Oh honey, you don't want me to do that lol. Suffice it to say, it took Gaga 10 years to break a Janet record with the "Born This Way" single, Katy Perry 21 years to tie a Janet record with her re-release of the Teenage Dream album (just to get that elusive 7th top 5 single), and Madonna 11 years to tie Janet's 5 consecutive Billboard #1 albums-accomplishment (nevermind the fact that Janet's last studio album also debuted at #1, and still didn't see as big a sales drop in week 2 as MDNA has). Couple that with the fact that everyone from Kelly Rowland, Rihanna and Britney to Chris Brown, Usher and Ciara are still paying homage to and/or jocking Janet's looks, dance moves and video treatments, and...well...let's just say that I'm inviting you to have several seats.

Academy Award Nominee Janet Jackson, recipient of more Billboard Awards than any other artist in history

p.s. This Day In Music History--today marks the 22nd anniversary of the day Janet got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

[Edited 4/20/12 15:36pm]

wait Katy Perry Tied Janet's seven top 5 record wow didn't know that

No, I think that with the re-release of the Teenage Dream album (an album that had 6 top 5 hits), she will tie Rhythm Nation's 7 top 5 singles. The Teenage Dream re-release has that new #1 song called "Part of Me", making it 7 top 5s between TD original and TD re-release. Although now that I think about it, technically, you could say that the TD re-release is a standalone album, and as such, it only has 1 #1 song. Either way, Katy had to do a re-release in order to get 7 top 5s. Guess her "people" weren't satisfied with her tieing MJs record, so they had to come for Janet's too lol. Anyway, Wikipedia still says RN is the only album to have: "seven commercial singles (that) all peaked within the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first and only album to achieve that feat," so that's what I'm going with lol. Katy, you can't have the record!!!!!!

"Get up off that grey line"

I think with Madonna it has more so to do with who SHE IS versus people wanting to see a good show even though her shows in the 90s were pretty entertaining, ( I wouldnt mine paying cheap change just to see her myself but her ticket prices are crazy and done equal the talent LOL she isnt my Queen so bump that shit lol).... but she would never sale out shows 50 back to back like someone I know so she doesnt have LIKE THAT but its pretty good she still sales, not that surprising. All her concerts have done well over the past decade. ...

I think what's most telling in this story is the fact that Janet's consecutive No. 1's all came earlier in her career, while Madonna's came later in hers.

[Edited 4/20/12 11:22am]

And most of Madonnas number ones arent even her classics

I was going to mention that.

I'm not hating at all, because I like them both. But those Madonna albums are DEFINITELY not all amongst her best. The fact that the last five reached number one has a lot to do with the current age of high digital and low phyiscal sales numbers. As well as the fact that 50,000 units will get you a number one debut these days, not the few hundred thousand it took in the early days of their careers.

But similiar to MJ, Janet had CLASSIC choregraphy. For example, she could NEVER do the RN routine a different way because its to cemented in pop culture. Madonna never had groundbreaking choregraphy that really reasonated with masses. That is why she is able to do new things with her dances.

Yea.. I exactly like Madonnas early material.. 80s and early 90s the best.. Her whole 00s material was straight bullshit. The only reasons whhy they went to number one is because one, she IS MADONNA and two all that you stated. Thats why number one albums and bullshit like that doesnt really mean anything if the music is shit..

I have and no their not incredibly biased its MY opinion wink I said her BEST WORKS are from the 80s and early 90s thats not saying all her other stuff is shit. Although I DO think her 00s material is shit.

I guess my opinons would be incredibly biased to a STAN... chile please sit down some where. My arguement is completely rational. Most of her number ones are not her classics or are even of quality material compared to other songs she has. The fact this album made number one doesnt mean a damn thing, maybe of course to her stans.

I'm not a stan, I just happen to dig Madonna.

Whatever, it doesnt really matter to me. I dont see what the issue is. I dig alot of Madonnas 90s material as well and find that to be her best especially early 80s and 90s. I also find the Girlie Show tour to be entertaining. So you can STOP coming at me sideways like Im hating on her or am here to bash when I exactly do like her although I do find her to be very overrated. I like her selectively.

I know hardcore Madonna fans that say that her best material is not her numbers ones which was the primary point I was agreeing with another poster. Obviously, I listen to enough Madonna to come to that conclusion if you think otherwise thats you! If you like ALL her songs then thats also you as well but dont sit up here and bash someone just because they dont worship the ground she walks on especially when they present a rational intelligent arguement unlike someone else here who makes judgements over music he has never even heard, dumbass (that was not directed towards u lol).
