Epic/CBS didn't want Jermaine to release "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" because they felt it would compete with the 'Victory' singles. This was just record company politics.Such a shame because "Tell Me..." would have went straight to Number One.I think it's stronger than anything on 'Victory'.

Hello SoulAlive. Long time, no see. Don't worry, I'm just passing through for a minute, but I have to correct this b.s.

The decision to not release the Jermaine duet had nothing to do with the record company. The boss of the record company at the time was Walter Yetnikoff and in his autobiography and subsequent interviews he's revealed that it was Michael himself who stopped that single being released.

Michael didn't want Jermaine to get the inevitable boost of a number one single. The record company merely acted as a proxy for Michael. This was a pattern of behaviour that persisted throughout MJ's life - fuck someone up, but get someone else to do it while you plead helplessness.

I wonder if that's why Jermaine started competing with MJ and got a big head, which ultimately led to Word To The Badd. Sorry but I don't believe that he didn't write it, he got called out for that shit on mjjcommunity!

And if Michael put a stop to it and has that pattern, I think this time he stopped it to prevent overexposure. He was already doing so many duets, and another one with a family member is overkill if you think about it, though it's a great song. I feel really ashamed admitting this though I know every MJ song and have a lot of singles including Jacksons ones, but I didn't know Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming until last year and felt like such a bad fan. I guess it was big on r&b and dance radio then. I did know Somebody's Watching Me for years though.

Yes, in Jermaine's interviews at the time he alluded to "a number of things" Michael had done to sabotage him, such as getting producers who Jermaine was scheduled to work with to cancel those sessions and come work with him instead.

It's quite likely Jermaine also found out what had really gone down with "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming". Of course Jermaine is deluded if he thinks any of that explains his lack of success relative to Mike but still, it's not very brotherly conduct.

Paranoia is clearly in the family genes lol I didn't see him trying to halt Janet though I've heard rumors about him worried he's competing with her and nothing more, nor her bitching about him working with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. And who didn't want to work with Babyface and Teddy Riley around that time? Jermaine got him first anyways with 2300 Jackson Street and should have shut up lol plus his catalogue is good, Don't Take It Personal is one of his best of that time and so underrated, too bad he was insecure.

I'm not sure what was the issue with the release of Jermaine & Michael's duet as I would have to research it. Although, I remember reading Wordd to the Badd was just being called out last year over at mjjc - And it was back in late 09/10 that I seen some members over there post about not knowing that Rockwell & MJ as well as "TMIND" was MJ on the songs. (not saying that has anything to do with you.) I just remember reading the threads there on the songs, and being somewhat surprized

I was 7 when Thriller came out so I remember those songs ( 'SWM' & TMIND') during the Thriller mania being played in the states on pop radio often.

Move Over, Tupac—Michael Jackson Hologram Could "Absolutely" Go On Tour With His Brothers

Today 10:27 AM PDT by Marc Malkin

If the late Tupac Shakur could put on a show, so could Michael Jackson.

Yes, a hologram of the King of Pop may be going on tour…

The late music legend's brothers Jermaine, Jackie, Tito and Marlon just announced that they are joining together for Unity Tour 2012, a 27-city jaunt that kicks off June 18 in Louisville.

It marks the first time they've toured together since the Victory Tour in 1984.

"I just wish Michael was here with us, but I'm sure his spirit will be in the house," Jackie exclusively told me this morning.

READ: One Direction's Harry Styles, 18, Asked Out Former Bachelorette Jillian Harris, 32?! Yup!

And he may be with them afterall. Jackie said a Michael hologram could very well be part of a bigger tour they're planning for next year after they release a new album with their recently reunited record label Motown.

"It could have Michael—absolutely," he said. "Wouldn't that be wonderful? As a matter of fact, we had that idea two years ago for Michael's Cirque du Soleil show."

The brothers are still working on the set list for Unity. "There are so many songs," Jackie said. "That's the hardest part because we want to include all the favorites and not leave anything out. We're going to sing some of Michael's stuff, too. We're going to honor him on the stage. He'd want us to do our thing to the best of our ability."

Now we want to hear from you. Do you want to see a hologram Michael Jackson performance? Let us know in the comments below.

The Cirque show has a moment like the Tupac one but not to the same extent - but there is a nod in this direction.

Whilst it's great for one moment - I think the reality of if you went to a show and the hole thing was a hologram MJ it would be WOW for a song then really sad and depressing for the rest of it. Just a reminder that he isn't there.

And let's not forget that there was rumour of a Hologram MJ for This Is It tour by the UK press.

I honestly think this will be 100 times better than watching an impersonator, and I also think this actually goes along with what MJ wished for when he was alive..he wanted to live forever. But if this were to happen I'd want them to do a actual "MJ concert" with the right kind of band arrangement, not a circus or a 5 second hologram appearance in Jacksons show type of thing...It'd be kinda eerie and emotional to see holographic MJ saying "I love u more!" to the fans though =(

As much as Michael clearly loved fame and courted the press, those lyrics just seem inherently hypocritical to me.

Then again that's nothing new - he bitched about the media for most of his career while at the same time doing everything in his power to get them to focus on him as much as humanly possible.

And what did he expect from...an interview. An interview is when they ask questions...and they'll usually be ABOUT you, if you're a pop artist. Especially one who went out of his way to be as controversial as possible.

Been an MJ fan all my life but there's a lot of things, like the above quote, that MJ would say and do that would send me into an extended eye-rolling session.

I agree with you but this particular song isn't about the press invading his space or another "leave me alone" song, it's about everybody people and people surrounding him. "If I wasn't Michael Jackson, would you treat me the same way you do the average joe"

Jermaine talked about what brought the song on: Michael was remodeling Hayvenhurst and decided to buy some llamas. He and Jermaine found a seller and went to meet up with the guy who was very rude and hostile towards them. He was asking why do they want them and how could they afford them. He wanted to see identification. When he looked at the IDs and started to put 2 and 2 together, he asked "Are you those Jackson boys?" and changed his attitude and was eager. Michael rebuffed him, told the guy he was an ass and had no interest in doing business. They got in the car and left.

While driving, Michael told Jermaine to take him to Tito's house. The three brothers went into Tito's home studio and came up with the song

I'd put it in the category as That's What You Get For Being Polite, Destiny, and Things I Do For You before the Leave Me Alone/Privacy/Scream/Why You Wanna Trip On Me ship IMO

Cool. This was doe in 75 right?

"Thriller" Co-Star Heads to Jury Trial with Michael Jackson's Estate

  • Photo: PRWeb / AL
    (PRWeb)

Since co-starring alongside Michael Jackson in the immensely popular "Thriller" video, Ola Ray has fought an uphill battle to collect royalties that she alleges have been unpaid. Despite heading to trial with Jackson's estate, Ray insists she maintains only love and respect for the late pop star. “Ms. Ray simply wants Jackson’s estate to honor the terms of her employment agreement so that she may move on with her life,” asserts Jose A. Trejo of Trejo Law Corporation, her entertainment attorney in the matter.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 19, 2012

After nearly 30 years of royalty struggles, Ola Ray, the woman who famously appeared alongside Michael Jackson in the immensely popular "Thriller" music video, finally heads to a jury trial with the Jackson estate on April 30, 2012 alleging breach of contract (Case No. SC102953).

Since co-starring alongside Michael Jackson in "Thriller," which many would call the most revered music video of all time, the former Playboy Playmate has fought an uphill battle to collect royalties that she claims have not been paid over the past decades. After finally going the distance with her entertainment lawyer, Ray's long ordeal is coming to a close.

Ray, 51, was just 23-years-old when she appeared alongside Jackson in "Thriller" and frightened children worldwide with her piercing scream. Since its release in 1983, the video has enjoyed countless airings and financial success that has far exceeded any video in music history. Its signature “zombie dance” has been emulated worldwide and the "Thiller jacket" that Jackson wore in the video is one of the most popular articles of clothing ever worn. The short film has even garnered federal recognition, having recently been inducted for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.

According to court documents, Ray’s original employment contract for "Thriller" allegedly entitles her to a specified percentage of the revenue derived from the video and related merchandise; however, even though the short film has reportedly made millions, Ray asserts the Jackson estate has not paid her regular royalties since the 1980s.

Despite her ongoing litigation battles with the Jackson estate, Ray claims she has never held any ill feelings towards the late pop star personally.

“I have always loved Michael Jackson and thank him for the opportunity of a lifetime to be part of such an iconic piece of music history,” states Ray. “Michael would always re-release ‘Thriller’ in different packages so that I would get my royalties. He really did his personal best to help me while he was alive. Unfortunately, the people handling his estate have not been acting according to his wishes since his death.”

Ray was a huge fan of Jackson even before landing the role in "Thriller." As the June 1980 Playboy Playmate, her centerfold listed the King of Pop as one of her favorite entertainers. Understandably, Ray was on cloud nine when she beat hundreds for the opportunity to star alongside her idol. She claims to have nothing but fond memories and admiration for MJ.

“Michael was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met,” recalls Ray. “We would run around the set and play like kids. When he passed away, I was devastated. I had lost a friend.”

In the digital age, primarily since Jackson’s passing in 2009, the pop star’s estate has allegedly profited greatly from the exploitation of "Thriller." For example, the video has been one of the best-selling music videos in iTunes history. Ray continues to be adamant that she has not received a cent from any revenue related to "Thriller" since 1999.

Trejo Law Corporation, a Beverly Hills law firm specializing in entertainment law, recently revealed its representation of Ola Ray and the interesting details of her case. “Ms. Ray simply wants Jackson’s estate to honor the terms of her employment agreement so that she may move on with her life,” asserts Jose A. Trejo, the entertainment attorney representing Ray in the current matter. “The estate cannot continue to exploit ‘Thriller’ and neglect to pay Ms. Ray the royalties to which she is contractually entitled.”

After decades of legal struggles with Jackson and his estate, Ray seems optimistic that the ordeal is nearing an end.

“I am very thankful that Michael cast me as his girlfriend in ‘Thriller’ and I cherish the memories. I just want what’s owed to me," insists Ray. "I am looking forward to having my day in court and putting this matter behind me very soon.”

Ola Ray currently resides in Sacramento, California with her 17-year-old daughter. Jose A. Trejo is an entertainment attorney at Trejo Law Corporation, an entertainment law firm located in Beverly Hills, California.
