As a vocalist, though, I think he's wildly considered a great singer.

He's my favorite vocalist, anyway. I particularly like his voice on the slower songs.. The Lady In My Life, I Just Can't Stop Loving You, For All Time, Break Of Dawn, Don't Walk Away, Whatever Happens, etc..

I think his dancing and music videos get most of the attention before his vocals. I think people know Michael had a great voice but its just not appreciated enough and we both of course know most people dont even know he wrote majority of his songs.

Out of curiosity, I looked up Rolling Stone magazine's greatest singers list. Michael is only #25.. I do feel that's a bit low, especially considering some of the people they ranked above him.

http://www.rollingstone.c...e-19691231

The guy who wrote about him on that list seemed to agree that he's underappreciated as an artist, though..

When somebody gets as big as he did, you lose sight of how avant-garde and revolutionary they are, but Michael Jackson pushed the boundaries of pop and R&B.

I was always found Michael his most attractive during the bad and deangerous eras. This picture just gives proof

To me personally the most attractive MJ era has always been Shake Ur Body Down (2 the ground) ~ Off the Wall era. Even before I became a fan I'd look at OTW era MJ pics and go all mushy.

Yeah people still believe Quincy Jones WROTE "Billie Jean". falloff

Some people dont understand that just because you dont play an instrument that does not mean you cannot compose music. Thats a major hang up for people, especially on this board. I think some prince fans feel uneasy by the fact that MJ didnt have to play 3000 instruments to come up with some pretty damn good songs. They just dont know how to comprehend it. There are many people who play instruments who arent blessed with the gift that MJ had. The voice is a instument and all physical instruments are made from sounds of the voice, so as far as im concerned, MJ was perfectly fine.

According to VH1, he's second only to The Beatles on their list of greatest artists.

I was talking about more of a "today in music" type underated.. everyone is being marketed as "the next michael jackson" "who will be the next King of pop" type things... its almost like comparing someone who teaches themsef to play marry had a little on piano to Mozart.... you know? i dont know if im making much since, lol im having trouble explaining..lol

I agree. Chris Brown, JT and Usher or whoever else is good, but MJ was more than just a pop star. Im not a Madonna Hater but I do not like it when people put them on the same level because they are not. But Madge is very good at what she does though. I also think people forget about the genius of MJ from'69-'79 because MJ alone during that period is even better than many of the Pop Stars today.

I personally don't think Michael is underrated as an artist or as a vocalist in general...before his death, definitely yes, but after he died definitely not...but I do agree a lot of people are not aware of how much of a hands-on artist he was when it comes to composing, writing, choreographing, coming up with concepts for music videos etc. Well yeah they talk about "who's the next MJ" all the time these days but I guess I'm too secure with MJ's talent and status(?) to be bothered by those comments...I mean they're only using that MJ comparison just because it's the biggest compliment they can come up with..nothing to take too seriously imo..

One thing I don't get is how "dancing" is underrated in general. A lot of people praise as if being a great instrument player is some kind of god-given talent but they look at dancing as something anyone can do...I just never understood this. Anyone can learn to play instrument just like anyone can take dance lessons...but being the best at it definitely takes practice and natural talent...I guess maybe because a lot of people think being able to play instruments equals the ability to compose music nuts

btw I know it's a bit off-topic but why isn't orger Bboy87 here anymore...I know it sounds incredibly selfish but where am I supposed to get the new Mj music updates now...don't tell me to fuck off to MJ forums plz, took me like a year to come up with this awesome username for Prince.org...I don't wanna go anywhere else now...

I agree. I rember Tina Landon (Janets old choreo for vids like IF, Scream, Runaway, Velvet Rope Tour etc) said she was amazed with how quicly MJ picked up choreo. She said that he made her do it again, again and again................................ and some more while watching her

then he got up and did it. She said that she had never seen someone learn choreo like that and she is Creme del a Creme is dance. Also so many professional dancers say that he is the reason they dance and usually they only site other professionals. As they say, when things a different/infimilar to people, instead of trying to figure it out... we dismiss it and call it wierd or try to lessen it because we cannot wrap our minds around the greatness of it

Not people I know or people on the web. People mainly site R&B singers like Luther, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Freddie Mecury or Stevie Wonder as good singers. Most people think he can only carry a tune. While I think those men are good singers, MJ is up there with them. Even on this site. Many Prince fans will say Prince is better, but people who knows about singing will disagree. People even have the nerve to say Jermaine is better which is not true.

No, he never did a video.

But he did play it live on every tour, which was better in my opinion than a video. I never liked the album version of that song.. it didn't have the energy that his live performances had.

Nah he didn't do a video. I'm guessing that he didn't think it needed one. Michael still somehow sold nearly 30 million with just three (iconic) videos. nod

Michael is criminally underrated as a vocalist.

It's very sad to me. Such a beautiful and unique voice, yet people mainly go on and on about his dancing and video's.

Michael is my fave male singer ever. It's true that when talking about great singers especially in the r&b community, people will say Luther, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, etc. but Michael hardly ever gets mentioned or when he does people say he was only a good singer when he was a little boy.

He is a wonderful singer who could do so much with his voice. Call him overrated if you want, but not in the vocal department. He never gets the credit he deserves when it comes to his voice if you ask me.

I honestly think "PYT" and "The Girl Is Mine" are his two worst singles, and two of my least favorite songs of his. I'm surprised to hear that the song gets a lot of airplay. I never thought it was very good or very successful (relative to his other singles), which is probably why there were no live performances of it.

Official Bad 25 logo http://www.mjjunderground...cial-logo/

I like it (not too crazy about the grey outline though).

One of the best things about Thriller 25 was the packaging, so the release of this logo holds great promise for that. I'm hoping for the same kind of packaging with the holographic cover and the booklet.

The worst thing about Thriller 25 though was the content. There was nothing really new (remastered 'For All Time' was nice, but I always thought that was from the Dangerous era). I didn't like the will.i.am remixes. The DVD was just Thriller videos we've all seen a hundred times. So I'm hoping for a lot more out of Bad 25.

From what I know of rumored/confirmed unreleased MJ songs is that most of them seem to come form the Bad sessions. In fact, I heard Bad was originally a double album with 30 songs. So I hope we get a bunch of unreleased material we've never heard before (so Fly Away, Streetwalker, Cheater etc. wont impress me).

I know the biggest fan fantasy is Wembley '88. That would be awesome. But any remastered Bad tour footage would be great. Even as a separate DVD. I think I'd be asking too much for a four-disc Bad 25 with the original album, a CD of unreleased material, a DVD of all the Bad videos and hopefully some cool extras, and a DVD of the Bad tour. Even though that's what we really want, let's be honest.

The wish list for Bad 25 is huge. I hope they deliver.

I agree with the whole thing. I'm not looking foward to any remixes on this one cause Will.I.Am one was just..... Yeah lol. Just not my cup of tea. I would really like Wembley or Yokohama but any would be fine and with some backstage footage too. I'm also hearing Pepsi is making MJ soda cans aswell.

I agree - the logo looks like something done in microsoft paint, lol. I understand it's trying to stay true to the graffiti style of the tag but something cooler could have been created.

I hope that recent anniversary releases by other artists including U2's stellar packaging for Achtung Baby, gives the company some food for thought in what to include. I think they will most likely trot out another "remastered" edition with a few extra songs.

I won't mind so much if they want to hold back on some unreleased stuff for another 'Michael' album, but then give us the evolution of the songs - give us demos, alternate takes, 12" remixes - in return.

As this is really the first time the Estate has overseen a re-release, I hope they ensure Sony do it right.

And finally as fans, I think we have to expect that while it *may* chart in the top 100 it won't be a number 1 smash. I'll be happy if it is, but to expect to it be is unrealistic. Rarely, if ever, do re-releases or anniversary editions chart well. Of course some fans will blame Sony or The Estate no matter what they release, but I think we need to be realistic here.

That all said, I am looking forward to seeing what comes out and would love a live DVD - especially from the second leg of the tour where more BAD tracks were included.
