That's pretty good considering she hadn't had a mainstream hit since 2000. But watch that figure double in the next 2 years. MJ made 150 Million last year and Elvis made 55 million. $$$$$

Not to be a downer, while the estate will make some coin, the majority of whats being made is going to go to the record label, and the writers of the songs she sung.

Babyface is going to make a fortune. Whitney should have did like Beyonce does and got writers credit even though she didn't really write it.

Yeah, I get what your saying. But it still will be a lot of money, Bobbi Kris should be set for life. Apparently Whitney was still getting 150k per month in royalties, etc.

Hopefully somebody is there to guide that girl. I don't know what her relationship was with Bobby, but he's a leech. She'll be broke if she's not careful.

Granted it this is from Perez's site but the logic makes sense.

"

We're sure she isn't happy about it, and would much rather Whitney be alive, but Dolly Parton is poised to earn a lot of money off of the post-humous sales of I Will Always Love You.

Unfortunately, not much of anything will go to Whitney's estate, as she didn't write any of her own songs.

Here's what insiders are saying:

"She was broke — her label gave her advances. And unlike Michael, you have to remember that Whitney didn't write any of those massive hits. They were songs that Clive Davis told her to sing and she did."

"On records, the typical mechanical royalty paid to the writer/publisher is about 8 cents per radio performance. That would all go to Dolly. Whitney is only the singer. She receives an advance from the record company based upon anticipated album sales. Figure that's around $2.00 per album. But all of the costs to record the album, promote the album, videos, etc. are all recouped from the artist's share."

"Whitney was living off of advances — loans from the record company — and had been [for] quite some time. Most likely the estate owes the record company a ton and future sales will be used to pay back that loan before any money goes to the estate. The songwriters, however, will make a bundle."

That's a major bummer, but completely understandable. We're sorry that she was in such financial distress, but that was the reality of it.

We're expecting to see major numbers from her older catalogue as well, so when those numbers are in we'll have a better idea of how much money is coming in due to her untimely passing!

We miss you, Whitney!"

Doesn't she earn film royalties from films she was producer of? I could've sworn she produced all of her films except The Bodyguard...

How much does a film producer receive whenever a film is played on TV or whatever?

Yeah this is interesting. It's a bummer she didn't write none of her biggest hits. confused By comparison, Bobby at least gets a check from co-writing "My Prerogative".

She said that during the time she and Whitney were singing onstage that she was sad that she couldn't sing as well as she could but still told her to "do whatever you want" with the song they were singing.

She also said when Piers Morgan mentioned about people doing the blame game that "you can blame anybody you want but it all goes back to you" or something like that.

She said that she felt it was real wrong (I think her words were "insanity") that Clive and 'em were carrying on with the party saying Whitney would have never "kept the party going". She said she was supposed to attend but upon hearing of Whitney's death she said she was so shook that she didn't do anything (she had arrived to L.A. from Miami).

She mentioned she, Whitney AND Bobby in a hotel in Miami getting high (I'm guessing this was in the early '90s).

She was all excited about Whitney doing the "Sparkle" film and recording the two songs for the soundtrack (I think).

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Chaka felt that Whitney being at the club the day before she died was not a real good decision considering she was indeed a recovering former addict.

Chaka was right Whitney had no business drinking. She shouldn't have been at the Beverly Hilton hotel that early before the Clive Davis party, which should have been cancelled with Whitney's body still in the hotel. Chaka seems fed up with the music industry. Her people should have never let her take a bath more than 15 minutes without checking on her.

I just read online their Daughter is in the hospital, but the thing they are reporting is one of Whitney's people gave her a pill to relax - but she mixed it with booze...

Question.

YOUR FUCKIN BOSS just died less then 24 hours ago... from pills & booze.

Can someone FEEL something anymore??? MUST we all be drugged to erase emotions????

Fuck:-o

Do any of "These People" just chill... stop pill pushing! Let the little girl feel the pain of loss... hiding it with this pill to sleep, this pill to wake up, this pill to relax you... etc. As soon as you wake up from your pill pushing yes men - your going to feel the pain anyways!! Hiding from it, doesnt help.

Hey let's kill the 18 year old daughter 10 hours after we just watched OUR BOSS kill herself for 20 years with every drug known to man.

I think worst then Pills .....

is

"Yes Men"!!!!

mad

That's the drug celebs have to get away from first, is STOP pushing your original friends and family away after you become famous... because the 2nd group is just a bunch of people who will look the other way and say YES to anything that comes out of your delusional mouth.

Hold up . . . .

Who are you to say Whitney had no business drinking?

How much did she drink?

It hasn't been established that any of those drinks were hers. She wasn't alone in the suite all afternoon.

Who are you to say she can't be in the bathroom more than 15 minutes alone? Why?

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Whitney's Death Will Earn Dolly Parton a Bundle in Royalties

Feb 14, 2012

Whitney Houston's death is a tragedy in pretty much every way, but the singer's demise may have a silver lining for Dolly Parton.

Wait, make that a gold lining.

As the author of one of Whitney Houston's biggest hits, "I Will Always Love You," Parton stands to rake in a fortune in royalties for the tune, which she released her own version of in 1974.

Predictably, Houston's death on Saturday has sparked a renewed interest in her music, and in particular "I Will Always Love You." As of this writing, the song "I Will Always Love You" sits comfortably atop the iTunes song chart; the Houston catalog has also seen a remarkable resurgence on the Amazon music chart.

As of 2009, the mechanical royalty rate that songwriters receive on recordings of their compositions is 9 1/2 cents per physical copy or permanent download -- a pittance when taken individually, but those pennies add up when sales are hot, as will surely be the case with Houston's music over the coming days and weeks.

Houston's recording of the song has been remarkably profitable for Parton. The soundtrack for Houston's film "The Bodyguard," which contained her version of the song, has sold a jaw-dropping 44 million copies worldwide, while the single has sold 4,591,000 copies as of 2009. The 2000 compilation album "Whitney: The Greatest Hits" -- which also contained the song -- has sold 10 million copies to date.

Interestingly, Parton originally wrote the song as a farewell for her partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, when the two of them were dissolving their business relationship.

Parton paid tribute to the deceased Houston on Saturday, saying in a statement, "“I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song, and I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, ‘Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed.’”

Whitney's final televised performance (with Kim Burrell):

Wow ... great post but sad in alot of ways ... there was no way whitney could make a come back ...her voice had gone... I hate what drugs do to a person so talented as her.....

I think Whitney knew the devil had taken her power (voice) and made her weak .... you could see her praying to get that back ... it must have been such a shock to her ...that she could not do what she loved doing .... the pressure of a comeback must have killed her as it did MJ...

So sad, both to weak and finanically tied to record labels that just want their money back!

New York – February 12, 2012 – Sony Music Entertainment today issued the following statement regarding Whitney Houston:

“Whitney Houston was an icon and a once-in-a-lifetime talent who inspired a generation of singers and brought joy to millions of fans around the world. She had a voice of unmatched beauty and power that changed music forever, and she leaves behind an indelible legacy of timeless songs that will never be forgotten. She also was an important member of the Sony Music family who spent her storied recording career with Arista Records. She will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences go out to her daughter and her entire family.”

Cashing in.... like they did with Michael Jackson... i feel sorry for any artist that does not learn to play the game and get out of their contracts as soon as they have made a bit of money to keep them until old age....

Mike and Whitney got all the "show" ...... but did not find out until later that they had sold their sole to the "business" ...

Sad...sad
