But that is all anyone will play

Whitney's an incredible singer, but I am still not over the damage inflicted by that tune. shake

I'm bothered by that too. Reminds me of you-know-who...

BEVERLY HILLS PD

Whitney Was NOT Murdered!!!

In case you were secretly wondering, NO ONE killed Whitney Houston ... this according to the police department currently investigating the singer's death.

A rep for the Beverly Hills Police Department -- the precinct that responded to Whitney's death scene at Beverly Hilton hotel Saturday -- just spoke at a news conference, claiming detectives are currently pursuing a death investigation ... NOT a homicide investigation.

The rep Lt. Mark Rosen adds, "This is a normal investigation for death of someone of [Whitney's] age."

According to Rosen, the preliminary investigation is nearly complete -- pending final coroner findings.

Why did she take all the food with her to the bathroom? If she wanted to eat after having a bath? I don't understand this at all. It sounds like she was totally drunk before she had a bath, so I guess she was drunk and lost control of the drugs/medicatation she took, and had a crisis in the bath.

If i wanna continue with my food after having a bath, I don't take them with me to the shower, if you know what i mean.. lol

I get the media leaning on "I Will Always Love You" — after all, it is her biggest hit — but her signature song will always be "Greatest Love of All" to me. That's how I'll always remember.

I will always love you is her worst hit, but it happened to be one cause of that shitty movie with Kevin Costner that got her introduced to the mainstream white folks everywhere, but essentially it is not her biggest hit.

They've played the living shit out of that song. I love Whitney, but that isn't my favorite from her. I like her 90s live performances the best..

It's a shame she never did an Unplugged album.

Greatest Love of All is certainly a huge one, and I MUCH prefer it to I Will Always Love You. For me it will be Saving All My Love, just because that is really where I took notice of her.

Uh Whitney was already a pop superstar BEFORE "I Will Always Love You". Blame people's short-minded selves for forgetting that Whitney did indeed RULE POP MUSIC in the '80s (alongside Michael and Madonna).

I would think Saving All My Love was the turning point for her career anyway. It, "How Will I Know" and "Greatest Love of All" helped to set her apart from the R&B vocalist that first emerged with "Hold Me" and "You Give Good Love".

Yes, she was getting R&B radio play with Hold Me and You Give Good Love, but those others were pop superstar hits.

And don't forget R&B was also playing "Thinking About You" and "Someone for Me" so Whitney definitely got ahead first on R&B. I think she appeared on Soul Train when "You Give Good Love" got a boost. At the time her debut album wasn't the massive hit it would be in 1986. But yeah the first album was a monster indeed. Whitney was already called something of a legend after 1991 following the Super Bowl in R&B circles.

this is why WHITNEY will always be THE VOICE.

this was track was originally written for Janet Jackson.

This was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, who record as Boy Meets Girl and had a hit in 1988 with "Waiting For A Star To Fall." George and Shannon were a romantic couple, and secured a record deal with A&M Records after writing a batch of songs together and playing the Seattle club scene. They spoke with us about this song:

George: "They asked us to write for Janet Jackson's next record, so Shannon and I went to work and came up with our song How Will I Know, which was sent to Janet Jackson's people. They passed on it because it wasn't right for her at the time - she was in the midst of doing her Control album.

Shannon: "It wasn't right for that, but then our publishing company played it for Gerry Griffith when he was in Los Angeles gathering material for the unknown Whitney Houston. He loved it, sent it to Clive (Davis), and Clive said, 'We must have it.' And we said, 'Whitney who? Clive who?'

George: "Shannon and I had our first record deal, so we were caught up in Boy Meets Girl land, and the idea of writing for other people, this is pre-Whitney Houston and pre- our understanding of songwriting for other people, so it was really a big deal when they wanted to hold onto this for Whitney Houston. Then we started checking into it and thought, well, this could be kind of a neat deal. Our good friends, brother team Alan and Preston Glass, called us where they were working with Narada Michael Walden. They were recording Whitney Houston on 'How Will I Know' and they said, 'Guys, you've got to hear this.' They played it over the phone, and I swear, her voice, hearing the first take of How Will I Know on the phone we knew we were on to something special, too."
This is a very innocent song where Houston sings about trying to decide if a boy she likes will ever like her back. It went well with her wholesome image early in her career.
Shannon sang the demo, which was done in a sweet, light, R&B style suited for what Janet Jackson was recording before her Control album. Narada Michael Walden, who has also produced for Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey and Lisa Fischer, went to work:

Shannon: "Narada added his very punchy track and he did some rearranging on it and got us involved in some writing on the song. So it really was far more powerful than the demo we did and it sounded gorgeous and fun."

George: "He had an idea for taking some of the music of the chorus and making a verse out of some of it, and as Shannon and I heard it, we thought that sounded like a cool idea, and Shannon jumped right in on the lyrics."
The backing vocals are by Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston.
Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I haven't been sleeping well these past few months and as a result, I rarely ever dream anymore.

BUT...last night I had the most vivid dream that I've had in years.

I was at a house/offices of Whitney's childhood church, and was led upstairs to the "attic" where she still lay dead on the floor. She was visibly pregnant. There was some intrigue as to her death since I was led to a closet where a bagful of papers had been overlooked by the police, as I was given a cryptic note with a message that she'd written right before her death (that I can't recall right now).

shake

ANYWAY...it was very vivid and I awoke this morning on edge.

Just thought I'd share.

I bet you were channeling...

shrug

It was weird man. I've never dreamnt about anyone like that before.

All I have to say is that should it happen that she was pregnant, I'll effin' faint

I've been a huge fan since the first time I heard her ("You Give Good Love") at age 7. "Saving All My Love for You" is definitely up there for me, but there's just something about her take on "Greatest Love of All," its message, and how absolutely beautiful she looks in that video. sigh

highfive Exactly! It says a lot about the performance that it was such a huge hit. Think about it: it was initially the b-side of "You Give Good Love" (a gold record #1 R&B and #3 Pop hit), then released as the final single a year after the album itself and it still managed to go to #1 and become the album's biggest single.

As an aside, while it was nice to see the album version restored on the recent reissue of the debut, I wish they had included the better-known single version as well.

shrug I liked The Bodyguard. It wasn't great by any stretch, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I didn't regret paying my, what, $3.00? It was worth it for the "Queen of the Night" scene alone.

Whitney Houston Death: Bobby Brown "Deeply Saddened," Mom Cissy Houston Calls It "Unimaginable Tragedy"

Whitney HoustonZumaPress.com

Tributes for the late Whitney Houston have continued to pour in after she was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room on the eve of the Grammys.

Bobby Brown said in a statement Sunday: "I am deeply saddened at the passing of my ex-wife, Whitney Houston. At this time, we ask for privacy, especially for my daughter, Bobbi Kristina. I appreciate all of the condolences that have been directed towards my family and I at this most difficult time."

Meanwhile, her mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston, issued the following: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends."

Also among those chiming in: her cousin Dionne Warwick and friends Oprah Winfrey and CeCe Winans...

Brown's written statement comes the morning after he performed with his New Edition bandmates Saturday, just hours after hearing the tragic news. During the show, he told the audience: "I will always love you, Whitney. The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage." Brown was married to Houston for 15 years before their 2007 divorce.

Warwick, to overwhelmed for words, simply tweeted a sad face emoticon.

Winfrey, who sat down on her talk show with Houston back in 2009 , also honored the singer via Twitter.

"To me Whitney was THE VOICE," the media mogul wrote Sunday. "We got to hear a part of God every time she sang. Heart is heavy, spirit grateful for the GIFT of her.

And that was just the beginning.

Houston's dear friend, Winans, who is also Bobbi Kristina's godmother, issued this statement to E! News:

"I have no words to express how I feel. Whitney was not just a friend but a sister and I am going to miss her voice, her humor but mostly her friendship. She was undoubtedly one of the greatest singers of all time but she was also a great person. Please keep her family in prayer and the best way to honor her is to be reminded that tomorrow is not promised to any of us so love God and love each other."

Kenny Lattimore, who hosted the Kelly Price pre-Grammy event where Ho...erformance, told E! News, "Whitney Houston, the singers' singer and voice that inspired the world. Many emulated, but there is only one Whitney! My prayers pour out to her family, friends, and loyal fans around the world."

Stars like Houston's Preacher's Wife and Waiting to Exhale costars Loretta Devine and Angela Bassett and duet partner Faith Evans ("Heartbreak Hotel") also paid tribute to the legendary performer.

Loretta Devine: "I am overwhelmed. I cannot wrap my mind around this. I missed the chance to see her at a party this past Thursday and when we spoke last she had just finished Sparkle and she told me how excited she was to start production on Waiting to Exhale 2 with Angela [Bassett], Lela [Rochon] and myself. My prayers go out to her family and I am so honored for the time I spent working with her on Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher's Wife and on Boston Public. I love you, Whitney, and I will miss your easy laugh."

Angela Basset: "I am so thankful to have been enveloped by the warmth of Whitney's great talents. They were undeniable and vast. Whatever her burdens, she has at last laid them down and picked up instead a crown. For truly, she was and will ever be for us, who were so captivated by her strengths—unparalleled."

Faith Evans: "Whitney was more than an inspiration to me. She was my friend. Someone who reached out to me to let me know how much she loved me from time to time. I always reminisce on our girl talks and laugh at the times she'd invite me to join her exotic trips that I couldn't afford. Lol! I will always adore that woman! My heart aches for her daughter and her loving family."
