Surprisingly, I am gonna go with Secret. It's one of my all time Madonna favourites, while Scream has never been a favourite MJ song of mine. The Scream video is better though.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

Secret by FAR.

Mj was good until Thriller. End of story. Madonna continued to grow as an artist. Mj is the proverbial man-child, and the epitome of stunted growth an development. Artistic and otherwise. I cannot listen to any of his post Thriller music. Just beneath me. Madonna, while not the epitome of artistic genius, kept on growing.

Is there really a correlation between your enjoyment of the music and an artist's personal growth? Because...reality does not reflect your statement in the least.

Though, I like both artists...I am cool with both songs. They are pretty good imo even though I don't listen to them as much.

I agree with much of what you said.Michael Jackson was an incredible artist and performer, but I honestly didn't hear alot of artistic growth in his post-Thriller work.It would have been really cool if he could have dropped the 'King Of Pop' nonsense and went in totally different directions, musicially.Ray Of Light was unlike anything Madonna had done previously.

"King of Pop" wasn't like his alter-ego. He didn't even call himself that.

I think MJ is VERY grown as a songwriter in the 90s, compared with 80s.

Stranger in Moscow, will you be there, Earth Song - among the best songs he created for his entire career.

History - a dark, aggressive, angry album. It is unlike any previous one.

I much prefer his work 90s. biggrin

Yeah this.

So, considering that, I just think that the whole 'he hasn't grown as an artist since Thriller' argument is kinda moot. HIStory and Thriller don't even sound anything alike imo. I also always thought that MJ's music always reflected the times save for HIStory.

I think that they both grew as artists. I never listen to any of their albums and ever thought to myself; "Wow...this sounds like the same shit on the other albums I just heard."

He never would have done Morphine, Is It Scary, Scream, Stranger in Moscow or Will You Be There during those two eras.

shrug When I think of songs like Scream, Stranger and Earth Song especially, I think of grandiose ideas that topple over themselves. He had such great melodies and big ideas, but I don't think the product ever turned out as great as the idea behind it.

I don't see why expressing an opinion on Michael Jackson upsets you so much, or why you constantly attack me.

Either way you'd better calm down.

It was absolutely NOT cute! eek

-------------------------------------

While I think that MJ as a whole is much better and more talented music artist....,in any case, music - a matter of taste, REALLY! wink

What's the big difference? (is a rhetorical question wink )
Michael a lot of his adult most famous hits (Don `t stop..., Billie Jean, Beat it, Dirty Diana, Smooth criminal, The way you make me feel, Earth song ... etc) wrote himself (without co-authors) , so many songs in the same style. Very much authorship.
Question: do you like his style? If not, I understand your position.

Madonna herself did not write her big hits, she always connects to the work of co-authors, so there is the work of several people, the songs are more varied.
Personally, I respect her first album "Madonna" more than others, because she really wrote the songs. This is artistic album, her creation.

The question is, what do you prefer? wink

All people are different, have different musical tastes.

I dont constantly attack you. YOU constantly say dumbass shit lol I have a right to express my opinion as well and thats all I did.. I dont know how in Gods name you expect for ANYBODY to take any of your music opinions seriously when you go on rants about how Rhinna is this or that and Beyonce music is great BUT got the fuckin audacity to say MICHAEL JACKSON did not show no growth as an artist AFTER Thriller?? Are you feeling okay buddy? Or have you lost your marbles... You constantly praise artists who make generic pop garbage but then say some wack ass shit that Michael Jackson did not grow as a artist... Well fuck if History or Dangerous is bland then what the hell makes any of Rhinna albums or Beyonce.. you show biasedness and lack to be open minded in your opinions. I dont care if you ever listen to Michael Jackson or even like him but I will not sit here and just allow you to say outlandish shit. Their are folks who are not even fans of MJ admit that Michael showed growth even if they thought his material wasnt as great as Off The Wall etc..

No comparison. "Secret" all day, everyday.

IMO, "Scream" is one of Michael's most unremarkable hits. It's contrived, loud/grating, overproduced and basically obnoxious. I can barely stand listening to it. I remember a radio DJ being interviewed about the song and him basically saying everyone at the station found it annoying, but gave it its obligatory spins because of the name-value, but very quickly they retired it from rotation.

I hate "Scream", it sounds too early-90s (even like a Dangerous leftover), too agressive, bitter, forced, messy...

"Chart wise" Scream peaked. But I like the music though and the fact that brother and sister were together on a track. But something about "Secret" is infectious to me. cool
