Vocally- Is R.Kelly today's Marvin Gaye?

Before some of you bark pedophile, child molestor or some other kind of BS! I would like to make this thread strictly about R.Kelly - musically not personally. lol I just started getting into him, like many of you'll I threw him under bus after the whole allegations. And I have to say he's brilliant! There's something hypnotic about his voice and I couldn't help but compare him to the late Marvin Gaye. He's very talented vocally which is always refreshing to hear.

*Sorry, I couldn't find a good R.Kelly acapella

Would you agree?

ill say this....

musically R KELLY IS/WAS A GENIUS.

he was well on the way to becoming MARVIN GAYE standards...and i even think, after he dies, people are going to put him up there.

but what is harming him ( ill keep it strictly musically) is that his music has gotten increasingly dumber. meaning he is trying to appeal to the young crowd...and that inself is a NO ( for many reasons...wanna guess the MAIN ONE? lol lol )

I'm saying...dude is like 40 something and musically i feel he regressed. he needs to grow up musically. he did it with STEP IN THE NAME OF LOVE he can do it again.

oyeah...that BIRTHDAY SEX remix is borderline creepy eek eek eek all things considering confused

but yes i will say that KELZ is our generations marvin gaye. his catalogue is classic.

-With the exception of "Vibe" his lyrics were always stupid. Marvin was a really good song writer. R Kelly is a fucking hack and if you think 20 years from now people will still be listening to his stuff like Marvin you need to put down your crack pipe.

As much as I hate to say this, the closest R. Kelly came to Marvin Gaye from a musical standpoint was his 1995 self-titled album, which is like the only thing I can tolerate fully from R. Kelly.

Other than that, no one got the balls to compare R. Kelly and Marvin Gaye. Give me a break!!!!!

Because Marvin was and still is a pioneer and freakin' genius! His legacy still resonates in music history. R. Kelly can't even touch that. R. Kelly can't even spell Marvin Gaye's name if he wanted to.

I really liked his ballads before the tape got leaked. I stopped being a fan but would still enjoy a song here and there like Hotel, Closet, Chocolate Factory, Ignition etc. Lately, I started listening to World's Greatest and I Wish again after so long and was very emotional during them.

He is a good writer and all..however his recent work has been some of his worst...I would also liek to see him do a full album with real musicians...he can do the Maxwell and D'Angelo type albums, but he just doesnt. He is making his music even more unmemorable witht he past 3 albums. I dont know what he is thinking.

Did you really ask me that question? R. Kelly's no genius at all. Anyone that considers him a genius, clearly just have one album by Marvin Gaye. Better yet, knows one song by him...

yep, the R. is a confusing man but, damn, he is a master at his game. That voice is insane.

I just hope he gets the right music to sing to soon. We need another chocolate factory/loveland vibed album.

Just imagine that voice with a live band doing soul and funk...

He's a musical genius! He writes, produces and arranges all of his music and plays all the instruments in them. Also he created rap opera lol Trapped in the Closet IS genius! I think the only reason why people would say he isn't one is because of the allegations and his thug persona. but if you strip all of that mess away and just look at what he has done musically it's plain to see he is one. I'm just asking what did Marvin Gaye pioneer? I have a few of Mr. Gaye's albums. I'm just asking a simple question....
