i'm gonna listen to the dangerous album tonight on my way into town.
not sure if i'll listen to it all the way through because it feels a
bit weird right now.

altho, all those clips they're showing on tv is reminding me again
just how many great songs he has. very impressive.

I'm not listening to anything. I just won't be able to bear it right now. But the one song that just keeps going over in my head is 'We've Got Blue Skies'. That song made me ache while he was alive so I can only imagine how it would make me feel if I listened to it now. Actually I'll put together the list of songs that touched me the most

Aww man every song I think of is affecting me right now so I don't think I'll go on but these are the first ones that come to mind

The entire Off the Wall and Thriller albums always bring a smile to my face. Hell everything from 1979-1991 was just incredible. I almost broke down on the subway listening to the radio on my walkman with this MJ mix they were playing. I'm going to finish listening to Off the Wall. I Can't Help It is the next song.

Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

Man, everything on "Thriller" was just out of this world. I'm not sure anyone ever did pop better than that album.

"We Are The World" was a great piece of music, too.

"Man in the Mirror" always resonated with me.

A lot of the early stuff, especially "ABC" and "Rockin' Robin".

"Guitar" on Leno is the greatest performance in the history of rock ' roll

When I got home yesterday, I immediately put on side one of 'Off The Wall' vinyl, and blasted it.

"Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough"
"Rock with You"
"Workin' Day and Night"
"Get on the Floor"

"Workin' Day and Night" was always the JAM.

Then I put on "PYT", "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'",and "Baby Be Mine" from 'Thriller', also on vinyl.

I danced my ass off.

Remember, I'm not known as a Michael fan, but these songs above I've always dug.

Plus, back in the '80s, my boy Rog was TOTALLY Michael, and I was totally Prince.

He dressed in Red and Black... me in Purple & Black.

He even looked a bit like Michael (Off The Wall/Thriller era), and had every dance move down. I looked a bit like Prince, and we used 2 battle at house parties...

He'd throw on 'Off The Wall' or 'Thriller', do his routine, and I'd jack the turntable, and throw on '1999', and sometimes 'Purple Rain', and do my thing.

THOSE were the days.

i have always liked 'man in the mirror', and 'i just can't stop loving you' in particular.

but there are just so many to choose from

For many non-HipHop Black musicians in their late 20's through the mid-30's there were 2 main people who influenced them when they were young: Prince (for his musicianship) and MJ (for his showmanship). The first song I ever wrote entitled "They Bother Me" was inspired by MJ's vocal style. It was recorded on one of those foot-long rectangular tape recorders that so many of us had back then,the ones with the big buttons and the handle on the front. I've got pictures of myself singing Billie Jean into a broom handle in the kitchen of the home I lived in until I was 7. I still have the Thriller and Off The Wall albums in my living room today, complete with the pencil outlines of MJ I did on the album jackets.

I'm sad today and not necessarily because he died. I'm sad that for many MJ was just a Black man that looked freakishly like a White woman. For many he is just an alleged pedophile. For others he's just that guy who had those videos on MTV. But for me he was an inspiration to a young kid who loved music, an adult who can pinpoint the moments in his life where his songs made an impact, and a wanna-be musician who never would have written his first song without him.

So you want a MJ playlist? I'll give you one.

Man in the Mirror is my absolute favorite, love the gospel style 2nd halve of the song and the lyrics , although a bit cliche, are very uplifting also.

Black and White is also a great song

Thriller - that entire album - love it. It was released when I was 12 or 13 and made me an instant fan. I was a fan of him first before I was a Prince fan. It brings back memories of being a young teen, house parties and innocence being slowly peeled away, lol.

Bad - Smooth Criminal and Man in The Mirror remind me of my junior/senior year in college. I was instrumental in helping to produce a documentary on college volunteerism and making an impact of the lives of underprivileged children that lived in the areas surrounding the college.

Dangerous - Most the of songs on this album remind me of one of the best times in my life when I was in my early twenties, recent college grad and loving life.

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough & Off The Wall - learning hip hop choreography (a few years ago) to these two tracks.

Those were the the first singles of MJ that we had when I was growing up. And I used to think how sad those songs were. But I loved them. Used to know them by heart. That and the Christmas songs-- Give Love on Christmas Day and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. We used to sing them when we go caroling in the neighborhood.

"Stranger in Moscow" is the ultimate MJ jam 4 me.....I love the isolation and the total loneliness of the song.In fact 2day I am trying 2 learn it on the guitar in honour of this entertainment legend.
It was always the 1st song I would play on the jubebox years ago when I got paid on a Thurs afternoon and went 2 the pub...Oh yes thats my memory of this beautiful song

Most of his musical output was pretty decent up to and including the new singles on the History disc. After that it became pretty poor considering he takes plenty of time with top producers and songwriters between albums and has no excuses not to emerge with quality product.

"Live" in concert he became an absolute joke, all pompous, masturbatory theatrics and lip synching. The O2 Arena residency would have been a total trainwreck.
