Printable version (Log in to 'subscribe' to this topic)I don't think he comes on here but DJ Dredd from the old Lovesexy DC parties made me love MJ again after attending a few of his Prince vs. MJ parties. Of course Prince always won - but MJ was a close second.

I have been remembering a track that I used to hear on the radio in L.A. all the time in 1987. It was a remix of the Way You Make Me Feel... I don't know if it was an edit of the 12-inch mix or what... but I've never heard it since and can't find it on the net... Does it exist or am I imagining things?

![]() Jagger ? Wasn't it Freddie ? It was originally intended for Freddie, but apparently their schedules only allowed time for a demo recording. So Jagger was asked to step into the breach. As for my memories of MJ's music.... Being in High School and the excitement of waiting for the Dangerous album to come out. Literally wearing out my Bad tape....

My fave songs were Beat it and Billie Jean, but the entire Thriller album brings me good memories. It was the first album I bought (I was 8 back then). The last album I listened to was ´Dangerous´. After that, I lost interest for his career, but Michael was a giant on stage. The kind of artist we all stop to watch when he is performing on TV, for example.

Bighead said: Sorry about the dose of reality, but to anyone else other than his hardcore fan base,Prince will be remembered for Purple rain and nothing else. Maybe his strange behavior. That's as close as he'll come to MJ. - Hmm. I disagree. I think Prince will start to be remembered when he dies. If Prince gets to live as long as Ray Charles, he will be receiving those Life Achievement Awards and several tributes. He is already receiving now. For me, the only difference between Prince and people like Dylan, Brown, Hendrix, etc, is that Prince arrived too late to the game. Like Eric Leeds said, popular music was already defined in 78. But in terms of pure talent and genius - when it comes to popular music - Prince is much more than Purple Rain, and influenced pop music, R&B a lot. [Edited 6/26/09 18:31pm] Peace

BTW, I was talking about music, not fame. Michael Jackson is like Elvis, or Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, etc. Huge pop icons and nobody comes close. Prince will be remembered by music lovers. Peace

My neighborhood has a few block parties during the summer and I guess one was planned for tonight as hundreds of folks were out and the dj was bumping. Given the news I guess, he was playing all MJ. We decided to hang out for a bit and ended up dancing up a sweat! Off the top of my head I know he played PYT, Wanna Be Startin Something, Rock with You, Dancing Machine, and Baby Be Mine. People clapped and cheered at the start and end of almost all of the songs. It was a nice and Id say a fitting celebration.

I've played it a few times today. I liked Michael too. I played "you are not alone" and "Enjoy Urself." I wonder if his funeral is going to be private, if not, can you imagine how many people are going to be in attendance? I am wondering if the funeral is going to be in Gary, IN. Billy Jean and Wanna be startin something are my favorite songs MJ. [Edited 6/26/09 20:47pm] [Edited 6/26/09 20:49pm]

This makes it more tragic to me...
Michael Jackson spent his final night alive in his favorite spot on Earth: the stage.
At Staples Center Wednesday night, the performer did a full run-through of his planned comeback concert. He and his company -- dancers, musicians, singers, aerial performers, choreographers and costumers -- planned to fly to England early next week for final dress rehearsals at London's O2 Arena, the site of the pop superstar's 50-night sold-out run. "He was dancing, training, working every day with our choreographer Travis [Payne]," Ortega said. "Michael has always been slight. That was his fighting weight. He was getting rest time, coming in and working with the band, guiding the singers, working on orchestrations. He was enthusiastically involved in every creative aspect of this production." http://www.latimes.com/en...9249.story

Always been a MJ fan...weve lost a legend. I'm kind of partial to his later music...stranger in moscow....Scream....and my all time FAV is EARTH SONG. Watch that video now and try not to get emotional...it will surely show you what we actually lost....damn this sucks.

I've got to say I am rather disappointed how people are not putting Michael Jackson's career in the proper context. I have to say, I am a huge Prince fan and I think that he is a musical genius. In fact, I am a bigger Prince fan than a M.J. fan.

Here is my playlist of memories: Push me Away Blame it on the Boogie Get on the Floor... No doubt. Ever since I heard the news, my mind has been stuck on the 'Jacksons' songs/albums. As much as I loved seeing him deliver solo, Off the Wall is just supreme, pinnacle R&B. Bad is only underrated because of what it followed. Invincible was really really good, but sadly lost under the weight....but it's the work with his brothers that impacted me the most. I took my entire collection to work today and listened all day long. These are additions from my book. That's What You Get for Being Polite (just sub in MJ for "Jack". period) Good Times Dreamer Everybody Time Waits For No One and Wait (Jackie's underrated cut...but when Mike comes in near the end in background, that song is the highlight of Victory to me) But it's the inside jacket photos from Destiny and The Jacksons that stick with me. As much as he needed to break free to let his artistry out, I think he was healthiest with his brothers beside and behind him. peace in sadness [Edited 6/26/09 18:16pm] So true. There was something so beautiful about Michael when he was with his brothers. Infact it is the pictures of when he was with his brothers that are tearing me up. I am glad he is back where he belongs now, with his family, for one last time. And When the groove is dead and gone, you know that love survives and we can rock forever. R.I.P Michael.
