As much as i love Jody,i'm just not feeling her oh they done me so
wrong stories. The music business is shady, always has been, always will
be. Howard and Jeff seemed to have good vibes about what they accomplished
and both acknowledged the ups and downs, the group's turmoil but both
seem to have moved on. Jody still seems to hang on to some bad feelings.
It's been 20 something years move on. I'm not expecting any type of reunion
out of this and Howard respectfully stated he wouldn't want to do it without
the other two members but if Howie and Jeff ever got that itch to do it
and Jody trips hell just get another female voice and do some select shows
and call it a day
.

Didn't Ms. Ross try to do that? Did it work? lol

For one, women don't forget shit. neutral It appears Ms. Watley has moved on and has chosen not to rehash old hurts or insults, so be it. I'm sure all are willing to admit they did somethings and said somethings they later regretted. Lets hope they've all matured enough were they've apologized for their parts in the drama. Having said that.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Ms. Watley replacement (Delisa Davis) in Shalamar ran into the same hot mess with Mr. Hewitt and it's also newest member Mr. Free. I think it's called misogyny. The funny thing if Mr. Hewitt or Mr. Daniel's had ever said they were being dogged by racist white record executive, every Brotha on the org would have been up in arms, had something to say, and would have concurred because they said so. I wonder if they would have been asked to forgive and forget mistreatment? Double Standard. I'm just sayin... confused

Same bullshit, different day, basically.

So far, I've read that Jody was:

Arrogant
Grudge holder
Bitter
Drama queen
Petty
Jealous

Meanwhile, nobody said a DAMN thing about how much of assholes Mr.Howard or Suge Knight's uncle were.

Excuse my bloody french, but some of these people need to get off Jody's clit and start looking at the story a lil' more objectively.

I didn't like that little gleam in Howard's eye when he said he hit on Jody. I bet he hit on her more than a few times and I bet it wasn't in the nicest of ways.

OK? Good point(s) Please, lease thrown that into the conversation as well.

I'm not sure what Ms. Watley was are wasn't personality wise but to listen and/or read what Dina Washington, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Lena Horn or any number of black women in the music business past or present say, don't have an "attitude" and watch your butt get handed back to you... what's left of it. They dogged Watley out and it was only towards the end the suits at Solar realized they'd made a mistake. Oops. She did what she was suppose to do, quit and started another career.

Perhaps Jody has a few bad feelings, but I think if people tried to pressure me to have an abortion for their needs...I might be a touch pissed too, even many years after the fact. She was asked about HER experiences and gave them. Those dudes clearly had issues w/ women (Daniel anyone? Hewett "hitting on her"?) so no harm, no foul. I'm not so sure that not wanting to go down memory lane (ie reuniting) is such a bad thing anyway. People have the records and the vids are on YT....so you can get your fix of them young and pretty.

Howard hit her? eek

And people are STILL pulling the broken "Get over it" record outta their asses? disbelief It sounds to me like a "shut the fuck up and be glad you even have a career to begin with" sentiment.

*sigh!*

Well anyway, I already said my peace about this woman. I admire her for re-inventing her career,,,,,and I think longevity that she enjoys now is pretty well-deserved. It just proves that she got a head between those shoulders, and she used it well.

As for lack of Solar royalty checks, well thats why she got her hands full on interpreneurism,,,so, I think Ms.thing won't be hitting the streets anytime soon.

So many unanswered questions and half-truths. Thanks TV-One for half-doing a job....again.

I see it was nominated for a best R&B Grammy in 1984, but I Feel For You won.

Not only that, "Dacing in The Sheets" is from the Footloose soundtrack. "Don't Get Stopped in Beverly Hills" was from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. They got that wrong too.

Sure did. I forgot about that.

I looked on the Grammy site, the soundtrack won a Grammy, but their song didn't. The site lists Howard as a Grammy winner along with all of the other songwriters for that soundtrack.

Thanks for posting this. I was always a Shalamar fan, but lawd I had no idea all that drama was going on behind the scenes. Everytime you saw them perform, they always seemed to be content, but I have to say, I always liked Jeff, Jody and Howard as a group.

I know Jody has worked with the group 4hero in the past and did some tracks with them that aren't too bad. Kind of sad knowing a group that was so popular back then and had so many fans, had all that drama going on behind the scenes.

Jody was married to Andre Cymone three years into the marriage and he STILL wanted to keep it a secret. Jody said it was to protect her as a rising star. That is bullshit he was a dog and cheated like hell on her. He used to be a bass player with Prince and had a groupie fan bass. They have two children Lauren a daughter and a son Arie. They were married 10 years and divorced around the end of 1995. That is when she came out with the song, "Looking for a new love". A lot of people didn't even know Jody Watley was married!

I don't blame Jody for not working with them on a reunion. She said if you only knew how bad it was behind the scene's people would stop asking for a reunion. Howard was an asshole, and he was probably making passes and crossing the line with Jody. She got exploited bigtime. She said Shalamar wasn't really what she wanted anyway. The solo thing was what she always wanted to do.

When Jody's career blew up, Howard didn't even call her to congratulate her. Jody's not the only one with ill feelings.

It was definitely 1987 when her solo debut came out.

I always thought her daughter was by Andre.

Your facts are not correct about Jody and her divorce. According to this interview: http://urbanbridgez.com/u...nt-page-1/ , Jody was going through a divorce when she was recording "Intimacy". That would mean that she was going through a divorce in 92 or 93. "Intimacy" was released in 93.

Quote from interview "All my songs are hard, I’ve written most of them, so I feel bad for picking one out (laughs). It’s like I love you all, I really, really do (laughs). They all say something, like on my record “Intimacy” and I was going through my divorce "

"Lookin' for a New Love" came out in '86. I think Jody married Andre that same year.

According to what I've found online, they got married in 91.

Looking for a new Love came out in 87.

Ooh I thought LFANL was out in late '86, I guess you can say '87, lol. I read 1989 when they married but maybe that was a typo, I forgot myself.
