I bought that CD last year. It's called 'Together We Are One' and it consists of previously unreleased songs by the O'Jays, many of them from the 70s.This could have been an interesting release (their "Crystal Ball",lol),but unfortunately,Gamble and Huff saw fit to "update" the songs to make them sound modern, like today's R&B.Still,it's a must-have CD if you love the O'Jays. Some of the songs are pretty good.

In the early 80s,things were so bad at Gamble and Huff's label that they stopped releasing "new" O'Jays material. They simply gathered up old songs that were lying in the vaults (throwaway tracks)and fooled the public into believing that they were buying new O'Jays albums.Alot of people don't know this, but Patti Labelle's 1983 album 'I'm In Love Again'(which includes the hits "If Only You Knew" and "Love,Need and Want You") was actually recorded in 1979.It had been lying in the vaults for almost four years! I can't wait to read the book "House On Fire:The Rise and Fall of Philly Soul" to get the real story.

btw,the O'Jays are back with a brand new CD called 'Imagination'.I ordered it a few days ago.

This is so funny because when I saw the advertisement on VH1 I was wondering why the hell is Justin introducing the O-jays? It just made no sense to me. Any musical historian over 30 can see that. cool

I've said it before and I'll say it again, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is someone's idea of a joke. The museum, the committee that selects who's in and just everything. The Justin thing is par for the course.

I didn't see it that year, so I didn't know about that either. omfg It doesn't get any worse than that. Lil Kim shouldn't be inducting anybody, imo. Outkast,Alicia, and Justin are more credible than her as an artist. (Justin credible...lol I'm so corny)

Who really gives a fuck about this? The O'Jays aren't U-2 so nobody gives two pumps and a stroke anyway, right? They will probably do the O'Jays like they did the Dells last year and pretty much every other R&B group that gets inducted: Talk over their performances or cut them off all together. I guarantee Justin's speech will last longer than theirs and their performance, too. As long as that fucker didn't try to perform an O'Jays cut.

nod X'actly!! There are legions of artists who should've been considered before Mr. Timberlake...I think it shows how little most people care about real R&B....

....would Y'all have let Kenny G induct Prince?

...
[Edited 3/16/05 8:14am]

He probably would have had a better speech than OutKast, smile, but the main idea here is right. Justin Timberlake did not have the gravitas to induct the Ojays, but the Hall always wants to link a hot, happening, modern artist to a legendary inductee. Sometimes they get it right, such as when you have a legend, Prince, induct another legend, George Clinton. Bruce Springsteen and U2. Alicea Keys, a future legend, and Prince.

But sometimes the HOF falls down. They have an artist who has no affiliation with the inductee, someone who does not do the same kind of music, has not paid the same kind of dues and who seemingly has little appreciation of who they are actually talking about.

In this case, it would be great if Justin's fans got hip to who the real singers and legends of soul-singing are. For every Justin Timberlake fan, there should be a hundred Al Green fans; but these artists don't get the airplay they deserve. Teena Marie is almost forgotten by the general public while Madonna still generates press for mediocre acting and questionable "singing".

nod Exactly. I am glad you brought this up. Teena has great vocals and paid alot of dues compared to that to that lip singing old hack Madonnna.

There's something wrong with this whole situation.Of all the performer out now, why Justin Timberfake? Alicia Keys, sure, John Legend, sure, Usher, maybe, hell Jamie Foxx would have been a better choice for some strange reason. Patti LaBelle would be an incredible presenter.

But the obvious choice should have been Gerald LeVert.Gerald LeVert himself should be protesting, fighting the producers, so he can honor his father. Him and Sean, and the other guy.

Thanks, Hot! thumbs up!

Brotha James is right. Justin is nothing but a gimmick and in no way possesses staying power.

JUSTIN DISSED & KISSED

Soul superstar James Brown rode Justin Timberlake pretty hard during a pre-Grammy rehearsal for their duet performance of "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag." A source says Justin had trouble with the song, and "Brown kept telling him that if he wanted to last in the music business, he had to work harder and perfect his craft." At least Cameron Diaz was on his side -- she was spied making out with him during a break backstage.

I wrote to that controversial fake-ass Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Committee protesting about that Timberfaker loser being picked to induct the O'Jays 2 weeks ago!!! I did'nt receive a response. I find it racist, offensive and blasphemous to say the least!! You wouldn't see in a million years 50 cents inducting Alabama in any ceremony!!! That Timberfaker tosses his white ass in Black ceremonies where it's not wanted!! Wake up white boy!!! Your wannabee Black card has been cancelled and revoked!!!

Little bitter are we?

But, seriously, the O'Jays requested that Eddie Levert induct them. The RRHOF said no. The Hall picks who will induct the people being honored. Eddie Levert guest hosted a local radio show and told how the whole thing went down last week. Was it a bad pick? Yes. But it's all about ratings. That being said I will say that Justin does know his R&B history. The Hall chose Justin. Justin didn't demand to induct them. Sure he could have declined but that would have made him look like he was too good to induct The O'Jays.

As far as the superbowl wardrobe malfunction thing goes. There is no reason why he should have to take the hit for Janet's bad decision to do that type of stunt. And it was her decision to wear what she wore and do that tacky stunt. She's been in the business for a hell of a lot longer than him and old enough to know better. The crap was planned otherwise she wouldn't have conveniently had those nipple coverings on. Justin inadvertently admitted as much when he came off stage and blurted something to the effect of "everything went as planned." I will bet dollars to donuts he was then asked to lie and say it was a mistake when the shit hit the fan because MTV trying to cover their ass. And let's be real Justin needs MTV. MTV doesn't need Justin.
