i.o.w.:

WB did not even try or rather: did not bother to go near this level of product.

This means that the PR remaster was either a rush job (don't think so) or WB do think that the Prince market does not warrant an investment like one has done for the Beatles record. (dunno how much it would move the break-even point)

If it's the latter case then this is a serious indication for product to come to us in the future; both the amount and the way stuff us delivered could be less than optimal to put it nicely.

That is what the end of the road or the trip towards that end might look like.

Maybe, but not necessarily. After all, this isn't the first "deluxe" reissue of Sgt. Pepper to have been released...

I would not pay 50p for Sgt pepper. What a boring release same songs over and over by a much overated group. If I was a fan it looks boring tracklist same song 10x. Even with all the stuff missing the purple rain release looks miles better than that .

I read a review on amazon (one star) that said something like how all the cds had the same songs on them... lol

well i have to agree with master here (not that the beatles are overrated, they can't be)
that the tracklist looks boring. all those different takes of a few tracks. i don't think i would
be very excited for a special edition with 7 takes of let's go crazy and another 5 different
takes on 'take me with you' etc. perhaps once the entire vault has been exhausted but the
thing with prince is that we know he has hundreds and hundreds of songs. we could have
both; twenty different takes of 'baby i'm a star' AND twenty unheard studio 'things' from
the period. but JUST different takes on songs don't interest me much either. one or two, if
they are very different, would be great, but not a mono, a stereo, a fade in, a fade out, a
few seconds of extra ad libs, another bit of percussion etc etc. no thanks.

I do not want take after take of slightly altered song. Just milking it. If that is what you want it is your choice but I would be bored. I want different song or ifsame song again it as to be radically different but don't want it loads of times like that.

Maybe, but not necessarily. After all, this isn't the first "deluxe" reissue of Sgt. Pepper to have been released...

But it is. Previously there have been other remasters (mono and stereo)--and those have been part of larger full catalog sets--but this is the first expanded Sgt. Pepper (or any of the albums--although there was the Let It Be... Naked, which amounted to an alternative version of Let It Be). Beatles fans have bought the same album several times, perhaps--but this is the first deluxe version they've received.

As to whether it's worth it--although we've been waiting for Purple Rain outtakes, the vast majority of the world has not. I'm not sure whether that many people are waiting for Beatles stuff either, but those who are have shown that they'll buy releases. Prince fans haven't, and couldn't be counted on to support the living artist. The fiftieth anniversary Pepper was a pretty safe bet (remember there are different versions, not just the full set). Now, even as a Beatle fan, I can't say that the tracks on the Pepper release thrill me--they are just alternate takes, no new songs, and I've already heard so many alternate takes from these sessions (and I don't think any of these were ones I hadn't heard from bootlegs). The Purple Rain gives me actual unreleased songs, so that's nice--even with my hearing boots, I'm getting something new. Yay!

Yes wanted the extended beautiful ones etc . Extended computer blue. Have you seen that beatles thing about 10 x of each track very slight difference in sound just looks way to boring. Prince as enough different songs. I would not put more that 2-3 version of same song on a set just put best ones or radically different ones on there and then add different songs. My judgement is good.

The nursery rhyme stuff came mostly from McCartney. But you can't deny there was a lot of other stuff that was not nearly anything close the nursery rhyme and more acerbic as well as great. As well as inspirational as well as innovative.

And let's not pretend that prince does not have his share of nursery rhyme bullshit such as raspberry beret, wedding feast, yada yada yada calm. I mean the whole planet earth CD is nothing but a nursery rhyme so to speak

Don't act like they haven't done other remasters or special sets with other music or even this one in the past either so miss me with that only took them 50 years for this. Look how long it took for the first remaster anything from Prince camp. You're not very good at this.

Clearly I'm not talking about the difference between one syllable or not. Of course that would be ridiculous and I don't account for that part of the remaster set. But let's not pretend that some of you jokers here or not wistful and longing for even a different wording or whatever on any other Prince music. Some here have proven as fanatical about that shit. Oh for crying out loud, these are early takes, sometimes significantly different from the released versions, including studio banter. You're hearing them create a massively important record. And these are only selections. I think fans already have boots with far more on them.

Hell, this kinda thing doesn't even exist for Prince, unless you look at rehearsals.

.

Or look at this Stooges box set.

but not a mono, a stereo, a fade in, a fade out, a
few seconds of extra ad libs, another bit of percussion etc etc. no thanks.

.

What is it with Prince fans expressing opinions about stuff they know nothing about? The reason there's a mono and a stereo is because SPLHCB was only "approved" by the Beatles as a mono mix; the original stereo mix was done without their involvement and differs significantly (WRT balance between instruments etc).

.

Also, SPLHCB was recorded under primitive circumstances, with four track recorders. The differences between takes are not just details, they're actually different takes.

Goes the same way, don't champion them if someone doesn't like them, you like the beatles great someone doesn't that's fine. Don't need to convince someone that they are the end all be all of music.

here we go again with the 'for cryin' out loud' drama lol

i know all that, you've schooled me before bart, in more detail even. but guess what, i still don't
care. i've got all those beatles records, remastered and not, mono, stereo. and i don't really care
despite loving their albums and listening to them a lot.

the only alternate take i really listen to a lot is the one of 'tomorrow never knows' from the
anthology set. the rest i could take or leave and i'd rather listen to the original album.

i love expanded releases, i love outtakes or rare tracks from a certain era being included and
i can dig the occasional significantly different take of a track being included. but i hardly ever
listen to stuff like that, beyond actual 'new' songs.

i'm simply not that anal. smile

so would i care for 10 different takes of a prince song. no i would not. who's got time for that?
i guess a lot of people, and that's fine. but beyond picking the best computer blue extended
version (the one with the hallway speech for example) what use are all the other ones we've
got now? do you listen to all of them? if so, good for you. i'm glad you do.

i wish you would do so even more, so that you'd have a bit less time to police me and others

everything always leaks before release date. it happens when the boxes of CD's arrives at the retail stores which is usually the weekend before. expect a huge dump of all the CD's on the Internet
