Lovejunky and Fly, I would also put myself in #6. Prince's spirituality, kindness, love of God, and his wholesome living resonated with me. I wish he had eaten lots of cherries to ease his pain. I shared this one another platform. Prevention Magazine which is read by MDs published that 10 cherries equals one Ibuprofen tablet. Prevention Magazine If only P had known.

bibrose, that is really good information about cherries. I have heard previously about their nutritional value, but I had no idea that they act as pain relievers. I am going to have to read up on them. They are one of my favorite fruits, but they tend to be very expensive, especially organic ones. Of course, money was no object for our Prince. BTW: I also consider myself a member of group #6. Thanks so much for the information. heart

Fly, the frustrating thing is that most MDs use homeopathic solutions but the FDA requires them to prescribe chemical solutions to their patients. I learned a lot about Natural Medicine from my cousin who is an MD. He had me subscribe to several NM websites. I tell people who are on pain medication about cherries. I have my fill when they are in season. Otherwise, cherry juice and dried cherries also work. It is a shame that P had to suffer so much when the cherries could have taken some of the edge of his pain and helped his sleep as well. The pain medication could also have had a negative effect on his mood which can negatively affect his interaction with people. It is amazing how he did not let it show on stage. He seemed to always be in his elements. The adrenaline from his performance most likely created a euphoria that helped ease his pain for a while. One of the things that P said is that we have to watch out for each other and not take credit. Sharing good information is one way to do that.

Just the fact that HE was a creative yet somehow managed for the most part to manage his own business interests, took responsbility for supporting many people financially.

I read an article somewhere that at one Point Paisley Park had an overhead of 2.5 Million a MONTH and employed over 120 people....and all of that was on his back!!!!!!

Most people would be super stressed about that, and would turn to Drugs or Alchohol , but what did Prince do..He turned to GOD, He THanked GOD, he depended on GOD and he worked Steadily and Consistantly to help GOds hand..

Cool information about Cherries..

THIS hit me deep in my soul lovejunky. yes I love his music and of course I love his look and such and such BUT what will make me adore him 4ever is his spirituality. there is so much wisdom, over all faith and pure love in every sentence he spoke, in every decision he made. don't know where 2 start 2 mention it. could listen 2 him 4ever and he is still inspiration 2 me. every single day. and will be until the end of time. and it makes me so sad sometimes 2 see how poorly infused his so called fan community is with his love and faith ... heart

Yes -- Lovejunky -- I read about the Paisley Park monthly overhead. I am also amazed that he could keep his cool with that kind of an operating budget. Fortunately, unlike MJ, he enjoyed touring so he was able to cover his expenses. I really feel that P's work need to be discussed in the context of different time segments because he evolved so much as a person - both spiritually and musically; although he most popular work is from his early years.

I completely get why both he and MJ were unable to sleep because of the new music that they both said constantly streamed through their brain. This is what we all know as brainwaves but it was far more intense for them. It also explains why he had to withdraw from interaction with people so he could record the music; otherwise, he would lose it. His musicians and sound engineers such as Susan Rogers understood his creative process and gave him space.

Susan Rogers, who now has a PhD in Psychology, and has studied how the human brain processes music said that the auditory nerve development of musical genuises like Prince and MJ differs from the average person. They are able to hear sounds to a level of clarity that Susan with all her sound engineering training said she could not achieve.

Prince's awareness of the source of his creative spirit started quite early in his career. I am glad that he was able to nurture and enhance his talent. That is why he seemed so ethereal to us -- like he was not of this world. However, he was a man with human failings just like the rest of us. He had the awareness and discernment to seek knowledge to help him to cope with the pressures of this world, and grow spiritually. It does not mean that he did not falter on occasion.

He accomplished a lot and may not have completed everything he wanted to do; however, he probably packed the work of three lifetimes into his 57 years. Whether we like it or not the people he choose to work with are part of his history and legacy. Their creative spirits also deserve to be given the same chance to develop and grow. We should not be too hard on his associates because there is a very thin line between success and failure in the music industry. It is tough enough making it in the industry without his associates dealing with the backlash from his fans for merely daring to have been in his orbit.

If we are not interested in supporting their work, at least let's not leave them tarnished, tarred, bruised and damaged. Prince's kind spirit would not have supported that.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It helps to hear various perspectives.

Yes! This!! True Spirituality is something that is fairly unpopular because it demands so much pride deflation. That means putting aside what we want and our need to be right and how others see us...all of it. And in True Spirituality, romance has no Power. In our very codependent society it is very hard to change those beliefs. But with time, Prince dug deeper and found that, I believe. His seeking paid off. I also believe he had some unhealed wounds about loss and abandonment as many of us do, so when people would leave he would pursue. Jill Jones explained this very well. I believe Andy was, as was said here by others, very ambitious - and young - and hence was not interested in a relationship yet. As all the way back to Vanity, Prince responded in the way he always had. I was listening to a podcast yesterday from early this year where the interviewer finally had to ask Andy to discuss her music rather than her affiliation with Prince. Maybe that's why Kirk sat Prince down and suggested Prince was being used. Prince didn't care because he was in an obsession due to feeling the triggers of past abandonments. Hope this helps the picture come together a little bit more.

anangellooksdown -- Andy Allo is still very young and inexperienced. At her age, a serious relationship and marriage are not the first priority for her. When she first left P, she had interviews in which she did not mention him. She actually said she grew up listening to MJ, Fleetwood Mac and other musicians. I am sure she did not expect her mentorship/employer relationship with P to blossom into an emotional attachment that would require her to make a life changing decision about the direction of her career. He was at a stage where he needed to settle down with a wife and family. She was a good choice for bearing kids because she is young and healthy. However, she also would have had to give up her career to some extent, if she married him. I am sure she deeply loved him as she has said. I read that his performance of Bill Withers's "Use Me" at the Toronto Concert on March 25, 2016, was quite emotional. In the end, they were star-crossed lovers that were not meant to be. It is sad but it is important for the world to know that he was not a wierd and lonely person who was incapable of loving anyone but his music.

Excellent analysis, Love! Prince took care of business!! As I read somewhere once, he paid a LOT of mortgages around Minneapolis.

.

I agree that bibrose's categories would make an excellent thread. It would probably be very well received.

What a lovely note, bibrose. I admired his fearlessness regarding his expressing and showing his faith. I would have loved to have read in his own words his spiritual journey and wish I, too could have the faith that he did. It seemed like he had a very strong connection with a Higher Power, prayed without ceasing and kept it simple. Perhaps he did "KNOW" that he had done all he had been sent here to do. Peace and Happy New Year

Hi, bibrose. I agree that Andy is young, but I think she had a real desire for marriage and children. Based on her social media posts and her lyrics during her Prince years, I think she wanted nothing more than to marry and start a family. In fact, I addressed this yesterday in Reply #1459. I'll repeat the relevant portion here:

.

I agree that Miss Andy is ambitious...and I think that's part of what Prince liked about her. But...I think she was perfectly willing to put her career on hold, marry Prince, and have children. Recall her verse in "Time" when she says the following:

.

"I don't wanna work another day baby
No no stay with me
I wish u coulda stay with me
Stay with me
I don't think it matters anyway
It don't matter girl
For u I'm as rich as I could be
Baby baby"

.

Not that she would have needed to totally stop working. And, I don't think she wanted him to "retire." Instead, I think Prince was moving toward cutting back on touring and having long-term residencies at Paisley Park. He had the perfect set-up for that. So, Andy could have still recorded and performed there at PP. With a bit of help, perhaps from her sisters or other relatives, she could have still raised children.

.

I also remind folks who want to make it seem that Andy was "using" Prince that she and P had a mutually beneficial relationship. She wasn't "using" him any more than anyone else who was mentored by him. And she brought more to the table than most of his proteges. Yes, AA was young, but the girl already had an album under her belt, an independent album that was largely financed by money earned from her blossoming modeling career. Prince admired her drive.

.

Plus, I think there might have been a lot of people who didn't want to see Prince marry again, so they were probably all up in his ear (and in his head) about AA. That might have been what led P to sabotage so badly that relationship, in which he seemed happier than he had been in years. In fact, when he did come back to his senses, for whatever reason, he was never able to reunite with Andy, even though it appears that he spent what would turn out to be the last months of his life trying to do just that.

.

Finally, bibrose, I totally concur with your point that it is important for the world to know that Prince was human and not just some freaky sex god. He wanted the normalcy of a wife and family. Sure, he could have never had a "normal" marriage, but he wanted to start a family; however, his abandonment issues, coupled with two failed marriages, made it virtually impossible for him to fully give in to his feelings again.

.

Indeed, outside of his faith, he seemed to have a hard time believing in anything other than rock and roll. "He needed proof," he said in "Rocknroll Loveaffair." In fact, that song is, in my mind, very telling. Here are the first few verses:

She believed in fairy tales and princes
He believed the voices coming from his stereo
He believed in rock and roll

She left her past and those lilly white fences
And headed out to hollywood in search of her soul
But she had to pay the toll (yes she did)

They were bound to find each other
He needed proof, she needed a brother
That’s when stars collide
When there’s space for what you want
And your heart is open wide

.

In the end, as fate would have it, he and Andy's "stars collided," but I think a combination of Prince's previously damaged heart and outside forces made those stars cross, and they were never able to right the trajectory of their relationship. Theirs is a heartbreaking story. bawl

FlyOnTheWall,

I totally agree that 2 Y. 2 D. is Andy-inspired. To me, the following lines, especially the first one, are clear references to her:

She’s got knee-high boots & e-o-lectric hair. Born 2 b a rock star eye swear.

--

As for Rocknroll Loveaffair, I don't know. I'm still trying to decide if the following is a reference to Andy:

She left her past and those lilly white fences
And headed out to hollywood in search of her soul

--

I don't know what happened between the 2 of them, but Andy's social media presence makes it clear that she is focused on building her music career. She is ambitious. I wonder if her ambitions for a career may have conflicted with a long-term realtionship with Prince. He had no intentions on retiring. He lived in Minnesota. He worked with a lot of women, especially younger women. It looks like she lives in California.

--

The following is just my opinion, based on what I know about Prince. I think for a woman to have made it long-term with Prince, she would have had to accept that: (a) music was his first love (b) her life would revolve around Prince's schedule (b) he spent a lot of time working with other women (c) and (d) he made his home in Minnesota. She would have had to be content with having a career linked to his or just being the "wife of Prince" and if they had children, being a stay-at-home mom. Based on the Oprah interview in 1996, Mayte was very much on board with the role of being wife to Prince/mother to his children. Also, I think he would have wanted his wife to be a JW. Andy Allo clearly wants her own career. I think it would be difficult to be married to Prince and have your own career, unless your career was directly tied to his, e.g. being in his band.

Vanity and Andy are to far apart in time. The real contest is between the "all Prince songs are about Vanity" crowd and the the "all Prince songs are about Susannah" crowd wink

nod I call it the "stuck in the 80's crowd."

I think that Prince wrote songs for or about many different women. Some were about Vanity, some were about Susannah, some were about Mayte, some were about Manuela, some were about Andy, and others are about other women.

A quality of Andy that sets her apart from all of the other women/proteges/muses of Prince's is her songwriting ability. He wrote songs for her, she wrote songs about him, and they also wrote songs together.

yes Love, I heart your answer. I can sense your genuine spiritual nature. Not to mention your hotness!! razz

Prevention Magazine If only P had known.

bibrose, I think that Prince's pain was more than just physical. He dealt with a lot of emotional pain--abandonment as a child, the death of his son, 2 marriages ending in divorce, the death of his parents in the early 2000s, among others.

Has the "all Prince songs are about Vanity" crowd had it out with the "all prince songs are about Andy Allo" crowd? Was there a winner?

yes Thanks for sharing paradise 000. I have included above a screen shot from that night. Prince was so proud of Andy. This was the North Sea Jazz Festival in July of 2011. She had just met Prince three months earlier, at which time she had never even played the electric guitar!! She certainly wasn't accustomed to performing in front of crowds of 50-60,000 people.

.

He knew that he was throwing her into the deep end of the pool, the ocean, even, but he had faith in her ability to swim with the sharks, so to speak.

.

And, Miss Andy delivered. Pride was written all over P's face. And love. They were so in love. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention how flat-out gorgeous Prince was, at 51!! He was so doggone sexy on that ax and directing the NPG. The man was just exuding hotness. Yes, his sexual energy was on full display, there on the world stage. AA is one blessed woman.

yeahthat Good lord, he is smokin' hot! And watching him play the guitar makes me want to get down on my knees and worship worship him. The way he plays the guitar with such ease and with his eyes closed is a sight to behold. The acoustic version of "Let's Get It On" suited Andy's voice really well.
