I agree. I think they both fell HARD for each other. Then Prince got scared of letting go, emotionally, so he sabotaged their relationship. It's so sad that he couldn't allow himself to be happy. Just imagine the beautiful babies they might have made. And, they would have been born into Andy's large close-knit family. But, alas, it was not meant to be.

I dont know why...but this made me laugh...

Maybe the subtle reference to their age difference ?

Whenever I see or read that anyone has referred to "Uncle P "

I am reminded just how Old I am

(Two years younger than Our Prince..still look HOT too BTW smile lol

The age gap b/w ANdy and P is 30 years or so right ?

Could be she felt awkward, could be that even he did and they carried on their relationship under a bitter sweet umbrella of "if only we had met sooner" I dont know...

Whatever it was , its very clear that their collaboration inspired them both very much.

They made beautiful Music together....

She was probably shy about P's PDA. He was acting like a kid in love playing with her hair when he was singing "If I Was Your Girlfriend" during a concert. He did not care about showing his affection. She knew her family would see the footage so she had to behave herself. I don't think the age difference bothered him at all. P liked to hang out with young people. It kept him young and current, that is why he did not seem to age much except for the last year or so before he passed.

yes You make such excellent points, bibrose: Andy is a "good girl," a "good African girl," to be more precise, with an African father (and brothers!!). So, suffice it to say that she was new to being the muse of a global SEX GOD. nod

.

In fact, not only would her family see the footage, but her older brother Christopher traveled with her during her time with Prince and the NPG. So, he was probably usually right there in the audience, if not backstage or side stage, in the wings.

It all started that night in the Forum (circa April/May 2011) when Prince brought Andy onstage to dance, as he often does with audience members. After dancing for a few seconds, P was like, "Are you married?" He tried to play it off, but we know the deal! giggle

I feel in need of a smile today and this footage never fails to have that effect on me. Who could have known where that brief dance in April 2011 would lead? heart

Your summary focuses on only the years when Andy Allo is not actively collaborating with Prince. Prince did not release albums in 2011, 2012 and 2013. This does not mean that he was not recording as we all know he was quite prolific. Those were the three years that he was touring and collaborating with Andy Allo.

On HitnRun Phase Two, Andy Allo is credited on

In 2011, they were mostly touring but also worked on various songs. In 2012, they completed and released SuperConductor.

Hello Bibrose. Yes, my research on PV archives shows that the output of their collaboration is Superconductor where Mr/Dr PRN is executive producer and writer of three songs. The remaining albums of his life show that Ms AA had minimal influence during the last five years of his life because she is either assumed background vocals (RnRLA), rap (XtraLoveable, with the rap edited out for the album) or not listed or mentioned as working on them (e.g. Black Muse). According to Jill Jones, sometimes those who wrote songs or sang did not receive credit or credit was mistakenly given to those who did not do the work. It is certain that he wrote and recorded in studios while touring, but I am not seeing anything other than their work on SC and his featured acoustic playing on Ms AA's Oui Can Love that point to her being 'central to this historic period' (using FlyOnThe Wall's words). BTW, he produced a dance CD that was released in 2012 featuring BV, so he was working on other projects aside from their collaboration.

Good evening, amimissinsumthin. First, on Andy Allo's critically acclaimed Superconductor album, Prince was the executive producer and he co-wrote three of the songs. Andy is a writer on every song on that record. Secondly, I love me some Jill Jones, but exactly when was the last time she worked with Prince?

.

With regard to Art Official Age (2014), Andy Allo is all over that album. First of all, she has two duets with him on that historic album: "Time" and "What It Feels Like." That, in and of itself, is unheard of, and I mean this literally. She also co-wrote both of those delicious ballads. Additionally, she sang background vocals on "Breakdown." This does not include the songs that are arguably inspired by AA, including most, if not all of the beautiful ballads, like:

  1. "Clouds"
  2. "Breakfast Can Wait"
  3. "This Could Be Us"
  4. "U Know"

.

On HNRP2 (2015), I would argue that Allo inspired the following tracks:

  1. "RocknRoll Love Affair"
  2. "2 Y. 2 D."
  3. "Look at Me, Look at U"
  4. "When She Comes"
  5. "Revelation"

.

HNRP1 (2015), I would say, has at least two songs that were inspired by Andy.

  1. "This Could B Us"
  2. "June"

.

I also believe AA inspired P's slightly modified cover of "Anotherlove" on the 3rd Eye Girl Plectrumelectrum (2014) album.

.

Lastly, the acoustic album on which she and Prince collaborated, Oui Can Luv, released for just 12 hours on TIDAL, in November 2015, is really unlike anything Prince had done previously. I especially love Andy's original song "False Alarm" on that record. Let's hope that the album soon gets the wide release that it deserves.

.

In conclusion, most agree that Andy Allo fueled Prince's creativity greatly during the time that she worked with him, beginning in 2011. For instance, within days of meeting her in April that year, and before she officially joined the NPG, Prince shocked the world with a new ballad that some were saying was his best in recent memory, "U Will B," sung live on May 5, 2011, during one of his residency shows at the Forum in Los Angeles. The song, a duet with AA, was never actually released and it can presently only be heard on Andy Allo's Facebook, where she posted it on January 25, 2013.

.

That is not to say, however, that he did not work with others, like Joshua Welton, who, as the first to ever produce a Prince album, other than Prince, is also a central figure in P's final chapter. His last band 3rd Eye Girl and other associates and proteges are also noteworthy.

.

What I am saying is that Andy was at the center of Prince's world, both musically and emotionally, during the last five years of his life. Few would argue that point; although, as evidenced by your posts, some will try. Peace, amimissinsumthin. heart

FlyOnTheWall,

I totally buy into the two of them having a romantic relationship. But I think that to say she was at the center of his world musically and emotionally for the past 5 years is a bit of a stretch. Where is she on HNR2? Also, why wasn't he seen with AA more during the last couple of years? He was seen with Damaris Lewis more than AA in the past 2 years when out in public (excluding concerts). And Damaris says she and P were just good friends. I don't know about how often P and AA performed together in 2015 and 2016.

--

When Prince was with a woman (married or dating), he would take her out in public. He did this with Mayte, Manuela, Bria, and Andy. But in 2015 and 2016, I have not seen many pictures of him with Andy.

.

Greetings, 206Michelle. When I say that Andy was "at the center of Prince's world, both musically and emotionally," I'm talking about much more than geography and joint performances. Let me explain.

.

Perhaps the easiest of your questions to answer is the one regarding HNRP2, as I already addressed that album in the very post to which you are responding. For good measure, I'll share it again:

.

With regard to HNRP2 (2015), I would argue that Allo inspired the following tracks:

  1. "RocknRoll Love Affair,"
  2. "2 Y. 2 D.,"
  3. "Look at Me, Look at U,"
  4. "When She Comes"
  5. "Revelation"

.

Now, why wasn't Andy seen with Prince much during his last two years? As far as I can tell, beginning in 2013, Prince had done a first-rate job of pushing Andy away. I've been reading up on that period this week and Prince was in rare form. I think he might have been angry that Andy released Superconductor on her own, opting not to wait for him to release it on NPG. She also left MLPS during this time. He eventually got over that, but P was not used to being challenged in such a way.

.

Also, I don't know of any joint performances during his last two years; however, he did schedule a European tour, intended to be Piano & A Microphone shows, to coincide with Andy's European tour, but they both ended up canceling. He announced his planned tour during a hastily called presser at Paisley Park, in early November 2015, during which he also announced what he billed as the "Oui Can Luv Stream" on TIDAL when his and Andy's acoustic album would be streamed for only 12 hours on November 7. He played the album for the press and he projected Andy's photo on the projection screen. That evening with the press, which has been covered quite extensively in earlier pages of this thread, is detailed in this article in the Guardian.

.

Prince was making every effort to try to win Andy back, as he had behaved very very badly with a string of ever younger women in 2013, likely in an effort to try to make Andy jealous. I think she relented for a time in 2014, but he was apparently not able to make any long-term headway. But, that didn't stop him from trying, as evidenced by this post from his Instagram, or Princestagram, as he called it. I posted it quite awhile back on this thread. Here is a link to that page. See Reply #551. I will also repost the Instagram post below.

.

This is Prince's Instagram from October 27, 2015. There is absolutely no doubt to whom this message is addressed. He and Andy both used social media quite a bit to send open, cryptic messages to each other. This was a Prince we had never seen. He was in begging mode. In the event that the Instagram link does not work, please try this direct link.

Hello, FlyOnTheWall. I am cheerfully up for the challenge of righting the false. Truth is the light. I still do not believe that Ms AA is the center. Your elaborate re-hash is now including Mr JW which I introduced as the real creative center. To wit, a quote from and a link to an interview with Mr JW in CuePoint mag (2015):

“Welcome to Paisley Park… I am so very glad you came.”

Like Willy Wonka greeting a child who just won a golden ticket, the brother spins around, lets out a huge Chesire cat grin, and ushers me straight inside…

But — this man is not Prince. Instead, the gatekeeper is 25-year-old Joshua Welton, the keyboardist in Prince’s latest band and the husband of the band’s remarkable drummer Hannah Ford. He is also the co-producer of Prince’s latest album, Art Official Age, but if you believe in liner notes, the biggest musical collaborator the musical icon may have ever had." (Me: Let us find the liner notes). The rest of the interview which includes words from Mr/Dr PRN himself, illustrate the MAJOR impact and influence this young producer was having on Mr/Dr PRN's creative output beginning with TEG and PE album through to 2015.

Even his assistant (being from Ethiopia) inspired his creativity. I love this part: “Like [my asst] is from Ethiopia, and when you go there, you hear so many wonderful new things,” Prince says talking about the tall, striking woman he had walked in with who now sits down next to her presumed boss, a pen and pad in hand." Now, I am assuming (without proof here yet) that my brother has been to East Africa, Ethiopia, no less the source of physical humankind. (I hope he visited Lalibela.) His world and inspirations were expanding exponentially in such a short amount of time. He was operating on a plane much higher and he sought and found those who could flow with him during those last years. Mr JW is/was it! Here is the link to the great article: https://medium.com/cuepoi....kp0h9chfq

Salam.

Peace, amimissinsumthin. heart

Salam.

Hi, amimissinsumthin. How you doin' (in my Wendy Williams voice)??? Welcome back!

.

Let me first thank you for the link to the wonderful article. I heart Cuepoint!!! We surely have not heard the last of young Joshua Welton. BTW: I never knew what he looked like, so it was great seeing his picture.

.

As, I stated earlier, he was a central figure in P's final chapter, entering the scene in 2013. It was certainly an oversight to not mention him in Reply #1332 when I listed many, but certainly not all, of the people who Prince mentored and worked with during his final chapter. Let me repeat what I wrote in that earlier post.

.

FlyOnTheWall said:

.

With regard to Prince's creative output during his final five years, and Andy Allo's role in it, there are FIVE albums to unpack: Superconductor (2012), Art Official Age (2014), Hitnrun Phase One (2015), and Hitnrun Phase Two (2015). There is also the very rare acoustic album, Oui Can Luv (2015). For most reasonable, objective persons, that makes AA a central figure during this era.

.

And, that's not to say that he didn't work with other associates/proteges/artists during this time, most notably Judith Hill, 3rd Eye Girl, MonoNeon, Adrian Crutchfield, Nik West, Eryn Allen Kane and several others artists that he mentored during his final years, like Kandace Springs.

.

But, back to the insightful article that you shared. Among the key takeaways for me are these.

.

Joshua A. M. Welton is even listed as the recorder and mixer of 2014’s Art Official Age, an album many describe as Prince’s best crafted and most urgent in years...HITNRUN is Prince’s latest project. Co-produced, mixed and mastered by Welton, it’s Prince’s 38th studio album. And it brings with it a whole new musical vocabulary. Dubbed “super experimental” by the band, perhaps as fair warning to the faithful, the record’s 10 tracks introduce a new set of beats and rhythms and moods to the Prince canon more than any album since, say Around The World In A Day took a left turn from the guitar-drenched Purple Rain-rock that preceded it. Welton co-produced the album, but even more so than on Art Official Age, the young producer’s musical expressions are all over it...One of the energies that has come roaring back in Prince’s music over the past few years is of the sexual kind. It’s in the pounding of Art Official Age’s “Breakdown” or the guitar wails at the end of PLECTRUMELECTRUM’s “ANOTHERLOVE.It’s all over HITNRUN’s lead single, “HARDROCKLOVER.”

.

So, not only did Welton act as Prince's co-producer on his last three albums, AOA, HNRP1, and HNRP2, he also mixed, recorded, and mastered the projects. One hat not credited to Welton, however, is that of the composer. Meaning, Prince still wrote the lyrics, many of which were inspired by Andy Allo, which, I remind you (the collective), is the focus of this thread.

.

Also, Welton is credited with creating the renewed sexual energy on Prince's final recordings, but he can't take credit for those sexually-charged lyrics...or for Prince's apparent recharged sexuality. That's all Prince...and his collaborator, none other than Miss Andy. I didn't want to go there earlier, but, hey, it is what it is.

.

(BTW: Prior to reading this article, I had never considered "Hardrocklover" Andy-inspired, but, after perusing those sexy lyrics, looooook, who knows? She does love that ax and she does seem to be partial to her ripped jeans!! Plus, she has been known to serve up "strawberries, chocolate, and whipped cream" on her Instagram!! See below.) Note to self: Update list of Andy-inspired songs, STAT!! razz

.

.

Andy%20Allo-Ripped%20Jeans2_zpsyuzmhrfm.jpg

.

Andy%20Allo-Breakfast_zpseoanu35r.png

.

But...I digress. To be sure, even adding Welton's name to the mix still does not make the list exhaustive. It is clear that Prince had many influences during his final era; however, none were more important than his collaboration, musical and romantic, with Andy Allo, IMHO. Some, like you, might beg to differ, and that's fine. On this point, let us agree to disagree, agreeably, of course.

.

In any case, thanks again for the great feature on Joshua Welton. I'm going to be checking for him in the coming months and years, as he should have many more productive years ahead. Peace. thumbs up!

FlyOnTheWall,

I totally agree that 2 Y. 2 D. is Andy-inspired. To me, the following lines, especially the first one, are clear references to her:

She’s got knee-high boots & e-o-lectric hair. Born 2 b a rock star eye swear.

--

As for Rocknroll Loveaffair, I don't know. I'm still trying to decide if the following is a reference to Andy:

She left her past and those lilly white fences
And headed out to hollywood in search of her soul

--

I don't know what happened between the 2 of them, but Andy's social media presence makes it clear that she is focused on building her music career. She is ambitious. I wonder if her ambitions for a career may have conflicted with a long-term realtionship with Prince. He had no intentions on retiring. He lived in Minnesota. He worked with a lot of women, especially younger women. It looks like she lives in California.

--

The following is just my opinion, based on what I know about Prince. I think for a woman to have made it long-term with Prince, she would have had to accept that: (a) music was his first love (b) her life would revolve around Prince's schedule (b) he spent a lot of time working with other women (c) and (d) he made his home in Minnesota. She would have had to be content with having a career linked to his or just being the "wife of Prince" and if they had children, being a stay-at-home mom. Based on the Oprah interview in 1996, Mayte was very much on board with the role of being wife to Prince/mother to his children. Also, I think he would have wanted his wife to be a JW. Andy Allo clearly wants her own career. I think it would be difficult to be married to Prince and have your own career, unless your career was directly tied to his, e.g. being in his band.

Hi, 206Michelle. I think that "Rocknroll Loveaffair" is definitely about Prince and Andy. You mentioned these lines, included below, along with the ones immediately following in that first verse:

.

She left her past and those lily white fences
And headed out to hollywood in search of her soul

But she had to pay the toll, yes she did.
They were bound to find each other
He needed proof, she needed a brother
Thats when stars collide

.

First, "when stars collide" became the title of one of the tracks on Andy's Superconductor album. Moreover, when she met Prince, she had recently moved from Sacramento (lily white fences) to LA. (Hollywood). Who knows what he means about "her soul" and her "having to pay the toll." Perhaps he just means that music is in her soul...and the "toll" might have been dealing with his mind games and "tricks" in 2013.

.

Indeed, the answer(s) to that part, including "she needed a brother" might be found in her poems "The Sculptor & Scientist" and "Now." She writes of needing "a refuge" (a brother) and "carrying the weight of 1000 days" and more. Also, P might have considered what she saw as mistreatment at the hands of "The Sculptor & Scientist" as "the toll."

.

Andy%20Allo-Poetry-The%20Sculpton%20%20The%20Scientist_zpslyznrfwh.png

.

Andy%20Allo-Poetry-Now_zpsu5xswqsm.png

.

Moreover, I agree that Miss Andy is ambitious...and I think that's part of what Prince liked about her. But...I think she was perfectly willing to put her career on hold, marry Prince, and have children. Recall her verse in "Time" when she says the following:

.

I don't wanna work another day baby
No no stay with me
I wish u coulda stay with me
Stay with me
I don't think it matters anyway
It don't matter girl
For u I'm as rich as I could be
Baby baby

.

Not that she would have needed to totally stop working. And, I don't think she wanted him to "retire." Instead, I think Prince was moving toward cutting back on touring and having long-term residencies at Paisley Park. He had the perfect set-up for that. So, Andy could have still recorded and performed there at PP. With a bit of help, perhaps from her sisters or other relatives, she could have still raised children.

.

With regard to Prince working with lots of young women, that was really not mandatory. P chose to surround himself with a bevy of beautiful women...and Andy was not there for it. She was apparently not willing to participate in the harem scene. Really, if he ever wanted to have a chance at having a successful marriage, he was going to have to control his "wanderlust." That's the bottom line.

.

Lastly, I agree with you almost wholeheartedly about what would have been required for a woman to have a successful marriage/relationship with Prince. I don't, however, believe that converting to the Jehovah's Witness faith was still a requirement. That might have been true when he first converted, but I believe that Prince, himself, was moving away from the JWs. I mean, just look at his conduct (and music) during his last five years. It was not that of a Witness, not based on my personal experience with JW relatives. Also, he seemed to be moving toward a more New Age spirituality, with teachings like those included in the "Affirmations" on Art Official Age.

.

Perhaps more will eventually be revealed about what happened to derail P's and AA's relationship. For now, all we can do is read the tea leaves and try to piece together the puzzle. (Pardon my mixed metaphors, please!) lol As always, thanks for your engagement and input. heart

This is Prince's Instagram from October 27, 2015. There is absolutely no doubt to whom this message is addressed. He and Andy both used social media quite a bit to send open, cryptic messages to each other. This was a Prince we had never seen. He was in begging mode.

FOTW, a question: Do you consider yourself a Prince fan/"fam" or someone who loved/loves Prince?

I think that Prince fans can be categorized as follows:

  1. Musicians and students of music: these are people who admire Prince as a virtuoso musician who are interested in his skill as a musician and are interested in emulating his work ethic to reach his performance and skill level. They engage in more discussion about Prince's work and are not interested in the salacious details of his personal life. Some of them are likely to trade in boot leg music event though this was hurtful to Prince.
  2. Music lovers whom Prince referred to as Family: people who have supported Prince from the release of his initial albums, have almost all his records, cassette tapes, videos, CD and albums. They attended his concerts and know the lyrics to most of his songs, and genuinely cared about him. I would say that the NPG Club members fall into this category. All music lovers that have cared about Prince for several years who knew his music but never saw him in concert. They are gutted by his passing because attending a Prince concert was in their bucket list of things to do. They are interested in supporting his name and legacy. These fans are truly the Purple Family or Purple Army.
  3. The Obnoxious Fans: They act like Prince was beholden to them. They got upset over his clothes, style, interviews, wives, GFs, side chicks or whatever. They were irritated with him for not releasing more albums. They dissed every protege even though they knew that Prince loved to teach and wanted to develop new talent. They take pride in not supporting any protege's work even if this damages Prince's legacy. One is both horrified and appalled just reading through some of the posts by obnoxious fans on Prince.org. It is sad that Prince must likely read their posts while he was living.
  4. Mentally Dating Prince Fans: These are the Prince fans who fantasize about him and wish they could have had a relationship with him. Some of these fans are seriously in love with Prince and are still obsessed with him. They hate all ex-wives, GFs, and side chicks. They are not interested in any scholarly discussion of his work. They just love the gossip or tea!
  5. The Johnny come latelies: they recently jumped on the Prince bandwagon when he passed. They know a few songs from the Purple Rain album. They ask annoying questions even though they can Google the answers themselves. They start discussion threads without searching for related topics first.

So where do I fit in? I am definitely in the #2 category. My goal is to learn more about Prince's work and do what I can to help protect his name and legacy.

Thanks, bibrose. Excellent delineation!! I'd say that I don't fit perfectly into either of your categories, but I'm closest to #2. I have loved him since his first album, though. Now, I have become a Prince researcher and advocate, which I am thoroughly enjoying.

I usually avoid labels, angel; however, I would say that I consider myself a "fam" AND I love Prince...and I intend to do whatever I can to help preserve his legacy.

I really like this analysis..

There is another catagory though....perhaps a less popular one...but an emerging group none the less

6. The Spiritualists the seekers:These people have deep and real affection for GOD and are attracted to the Artist as an evolving being, who was honest about his failings unflinching in his faith whilst being transparent about his inner conflict with his Higher and Lower self.THis group of people study his journey and in particular find that his life can serve as a guide on how to use the gifts God has bestowed upon us, to serve and uplift humanity in your own individual and unique way.

I myself am a 6 ,on a solid foundation of a 2 and occasionally a tinge of 4 on account of me being so HOT and all...smile

Im also like FLY an avid researcher and like to draw my own conclusions as a result of that....

ooopsss....Sorry Latin..I did it again !!!!!!

lol duh nutty pray bow
