True. Let's hope his death will start to change how these very addict drugs are prescribed by shining a light on the growing problem of pain killer dependency and abuse.

It's 2016, he should have been outfitted with a bionic hip, using surgery to do it with minimal invasiveness, and quick recovery time. This needs to change. Write your politicians and tell them to say no to the big Pharma lobbyists- and yes to creating and enforcing regulations the encourage real solutions to problems like chronic pain and other diseases.

"...Both Dunn and Gupta said many of those concerns are now outlined in a new set of CDC guidelines, issued in March, that for the first time direct physicians on how to best prescribe, manage and monitor opioid treatment.

"The guidelines are very clear, and a foundation for how to handle opioid treatment going forward, which is great, because this is an all-hands-on-deck crisis," said Gupta.

"But what's needed more than anything is a real conversation between doctors, patients and family members about what the pain control goals are and what the risks are. Because there are risks," she added. "And also how to identify signs of an overdose and how to intervene, and the importance of having (the opioid blocker) naloxone (Narcan) on hand, and how to use it."

Because, Gupta said, "the fact is, unintentional overdoses happen all the time. It could very well have been unintentional for Prince. We don't know. But he was such a secretive person. And perhaps he underestimated the importance of having people around him who he could talk to and who were educated about safe opioid use. Those conversations are critical. Unfortunately, they're not always happening."

And the guidelines from CDC. As others have mentioned, in the past two years prescribing clinicians are being updated on appropriate use of these medicines. These new guidelines were released on March 18, 2016. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/v...501e1.htm/

Besides the risks of the medicine alone, are all the risks of drug interactions that many of us just don't know. Even foods with some drugs can destroy your kidneys and liver and kill you.

If you are unsure, talk to your phamacists. They are the people the clinicians use for information.

I had to walk away from this new "info" yesterday. It was too much for me. I did not follow Prince as closely as some of you but his death was and is still heartbreaking for me. A part of my childhood died when he died. No matter if his death was accidental or a set up or whatever some of you think, I will NEVER see him as a druggie, a drug addict or whatever description some of you choose to put out there. He suffered pain, the same way some of us have. Whether it be health wise or through personal loss. His hips. His week old son died. His wifes miscarriage. His parents dying. He was divorced 2 times etc... He was human people!!! I would have to say this is what bothers me the most. People can't see past his celebrity status and see he was human. Instead of bashing the man, the genius, the musical love of our lives we should honor him. I think we can all agree that he deserves that much from us, his fams.

I agree. I'm more of a lifelong casual fan that kept up with the music on and off and my best memories are playing the albums and tracks I love best on repeat or catching Prince specials/concerts that happened to be on over the years, plus he's classy, humourous and I'm so thankful I saw him, but I didn't really keep up with day-to-day news with him, but this really hurts. I definitely don't see him as an addict either, but feel this is too close to home cause of the fentanyl and knowing someone who takes it too but was struggling with pain regardless, it makes too much sense why one would want more to stop the pain.

Why would any 'powers that be' wait until the Copyright Revision Act of 1976 started taking effect for Prince's catalog of music back in 2013-2014? That makes no sense whatsoever. Please see article and look up the Act. http://www.billboard.com/...um-coming.

The powers that be had 35 years to figure something out. I do not believe Prince's death was a conspiracy. The law already started rolling in his favor. It's just up to his family and lawyers now to see everything through.

Look at what the Michael Jackson estate has done. They sold what was Michael's half of the ATV/Sony Publishings back to Sony Music Entertainment for $75 million. Yes, that's a lot of money in the "right now this very moment" short-term for Prince Michael, Paris, & Blanket. But in the long-term, Sony [as 100% owner] is the real winner because those songs will make billons of dollars more within a century's time. And you know damn good and well that if Michael was alive, that deal would have NEVER happen at all because he knew better, hence why Michael had to be murdered and out of the equation.

Just wait for the worst to come now that Prince is no longer around to stop The Warner Bros Music Group or any other greed MFers from taking advantages of the situation. All it will take is for someone/some people to give Tyka the very wrong business advices and before you know it, all of Prince's master recordings, publishings, and even Paisley Park Studio are going to be owned by Warner Bros. disbelief

Just wait!

He could have gone to another hospital the following day, or even better upon arrival in Minneapolis that same night.

Yes it may help a handful of people make some changes in their life. But I'm afraid in this case with no supporting information that says differently this is all going to be shined over and chucked up to another over indulgent rockstar who overdosed like so many others before him. The possible whys won't amount to anything worth anything. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if they were legal or illegal, necessary or not, there's no concrete supporting info here and that's depressing, one has to make up their own based on the minimal knowledge they have.

Yes Morningsong. Still trying to figure out if "self administered" means you take a pill or apply a patch that has been prescribed for you or what? Guess the outcome is the same but when something overwhelming like this happens you focus on the crumbs.

This minutia of info does nothing to start any kind of healing. I can't get out of my head his dying alone, just lying there for hours with no one holding him. It is so wrong.

admission is easy, just say U believe, then come 2 this place in your heart.

That is what self administered means. A patch or pill that a patient takes himself, rather than an injection or other form of administration that is performed and then monitored by a doctor.

Exactly. If Prince cared about any of that he would have seen that it was protected, he didn't. Prince was a very smart man, and I'm sure he knew the ins and outs of the music world. He was alive when Michael died, and if he thought for a second that Michael was murdered for his publishings, then I'm sure he would have thought about himself and his.

I completely agree with this. ^^^. Yes, pride and image. What a burden to bear. But there's also denial and refusal to listen to others. Those of us who love someone who's afflicted with addiction have the frustration of trying to reason with someone who won't listen to solid advice.

I do have trouble seeing this autopsy report. Okay, this the digital age but something like this on the internet? No. What about privacy? I know this was posted somewhere else initially, but my God: would we want to have our autopsy report or death certificate spread around for everyone to see? I don't think so. I don't know Prince personally, I've never talked to the man but one thing is for certain: if he could see this, he would've been pissed as hell.

sorry if posted already but this is what Dez Dickerson wrote on his FBpage today.

I was contacted by a major news organization Thursday and asked for a response regarding the coroner's report on Prince-my response was "I have nothing to say, other than the fact that the Prince I knew would never be mentioned in the same sentence with the word 'drugs'". That quote was mischaracterized in headlines by that organization and a number of other news services, who picked up my quote, with the use of the words "Shocked" and "Stunned"-words I DID NOT, and would not, use. The Prince that I, and others, knew, would not be associated with drugs-period. Now, my brothers and sisters, SHARE THAT quote please...

^^This. 1). The ME's office was obviously holding the report and only released because info was getting leaked. Had it not gotten leaked, how long would they have held it?? 2). What respectable entity releases autopsy reports via TWITTER?? I know we live in a social media driven society but really? They could have just uploaded to their database and not said a word, just let people request it..but instead, Prince's cause of death became a Twitter post. Unfathomable.
