Given his past, it's pretty that he wants to meet Willow and "see what she's doing in 5 years".

I like how KCOOL thinks that this is a good thing.

  • Willow Smith: “Eye love what she’s doing, her and her brother [Jaden]. Eye want 2 meet them. It almost happened, but it didn’t work out. Eye want 2c what she’s making n five years.prince

When prince produces Willow in 5 years. Eye'm pretty sure her album won't have the same groove throughout it, with her MUMBLING HER VOCALS!!....rolleyes

If Prince writes the lyrics, I hope she mumbles!

It was talked about in a few interviews and I think it's common Prince knowledge that there was something about the 'in house' competition of the 1981-1987 years that helped make Prince's sound and creativity peak the way it did. Once those years were over if rose and fell, hit and missed.

Hearing himself reflected and deflected via the Time Sheila E Vanity 6 the Family etc helped hone his sound.

We will never see that again.

The only one that I liked on that list as far as inspirational was Joni Mitchell.

I thought that was a great series of statements about other artists that showed humility and openess, he seems thrilled for all involved about who they are and their talent -- and honestly, I wish everyone had that attitude. Prince used to be far less humble... and far more arrogant.

As for not mentioning D'Angelo, well he didn't mention FKA Twigs and maybe a shout out would feel patronizing at this point. It's possible Prince thinks D owes him way too much, I guess he still has things to get over with but this list of artists and what he says seems to show he's at least evolving away from his old arrogance.

I thought Black Messiah was total bullshit except one song, which is another blatant Prince rip but hey different strokes. The entire album is a fucking copy of dudes who copied other dudes but it's a D'Angelo album so people suck his dick but Black Messiah in reality was a commercial flop and creatively it was a copycat game. Every song is a copy of an idea that came before and you could say that a lot of artists have copied folks and still done great music but I wish people would stop acting like Black Messiah is the Holy Grail of music because it's not. It's not better or more creative than what Bilal is doing. In my mind people saw Jesse, Questlove, and Leeds involvement and said IT'S A MASTERPIECE! Man that shit ain't funkier than Medeski Martin and Wood record. I'm still waiting to hear what D'Angelo's authentic music sounds like. But D'Angelo gets a pass for doing nothing for over a decade and putting together a collection of songs that are essentially tributes and touring with a tribute band. GTFOH. I haven't played a single song off that record since the week it came out and I'm not the only person who thinks this way about this record.

It's not my fault Black Messiah is so much better than Prince's new album.

But its not.. really. Just to you. I can't stomach that album and I've tried. Give me anything recent by Meshel N'degeocello 9.9 times out of 10 over anything by D'Angelo.

Gotta agree that Meshell is smoking D'Angelo. She's smoking Prince, too. Black Messiah is ok, but it's really considerably less enjoyable than his previous work. I mean the mush-mouth singing song after song gets old. What happened to the voice on Cruisin' and Untitled? All that said, I prefer Black Messiah over HNR, but not by as wide a margin as what others state.

Meanwhile anyone attending any future interview featuring Prince, Willow and Jaden Smith better wear some heavy mask because just the fumes from their collective musings are bound to deliver a high concentration of WTFs.

-// Co/sign people on this board live fucking bubble in terms of music. I know no one that like Black Mumbles and some of you need to get over your haterade of hip-hop. Try listening to Kendrick Lamar before you write him off he has original music on his cd and decent lyrics. In addition, there is nothing wrong with dance tracks music is suppose to be fun. Some of you are going into old fart mode.

LMAO @ "Black Mumbles"...D'Angelo does sound like he's singing with a lit Newport hanging out the corner of his mouth, while eating sunflower seeds at the same time...on 1000 Deaths i have no idea WTF he is saying...and that's while im reading the lyrics as the song plays... its a good album but thats more due to the musicianship of dudes like Pino Palladino and Chris Dave and ?uestlove and Jesse Johnson... it does seem like P doesnt feel like D'Angelo is worthy of his throne (he's not)...i read somewhere that Questlove and D went to Paisley Park once, and Prince allegedly had a condescending tone towards D'Angelo to the point where after they left Paisley Park, D'Angelo was emotionally crushed and embarrassed in front of his peers

I love D. Dude is doing it. But I think u r doing too much. Prince has already made his definitive works. I dont think dude is worried about D. At all. Nor should he be...I would feel the same way if we were talking about Prince back in 1982 if one of his fans was shitting on James Brown. D put out a DOPE album after 10 years of being away. IF he's not putting out the more energetic and stronger work than a 57 year old dude that has been to the mountain top more than a few times then he would have needed to re examine his music career..
