A remastered Purple Rain is almost a certainty. The market and industry are obviously primed and ready for it. Shame that Prince (if it is him) is holding it up. . I would say this one will for sure happen. Any of the others, probably not.

The PR remaster will happen at some point. It's already been Ridiculously over-hyped. Multiple theads about it and OT threads hijacked by the talk of it.

Yeah but to have a crystal clear version of Possessed and the full length Computer Blue....man that would be so great. It'll probably never happen but we can dream.

I would be really disappointed if there are no rare, previously unreleased bonus tracks.

The Remaster of Purple Rain was NOT over hyped! It would had been the beggest musical event of the year! But (as many of us predicted) Prince blew it. Prince failed....which is why I turned my back towards him now. *jeah*

Oh right, well in that case i guess it wouldn't be great after all.

not be great? what were you smoking? of course we need all versions if he bothers releasing that stuff anyways. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yes I agree, I was just giving a grumpy response to Bart's unasked for, irrelevant info.

Get over it, that won't happen in a physical release, with bonuses. Prince was clear about that two months ago. "same album, same content"

How well would that sell? How happy would WB be? How long until they send him some letters, lawyers, etc? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Prince won't be sued. Wb could re-release PR according to the contract but without Prince's involvement and promotion, there is no point. Both parties lost interest.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That depends on the terms in the contract. Can you show us the terms in there? Did WB get P to allow some bonus tracks? (b-sides, remixes, extended versions, unreleased stuff, etc) If the contract has no terms for bonus materials, no promotion effort by P, then what is WB waiting for? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

That's a blantant misquote. He said "same album", he never said "same content". Please don't do that. However, it's now safe to assume that the remaster won't see the light of day b4 the end of 2014 and given all the public bashing I doubt relationships between and WB are too great. My guess 4 what it's worth is that since the reversal of the masters most likely included a compulsary licence for WB for XXX years and included specifics on remasters, still feels he's a slave. He probably won't be happy until he's 100% free to do whatever the hell he wants with those recordings and it'd be just like him to spoil the whole thing as much as he can in the meantime, just to make WB's life difficult. It was supposed to be a huge release with a lot of promotionnal effort, a huge tour, etc. with unreleased stuff. The thing is that when WB saw how prince didn't care to promote about AOA and PE, despite he insisted to release them before PR, they understood too late, they had been screwed. WB has no interest in releasing a reeditionwithout promotionnal effort by Prince. Even his fanbase didn't buy AOA and PE, so PURPLE RAIN without extra material ? The large audience doesn't care about prince if there is no huge promotion. This release without the involvement of prince would be a guaranteed loss of money.

I have 3 different versions of Computer Blue. The best being the 11:59 "Corridor version" of Computer Blue. The 14 minute version of Computer Blue, and the edited 9 minute version of Computer Blue. Techincally I can say 4 different versions, if I count the 4 minute album version. [Edited 12/11/14 6:29am]

Oh yeah ? So why WB didn' t release it yet ? What are they expecting if not prince's involvment in promotion? Many insiders claimed that a huge tour, tv specials and performances were scheduled. They wanted to make it an event release, a million seller. PURPLE RAIN is still in the top 15 of the best selling album in the US, without any re-release.

. But most of those versions are edits of one "master" version, AFAIK. Unless they are actually different mixes, but I don't think so. © Bart Van Hemelen

. Why did it take years before we got a Hits-compilation? Because Prince was in the way and WBR eventually paid him a couple of millions to get out of the way. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not cooperating 100% WRT outtakes etc., using them as leverage of some sort for whatever he's deciding to release next. At a certain point WBR realized they weren't getting it in time for a reelase this year, which meant it immediately got postponed for a couple of months. . Also: this is a one-time opportunity for WBR. It's not like they'll get another shot at a "proper" deluxe edition a couple of years down the line if they mess this one up, so this needs to be the definitive release. .
. If anybody at WBR expected a sliver of promotional effort from Prince WRT Purple Rain then they were idiots. The best they could have hoped for was that he wouldn't get in the way, and even that was apparently too much to ask (see recent interview in which he kinda pissed on the remaster). © Bart Van Hemelen

It's still probably in the works and won't come out until next year. Not gonna hold my breath for it though. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Maybe they'll try to get it out in time for an Oscars 30th anniversary performance. They already did a 20th anniversary at the Grammy's. Would they want to do another one? "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

AOA & PE needed room to breathe. Now they have. They've sold just about all the copies they're going to sell. PR 30 will happen next year. That's what WB is in this for. Not to release new Prince. Doesn't sell. Not to be in business with Prince. He's a pain in the ass.

For those of us aware of The Purple Rain 30th Anniversary Remaster Deluxe Edition are disappointed about it probably won't ever happen (I know I am). Let's face the reality that the Purple Rain Remaster just isn't gonna happen. Prince in that recent interview was against the release of it. He even said "same album" which is a direct contradiction of what was promised in their public agreement on the project (see Prince re-signs with WB announcement). Then Prince's two albums flopped (AoA,EP). Knowing Prince's track record, you think he's gonna blame himself for this? No, in Prince's mind he can do no wrong. You know he's gonna blame WB. Remember what happened with Prince and Clive Davis after Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic flopped? Exactly. So instead of a Purple Rain Remaster release in 2015, we're gonna hear about Prince seeking legal action against WB to sever ties with them, and WB counter sueing Prince for breach of contract. In other words, it's gonna be like the 90's all over again. Watch.
