AOA and PE are sub-releases that doesn't sell and that nobody cares of. Even prince's fan here didn't bought it, that means a lot.

There are "suprises" releases such as BEYONCE that are sold digitally. Besides that, you can't release an album without advertising it on amazon, itunes at least 1 month and a half before.

You know damn well there is absolutely zero chances for PR to be released just before the grammys.

Realistically they can release an album when they like, there isnt and rules laid out.

I've not heard anyone outside the fans talk about PR, so whats to say it will sell any better? Especially if its correct that it wont include any bonus material there is no incentive for people to buy it even the fans.

I've already got the HD tracks version if there is no extras I certainly won't be buying it for the sake of it sounding a little better, I think they have had enough of my money this year between gigs and the two albums and think a few others might feel the same.

Realistically, why in hell would WB release the PR reedition without advertising it at least on their website ? Fucking nonsense.

Medias talked about it during the 30 th anniversary in june. Even Jay Leno recently wondering what they were doing with this release. PR is one the 20 best selling albums of all time in the USA. It is still in the BB 200. Before the release of THRILLER 25, PR and THRILLER sold exactly the same amount (around 2.5 millions according to soundscan) in the USA. And THRILLER already benefited from the 2001 re-release.

The fact there is no bonuses is exactly the reason why WB won't never release it. This, plus the fact that Wb knows now that Prince won't promote it in any way.

Think we can all agree that WB messed up here lol

Whoever signed off on this deal is probabaly in some bother, they should have known that bowing down, giving his masters back and releasing 2 albums for him would get them nowhere, they should have held back to see if he played ball.

He's probabaly already pushing another album on them Saying "Just release this then Prince will sit down and look at your Purple Rain artwork"

But that's not important.....To me this is less about when/if a remastered Purple Rain release will drop and more about people giving in to rampant speculation.....

Prince said in a recent interview that he is not interested by PR Deluxe project
From what I understand .....It will be released he said in a minimal form. ...WB and Prince have Signed for a big deal last april for a Goldmine for the fans (WB words)...this is already end of this year and i can’t see anything on the screen announcing Something big is coming....and the whispers about all this project is not on the good way so yes .....speculations are here. ..some of us are expecting big things and others no big things...but at this date no news...no details about what’s going on...so There is a big place for speculations...Yes u’r right but I have a little hope..maybe u can help and give us a little info that will be highly appreciated by the community? Thanx in advance

Frankly, with a masterpiece like Art Official Age and and a great album like Plectrumelectrum, I wouldn't miss the Purple Rain reissue. The best news for me is to have my favourite musician back with amazing new music again.

The Purple Rain Remaster is available only if you mail a money order for $79.99 to the address found on the website: PRPLERN3RDEYEREVISED.

The website will eagerly accept pre-orders, and will not give you updates on the shipping status for nearly 2 years.

When you pay a visit to the building that used to house a Blockbuster video store, you'll find the orders were shipped there instead, with no explanation. And the closed Blockbuster store will have a 5 CD set that only costs $39.99.

You, the long time loyal fan who supported your favorite artist by placing an advance order, will still have to wait another 6 weeks for your 4 CD set that you spent $79.99 on, nearly 2 years ago.

When it finally arrives, you'll find it is a re-recording of Purple Rain, as played and re-imagined by 3RDEYEGIRL. The lyrics were changed to be non-offensive to the Jehovah's Witness cult... errr, I mean organization. The album was recorded digitally on an iMac, and mixed with the loudest possible compression & clipping levels.

If you come online to Prince.org, Housequake.com or SmallClub.org to voice your complaints, you will find a cease & desist legal document in your mailbox within three business days of posting your complaint, with threats to be sued for promoting hate & falsehoods and vicious slander.

hmmm

You got me thinking, if we were given a choice:

AOA & PlectrumElectrum OR Purple Rain remaster with b-sides and 12" versions only (NO previously unreleased material)...

What would we have chosen?

For me it's no contest: AOA & PlE
I'm not even interested in a remaster, I'm ONLY interested in previously unreleased material.

What say y'all?

cool

For me it would be the two new albums, even if the Purple Rain remaster had unreleased material. I know this is a very personal choice and that many people won't agree with me. But, for me, Prince is alive again, he's looking forward and making awesome music. I rate Art Official Age very highly, his best in many years. This was totally unexpected for me, I didn't think he'd be able to release an album as good as this one.

---

But, on the other side, of course I hope there's a remaster, and with unreleased material!

Am I missing something here? Does anyone remember the Purple Rain coffee mugs that were on sale on the 3rdEyeGirl website this past summer? Well I hate to break it to you all, but that was the Purple Rain remaster. In the form of a coffee mug. Now lay off the remaster everybody and smell the coffee. The Purple Rain coffee mug is about as remastered as it's going to get. Sorry. Oh yeah. Be careful what u ask for. You just might get it. "Sign O' The Times" remastered? (Sign O' The Times coffee mug) LOL!!!

Yeah. I "got over it" too, until I started seeing a pattern of poorly-planned, horribly executed and sometimes downright shady business practices over the years by Mr. Nelson.

16 years is a long time to be behaving poorly to the people who love your music & support you.

The movies and the remasters should tie together in some way.

We still don't know how he's releasing his remasters or if he has plans on making everything in the back catalog available.

Something like Purple Rain, or any of the albums that had been edited down for time reasons, I can see him wanting to restore some songs back to original length (was Computer Blue cut down by choice or because it wouldn't fit on the album version?) , or if he had originally planned for a double album, what those songs would be. It makes no sense for Erotic City to not have been on a PR CD reissue by now.

We know he's revisiting old songs with the current band but there's also a lot of concert recordings from the PR tour that should be mixed and released including the video he officially released at the time. I'm sure the video quality's an issue but it would be great to get a concert album out from that era mixing the different cities together. The 1983 concert which was the source for the soundtrack would also be awesome, an audience hearing some of these songs for the first time.

We don't know if Apollonia's visit to the Park was just a visit.

Oh, he'll release it alright. I've got a source who knows someone that saw a poster on a French BBS but I can't share more than some cryptic info for now. (joking)

Prince doesn't have any say on the release of it, I'd gather. The problem is he now holds the masters, someone has to do the work, and both parties involved have to be cool with how the project gets approached. Unless the work was done prior to the contract (as some here think), or the terms were spelled out, then it's meaningless. Prince could have also got bored halfway through and put it on the back burner. Again, unless the contract spelled out a timeline for release, then the project was never put into the pipeline or concrete.

All WB got in exchange for handing Prince his masters early is the right to announce the project publicly, and an exclusive to put it out if it ever happens. I think we as fans misread the entire situation, and WB were mislead on Prince's cooperation... but they won't sue him. It will happen eventually.

I hope he never remasters any of his records. That's just how I feel about that. I don't want to have to readjust my ears to anything. I appreciate the sounds as they stand, and I think you should, too. If you want to have louder volume, get garage band or amadeus and bump up the volume or something.

I lost interest once it became clear this was going to be a half-azzed remaster and more half-azzed new bands and songs. Meaning no box set, no movie remaster, no reunions with anybody, and apparently not even outtakes ("it's the exact same album"). Once I heard that Prince is releasing 3 new albums this year under three different names. Prince is going to leverage the PR release to promote his weaker new material, and less interesting bands and proteges. Prince is going to assume contol of his catalog and then DO NOTHING cool with it. I thought here we go again. Prince doesn't get it. We are set to celebrate 1984 and this guy wants to throwback to the weak-sauce antics of 1994. Nice. Wake me when you're done/ I guess you'll be the only one having fun.

Good. I hope it keeps you fit to be tied. You apparently need to be negative.

I'm happy 2 see, some folks have come to their senses, and see reality...the Purple Rain Remaster isn't gonna happen...ever! It had a chance, but once Art Official Age and ElectrumPlectrum flopped, it was only a matter of time Prince would blame WB and the music industry as a whole for it. It's the same pattern we seen in the 90's, and it's the same pattern we seen when Rave Un2 the Rave Fantastic flopped. Prince turned on Clive Davis. This explains why Prince suddenly shut down all his official social websites like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. This is just who he is, as a person. Thank goodness for bootlegs!
