On his recent tour, Bob Dylan played university campusses and offered discounts for students. Chances are, this man who'll be 72 shortly, crosses over to young people in a way Prince isn't with his $250+ tickets... boxed

Lord have mercy. You are determined to make Dylan a crossover artist. Just by writing it over and over again. (LOL) One more time for you Dylan never crossed over to black audiences and trust me in order to get young people today to see him should give the tickets away.

Get over the $250.00 tickets. I like a lot of things that are expensive. I am not going to get most of them but you know what life goes on. You are actually going on about ticket prices for a tour is over.

I wouldn't see Bob Dylan for FREE. Yeah, I said it. Sounds like a billygoat. Can't get my time back, $ for parking or gas. It's murder on my ears. The lryics, the songs, blah, blah, blah.....then let somebody else sing that shit. It sounds terrible. I'm tired of people running up on Prince about Bob Dylan. Not everyone has to like Bob Dylan. I don't. So what? He sounds awful. IDGAF, it's Friday lol

dude there is no "my business" on a public message board. If you don't want people responding to what you say, stop posting. I had been holding my tongue on your posts because you turn on full drama queen mode when someone criticizes you but your comment to soulalive was uncalled for. If you can't take it don't dish it out. You heap high praise on prince and your other heroes but you do not have many kind words for anyone else. That's sad.

Typical .Org. The first chance some on this board get to misconstrue what Prince does/says they jump on it like a trampoline...just stop!

Although some blacks did enjoy Bob Dylan's music, he was NOT a cross-over artists -- heck, in some circles Prince's music was pushed aside by the black community.

As for the "ageist" comments, get real! All jokes asice, Prince has a point. Younger minds can provide inspiration (and I believe that's what he was saying) "old people" are people who are sedinmentary--set in their ways--and yes when you're creating, those may not be the folks you go to for "inspiration", fact! Especially if you're looking to "connect" with a younger demographic. Geeze, I complain about my friends not wanting to do stuff because their "old" -- but I mean "old" behaving/acting -- they've stopped having fun! (And the rest of the "old people" on this board surely know what I mean.) So calm TFD and let Prince do Prince.

3rdEyeGirl is fresh. Their sound is cool and tight -- can't take that away from them. Prince's involvement with the band might last a long time or short -- time will tell, but as someone else said, rather than criticised, Prince should be applauded for his efforts/venture. The fact is, 3rdEyeGirl is getting exposure as a band, same as other "associated artists" what they do with it in the future, is up to them. The music industry is evolving, bands, vocalists, artists come and go, that's the way it is and that's why artists such as Prince, Madonna, Stones, etc. are "worshiped" because only a few have true staying power.

Its Friday, YaY, go out and get some fresh air!

[Edited 5/17/13 7:51am]

I think people are foolish for worshipping artists. I also think Prince helps these young artists more for himself and how he can benefit by working with them so he gets no applauds from me. Every year he tours he gives interviews that must be done the way he wants it. I think he purposely says things so his words will be misconstrued. It's pretty sad that this is what he must do to stay relevant, get press, and create controversy on prince.org. Certain fans fall for it everytime and quickly go to work trying to decipher and explain to others what they think he meant. Prince is so predictable and he's the one who seems too set in his ways.

I don't totally disagree with you and certainly believe each of us has our own opinion--for that matter, you could be right about Prince's "marketing" tactics, none of us really know. While "worshipping" might be the wrong word (the fact that we're here and we spend time observing someone else's life) indicates there's some level of interest--each of us has to determine to what level. I do applaud him for trying to help artists and if he "gets something out of it" so be it, he wouldn't be doing anything outside of normal business practices--I'm o.k. with that.

As far as recorded music goes, I'm probably as much a dylan fan as I am prince, but live, well, when I saw dylan last, I was one of the last left in the arena, as most had left before he'd even got to the encore.

google Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, march on Washington. How many black people is Dylan performing to there?

'Ballad of a thin man' became an anthem for the Black Panthers.

As a very long time P fan since 79' it is sad the way he does business now. I don't mean from a money and ownership point of view. In that regard he is 50x's smarter and has taught the industry much about the business. I mean all the f-ing build up to release these half-hearted albums. I can't remember the last Prince album I have listened to "front 2 back non-stop", nothing even close. It's like that's ok, this one is ok. skip, skip,ok,done, when is a new one coming out? I realize he has done so much for so long at such a high level. It must be really hard to create new stuff without sounding duplicated. Every 3rd album I might find 1 new "P classic song" but the rest of the songs aren't even "C-side" worthy. Give the old "b-side" songs that are waiting to see the light of day. Do a cover album! FixUrcareerup, work it out with Warners, and give the fans what they want. Give the New Generation of fans what they need and deserve, a full plate of the real Prince. I'll always be a fan, but right now and the last 15 years P has let me down. I think some of you longer time fans understand me. Please don't blame it on age or religion, Prince is fully capable of killin it at the drop of a ___! Back to my chores, a cup of tea, listening to Grand Progression,Creep, and "Sign o the times" front to back.

I can't stand Akon, but it's not surprising that your punk a^# would make those assumptions. I see why you get ripped a new one on here.

Isn't it something because I don't like this barnyard sounding artist (Dylan), you have to make some stereotypical guess about what I do like. Now what if I made a stereotypical guess about you and said, I bet you can't even clap on beat? See how that works?

You are SO far off, it's not even funny. I like artists with vocal talent, and Akon is clearly not one of those people.

With that said, I still don't like Dylan, now it's SATURDAY, and I still don't GAF. And? bored2

Marching with Dr. King, championing civil rights, and writing Jimi's (arguably) most famous song is not the same as "crossing over." Not in the sense that Prince was talking about.

Is this Prince sort of admitting he has run out of fresh ideas, and needs a lifeline from younger bandmembers of whom he can 'steal' new ideas/riffs and use them as the base of his own new songs, just like he often did back in the 80's (before he dumped The Revolution)?
