People criticizing Bream should know he is no Prince novice... you may recall he wrote the liner notes for The Gold Experience.

It was Jim Walsh. (that's okay, I didn't know without checking the booklet either.)

Listen to Jon talking about the interview:

http://minnesota.cbslocal...ks-prince/

Not surprised Prince granted Bream this interview... he needs MPLS press to help promote his show at Myth Live, the 3200 person venue that unsurprisingly has not sold out yet at $289 a pop.

wink

Whoooops! It's been awhile. Neither Walsh nor Bream are novices though.

Jon Bream has covered popular music for the Minneapolis Star Tribune since 1974, giving him the second longest tenure of any current daily newspaper pop-music critic in the United States...

Is this Prince sort of admitting he has run out of fresh ideas, and needs a lifeline from younger bandmembers of whom he can 'steal' new ideas/riffs and use them as the base of his own new songs, just like he often did back in the 80's (before he dumped The Revolution)?

Put down your glass of haterade. He is moving on with new people as this is not 1984. He just got off a tour that received steller reviews and you want him to hook up the Revolution who if they had come up with all of the music back then maybe they would be doing something in the music industry now.

Who is still touring and putting out new music Prince. You have to put up or shut up.

Oh, thanks, I can put up or shut up just because I bring up this observation??? Thank you great purple1968, fascist leader of Prince.org for correcting me. I don't know what I was thinking bringing forward my own opinion... neutral

Well I think the most critical part of that interview/story from Prince's camp's standpont was:

Tickets for Prince's Myth show are $259 each, on sale through Etix and the Myth box office. Call 651-779-6984.

This newly found availability to the MPLS press is out of necessity to push the 6,000 $259 tickets for his MPLS shows.

cool interview.

Looking forward to reading part 2.

Me 2! Can't wait 2 read what he says next. He so full of surprises. His mind is so open & care free now. Prince doesn't care what people think about him like me. It would be so bad ass if he dropped the NPG & changed the code locks on Paisley Park biggrin . But Shelby would be heart broken! But I doubt that will happen. He just added the extensive NPG hornz & put them through intense rehearsals 4 months learning his intricate "MasterPiece" arrangements....

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Dylan might not have crossed over all the way, but he did impact many black musicians and artists at the time. Same could be said about Hendrix, he had to go to the UK to get known more or less and wasn't that popular with black audiences.

Kiran S. nor Julia R. have absolutely NOTHING to do with Prince's success. He has provided them an opportunity to be mentored. There is NO WAY a Twenty - something aged person should be "managing" a 54 year old man. Prince has shoes older than them and been an accomplished, blessed musician before they were born.

Kiran S. and Julia R. have improperly treated Prince's fans and friends. They do not have his best interest at heart but their interest. I highly recommend Prince remove them and hire people he truly can trust with the experience and knowledge who have his best interest in heart and mind. Fresh and new ideas come from innovative and creative people and that includes older people with the experience and knowledge to actually properly execute the fresh new ideas in a manner to properly represent Prince.

I believe part of this interview was taking out of context and is not accurately reflecting Prince's true perspective on older versus young aspects. I have no doubt Prince respects diversity of older more mature ages who have the experience and expertise he is seeking. He is 54 years old almost 55 and he continues to be creative and fresh.

:eyeroll: Here we go. Leave it up to pseudo-intelligent-in-the-know phonies to come stampeding in to sound like they are the ones with the best interest of Prince and not those around him. Give me a break. Don't you think after all these years Prince can decipher who has his best interests and who doesn't? That is why you are here on the internet talking about it, and they are there in his "royal court" with his trust. lol

GoldenParachute: LOL - I think you are making a major false assumption of who has contact or knows Prince. Do not assume he does not have true friends providing their honest support and will speak out publicly. And do not assume who "appears" to have a persons trust because someone is temporarily being provided mentoring. He calls them HIS KIDS. That is not implying trust but implying someone requiring his guidance. And obviously you have an idolism issue because the only "royalty" is Jehovah and Jesus. Prince is merely a man who has been given a gift of talent from God. He is a Christian and out of his kindness of his heart providing people mentoring and opportunities.

Bob Dylan? Meh.

*

Listen, I completely understand Bob Dylan's importance/sginificance in music history. I also get that he is one of the greatest song writers ever.

*

That said, he never really did much for me. I really tried hard to get "into" Dylan and gave him a fair shake. I have had friends give me albums and I have listened to them for months. Still, he just doesn't do it for me. My appreciation of his songs almost always comes from versions of them by other artists.

*

When Prince is saying Dylan "didn't crossover" I don't thinks it's a stretch or disrespect. Dylan IS an acquired taste and, although his themes/ideals, can be universal, his music isn't always. I mean, I cannot dance to Bob Dylan. Can you? Does he make you wanna shake it?

Actually, youre easily tricked. Your arrogance wont let you be humble and that makes you predictable. Which is why I figured if I implied you didnt know Prince, that you would HAVE to imply that you DID. You gave me the answer I was looking for, which really makes everything you say now, (regarding Princes best interest), null. Since no friend I know would ever feel they have to wear a mask just so they can say how they really feel. Imo, you coming here to say these things, is woven from the same cloth of character you accuse him of being around. The real question would be, whatd kiran s and julia r do to you personally for you to attack them?

Makes one wonder if Prince's camp is not pleased.

The ageist remarks are certainly not a good look for an artist whose touring revenue relies heavily on older people who can afford his ticket prices, older people who are most familiar with his music since he has eschewed using the music channels of choice (youtube, itunes, etc.) of the younger people he prefers to hang around.

Of course, by preventing reporters from recording his interviews or taking notes, he can always claim he didn't say that, or his comments were misunderstood, misinterpreted.

Do you have trouble reading!!! He is talking about musicians being young not all the older people in the world or his fans. I honestly think some of you need to stop posting comments about this interview because I am not sure what you reading or why you getting these ideas out of this interview It shows a lack of critical thinking.

Right,

Hendrix isn't really a good example of 'crossover' his music was always accepted by large 'white' & European audiences

He would have to try to 'crossover' to large black audiences

*

It's funny when we talk about 'crossover' it's usually in reference to 'black' & 'white' not latino asian etc

*

Europeans tend to be open to a lot of music, so I wonder if the issue of 'crossover' is an American thing? Latin groups have to deal with that when it comes to mainstream American appeal as well

It's weird, because we are talking about him pushing a more rock oriented vibe, but a lot of the music that I've heard so far, isn't really like that. RnRLove Affair & Screwdriver aren't much different than the similar pallet of songs like Guitar

Right on. I wonder how much of the album will be stuff we haven't heard. Personally, I'd love for "Down" to be on it. the studio version of "2y2d" seems pretty weak, but the live one kicks ass.

Prince Unleashes Perplexingly Grunge 'FixUrLifeUp'

April 15 2013, 4:18 PM ET
by Daniel Kreps

New album 'Plectrum Electrum' reportedly in the works

Prince and his backing band 3rdEyeGirl kick off their Live Out Loud tour tonight in Vancouver, so naturally the Purple One unveiled another new song over the weekend, a grungy self-motivator called "FixUrLifeUp." If Prince hinted at a new sonic direction with his hard-rocking rework of "Let's Go Crazy," "FixUrLifeUp" sees The Artist going full Candlebox. The track still retains the Ric Ocasek-flavored power-pop of Prince's other new songs "Screwdriver" and "Breakfast Can Wait," though; the opening bares a striking resemblance to the Cars' "Just What I Needed."

"FixUrLifeUp" will reportedly feature on Prince's upcoming 35th album Plectrum Electrum.

Stymie

Here we are again: Prince gives another interview where the readers have no idea what he is talking about or are left to figure out their own interpretations because Prince won't allow himself to be recorded.

It's spoke of on the Org and the people who don't understand or have their own interpretation of what he said are basically told to STFU, Prince is the best, yadda, yadda.

Prince, like in interviews past, will not clarify anything he says so he is left to leave himself open to any negative criticism from the hardest of the hardcore fanbase. People will say he doesn't care what his fans think but come on, of course he does.

Still holding out for the day that Prince talks like a normal person. I'm not remotely interested in trying to figure out what this interview was about.

I don't think it's very likely that those tracks will be on the album. They obviously don't feature the band, and as you say, they aren't very rock & roll.
