It sounds like he is just frustrated with the issue constantly coming up. Right now, he seems to be heading into a new productive period with Superconductor and some of the other new material we've seen lately. He wants to get that out to the fans. Instead, we're mainly interested in stuff he did 30 years ago. It's like when the former Beatles were trying to have solo careers in the 1970s and all anyone wanted to ask about was a possible Beatles reunion.

I can understand that. I would also not want to redo any work that I did 30 years ago, because a handful of people want that.

But it's just a few people posting here that don't want to deal with change. I think there are more people interested in his new projects.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Dont give me that shit. Every artist got remasters..decades ago. It isnt out of the ordinary or unreasonable for remasters to be a topic of main discussion in 2013.

Hell, even my grandma got remasters and she aint even an artist. My lab done got remasters. Tiny Tim got remasters. Starland Vocal Band..them dudes who did afternoon delight..they got remasters.

So, because other people have remastered, P is obliged to do the same??

Great post and pretty much agree. However I am going to be VERY hesitiant with shelling out any more $$ for ANOTHER website. That last one (Lotusflower) was SUCH a scam.

That probably is on the back of the mind of most fans.

An online shop where one can buy cd's or songs seems to serve everybody's wallet the best.

Richer people can purchase al they want, including the luxury sets and those with less money can buy a few songs they really like. And they can always refer to the site if somebody wants to buy them a present.

And hey, if he want to throw concerts in Paisly park, many people will be happy. Just not the ones overseas, who have to buy airfare, hotel costs etcetera.

All these folks talking shit about no need for remasters, thinking they are unreasonable, why should he return to the past, oh he doesnt need to follow how other artists care about remasters, will be the first ones to pick them up if and when they are available.

Fuckin hypocrites. But I know why.

I really think rationalizing with Prince about why he's doing what he does is like rationalizing with a woman who's willing to pay 1,000 dollars for a purse if she has a 9-to-5 job and lives in an apartment.

It's a dead end conversation.

Sometimes, we just have to explain away his stances by admitting he's a douchebag. Healing starts there. Prince is a douchebag.

For the first and only time ever, I feel comfortable using this icon:

Some sanity from Mr7 over on Dr Funkenberry. Nice to see some sense posted in a clear and succinct fashion, whoever he is:

Mr7January 10th, 2013 - 10:04

Just create a pay-per-download site and charge per song or album.

Simply create polls and feedback for what the majority of fans would like to hear and then provide it if appropriate/possible.

Make the site and transaction as clear, straightforward and transparent as possible. I don’t think many fans will risk investing financially in a fan-operated venture or pooling finances communally before any new material is made available. Nor do I think any other pre-payment or subscriptions are particularly viable given past events.

Simply upload the new music for a reasonable price and most will pay the price. But the majority will need to see what they are getting first, before parting with any cash.

Amen to that!

Not sure if this has been brought up yet(I haven't read all the posts yet), but in regards to a possible website with the ability to purchase and download music, and the ability to purchase this on physical media, this is being done by Warner Bros. now with their catalog of older films(some, not all). You purchase a copy of a movie and they mail you a DVD. Prince can use this model if the website is indeed the direction he's going. Give people the option of how they want their music.

Again, this is just an idea, and only an idea based on heresay of a website.

I don't agree with him though. Prince tried this model before. He made the music available and people still downloaded it for free.

So funny reading posts about ppl saying they're too old to travel to PP, come on!! No-ones too old to get into a car or bus or plane & travel. I'm 27 & a huge fan of Prince and will pay any amount of $ for a chance to see him live even for 5 minutes. Only problem is I live in Australia so we only get to see him once every 10 years. If u live in America u HAVE to get to PP & see what he has to offer. U may not get this chance again!
on the other hand I don't understand what P was saying about a Prince website run by fans...isn't that what prince.org is? Maybe he can participate with us here through this website?
pray Peace in the House of Prince.

having seen him several times i am happy with that. Now to see him in a small club or at PP is a cool idea...but I am not going to fly there (I sure as hell am not driving or taking a bus no 2000 miles to see him. Now if he was better known for doing his actual songs (and more diversity to set lists) and no covers and no guests singing their songs and no over indulging jams that go nowhere) I would be more inclined.

Yeah, come back and read this thread in 15-20 years when you've matured and your life circumstances will most likely have changed, i.e. career/job responsibilities, finances (mortgages, more bills, etc), children and family responsibilities that you can't just abandon for a few days on a whim. Not to mention any health issues which, unfortunately, many people develop as they age that will impact what you can do or how much extra money you've got to spare to fly off and see Prince play live 'for 5 minutes'.

I totally understand your current enthusiasm and why, at this point, you think there's no one who "can't" just hop on a plane or whatever and travel X distance and pay any amount to see Prince - when I was in my 20s, I didn't quite grasp what time and aging and future responsibilities were going to entail, and how drastically one's life changes even just between your 20s and 40s and how those changes affect to what extent you can indulge your Prince interest (or obsession. whatever).

But hey, maybe in your late 30s, early 40s and on, you'll not be married, have kids, a house, bills, a job you can't just take time off from with a day's notice, health problems to consider. I do know some 'older' fans who fit that description so it's possible. smile

It does bother you. It bothers you to the point that you keep commenting on it.

You say you treat others as you want to be treated. You post gossip and mean things about celebrities you don't like. If someone has less than glowing thing to say about Prince, you're ready to rip them a new one. You are just getting back what you put out.

I find that the main ones who call themselves positive here are also ready to rip someone apart if they don't agree with them.
