Not to defend any part of this fiasco, but the countdown clock is a boilerplate feature of the Spreecast site when an event is scheduled. It's not something Funkenberry or the host did special. For instance, I'm a Slingbox enthusiast and when 2 new models came out last year someone hosted a discussion about it with one of the executives at Sling Media and there was a countdown clock before that as well.

It will be a great year regardless of this rant cuz some fans don't care or take it that seriously even if you are right about the screw up.

That is true Wonder! I have a healthy family...stable career...and tons of blessings from above. Hell, I'm just happy to see a 2013 (FU Myans!) But again...my bad. Should have clarified. In the P world, it blows! In the REAL world, not too shabby indeed!

Wasnt there some big countdown clock?

yeahthat

You always do some kind of countdown clock for a common-or-garden discussion.

What a lame excuse by the Doctor.... rolleyes

ALL spreecasts have a countdown. All of them. That may have been the only one you attended but all have a countdown even if someone was discussing gardens. lol

My answer would be the NPGMC model which was fun while it lasted or even the Crystal Ball one.

Neither was that good. NPGMC didn't live up to their contractual obligations most of the months, Cb was a disaster from start to finish.

Aside from technical issues and then packaging and shipping issues, pre-selling Crystal Ball and only pressing it once there were X number of orders worked.

NO IT DID NOT. That was just BS to get a chain interested in carrying the set.

How bloody hard is it to look up what it actually costs to manufacture and mail a CD? Hint: not much. And if it is still too much hassle, guess what? There are companies that will handle it all for you: online ordering, payment options, manufacturing, shipping and handling. Thousands of independent artists have been doing this for years, even decades. IT IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

I'd like him to pre-sell a limited number of his CDs like he's done in the past (GoldNigga, Crystal Ball) and at a price point that he feels is reasonable and will be fair to fans. He wants to sell a set like Crystall Ball again at $50, I'd buy it.

Hell no. CB was a total rip-off. 3 discs of barely 40 minutes of music? EDITS of released music? Bogus REMIXES?

I can't believe that people actually expected an announcement about a major remaster campaign to be made last night. Prince obviously doesn't own all of his remasters yet, and even if the reversion period is 30 years rather than 35, he doesn't yet own Purple Rain, which is the big kahuna. If a deal had been made to release remasters this year, Warner would be involved in the promotion and it would be much, much bigger than this little Spreecast. Also, remember that Prince held a press conference at the Apollo Theater just to announce the Welcome 2 America tour.

To me, the idea of new concerts at Paisley Park is actually exciting news, as I missed the earlier celebrations and would try to attend the new ones if I could (which is what I said in my few seconds on camera). I think people should be glad that Prince is making an effort to communicate to the small group of hardcore fans that still follow the org on a day-to-day basis.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

The most bootlegged person besides Prince is Springsteen. Springsteen doesn't care about bootlegs. Springsteen tours about 10 times as much as Prince does, so there are at least 10 times as many Springsteen bootlegs out there than Prince bootlegs.

And yet, Springsteen has no problem selling out just about every show he plays.

The lesson? Quit obsessing about bootlegs and just do what you do. If you give the fans what they want, more than enough of them are going to pay for it to make you wealthier beyond your wildest dreams.

You want to put bootleggers out of business? Sell CDs or DVDs of your concerts. Will some fans put them on the internet for others to download? Sure, but at least in this scenario the artist is getting some money, whereas with a bootleg release the artist gets absolutely no money.

Other than that, carry on!

I really think rationalizing with Prince about why he's doing what he does is like rationalizing with a woman who's willing to pay 1,000 dollars for a purse if she has a 9-to-5 job and lives in an apartment.

It's a dead end conversation.

Sometimes, we just have to explain away his stances by admitting he's a douchebag. Healing starts there. Prince is a douchebag.

Please post the "Prince Hates His Fans" banner lol

I dont have any emotional ties to anything but my babygirl and pups..Im not expecting anything.

However, I do express dissappointment with the news of princes attitude towards legacy stuff: new dvd's and remasters

Im not hanging on to hear news of bootlegs or remasters line etc but I def wasnt thrilled to hear reports that the new information entailed that there will be NO REMASTERS OR DVDS.

I'm just bored of Prince's paranoia over the internet and go-it-alone attitude that makes him seem like some recluse that's relegated most times to the fringes of pop culture.

Maybe for every cool thing that happens, he does some weird shit like this. Hence: Carnegie Hall tribute show = 3rdeyegirl fiasco

I didn't hear that. Only speculation. By this point in his life, Prince only trusts Prince with the stewardship of his art.

As I've always said, Prince fans need to realize they are not stockholders in PRN Enterprises. (I know you don't feel this way.)

Aside from the LotsuFlower fuckup of a site, I can't say that I have not gotten my money's worth / return on investment from Prince in all my years being a fan. I don't owe him shit. And he don't owe anything. Not even remasters or dvds. Unless I pay for them.

I suspect when he wants to engage us / his audience with something to offer, he will. I wouldn't put remasters out of the mix because you never know. My guess is he's (always) looking for the way to do it that he considers most self-serving. And there is nothing wrong with that.

The bottom line, without the fans Prince would be making music in his basement. He is where he is because of us. He wasn't just born a millionaire.

Prince just doesn't want to give up control of his legacy to anyone. He wants to pocket & collect all the funds 4 everything. He wants to manage, dictate & control his whole brand. Whatever happen to him @ The Wb he doesn't want to go through that again. They must have really hurt him. He is not playing. Its his way or the highway....

I understand his frustration. Its his! this is his bread & butter. He has no offspring to leave his legacy to. So he has to make a lot of what he has last until his last days. So many black entertainers die broke. Like MJ. There is no way he should have been broke in a million years. He shouldn't have had to commit to 50 shows at the 02 Arena to get back financially stable. That is sad to me. Prince is not going out like that. That is why he is so stubborn.

I also think the bottom line is this.....

Prince fans are really difficult to please sometimes. "Why's he wearing that?" "Who do you like better? Sheila or Vanity?" "He can't achieve Purple Rain heights anymore, blah, blah, blah, etc etc etc" On top of that Prince is unpredictable andnutty at times. Plus he never offers any explanation for his actions so when he does something that most of us don't like, all hell breaks loose.

It's like an abusive cyclical relationship.

If he acted like a normal person sometimes, released music with a specific date instead of making us go thru hoops just to get it (which we all fall for everytime), these long ass threads wouldn't exist.

Bowie, REM and Springsteen all own their own brands. They own their masters yet they do things a lot more organized and respectful of their fans.
