Old School jammin' is nice, but: the more Prince rehearses his 30 year old songs the less he will grow as an artist. Another big problem of the last decade!

Yeah, some really hideous screaming (a la the Trojan Horse Forever In My Life) would be such an improvement.

You named ONE song, ONE performance versus practically every fuckin' night and every performance with Shelby "Put yo' hands up" J. Not even close.

So you've seen Shelby with Prince "every fuckin' night," have you? I doubt that.

I've actually seen Shelby with Prince several times and she's been just fine. The times that he has her (or the girls) sing an actual song are usually the times he does a wardrobe change. Frankly, it's nice that the band keeps going - better that than leaving the stage empty for as long as it takes him to change and/or grab a drink.

Bonnie's caterwauling totally ruined several Small Club songs. I don't mean to speak ill of the dead, but I was never a fn. shrug

I've heard tons of boots, on top of people's reports from many, many shows that Shelby does that every fuckin' night. I have yet to hear such a complaint about Bonnie except for this ONE show. Plain and simple. You may like to put your hands up all the time, for all I know, so maybe that's why you think it's fine, but it really ain't. lol

I'm not sure what Prince's message to the other bands is, but I'm guess "I can do these songs better than you". Probably more as a little joke than anything serious.

Annoyingly the original Ice Cream Castles had the chant "Let's do something. Let's do something soon", but that seems to be missing here ! Shame.

So if he would free an unreleased - new - jam instead, of the same funkiness, he would do even better.

Still: thanks for the mp3.

Or maybe just maybe....

Prince is playing this song as a precursor to the new Prince CD that features members from the Family that Jam and Lewis will be producing.

Once the CD is released they all plan on a world tour with The Time & The Family taking turns opening up for Prince.

The concert will end with an all out Jam with all the members of each band playing together on the new funk workout classic from the new CD....

It was only a dream.

I think both the rehersal jams posted so far (Dance Electric last week and Mutiny/Ice Cream... this week) were enjoyable. Especially since for me none of these three songs were ever huge favorites of mine and they were free.

The hullabaloo over it not sounding exactly like it did in 1986 is absurd. Sorry but being a long time fan I know for a fact Prince has re-worked most all of his songs over the years for concert performances, so nothing new here. It's just nice not to hear "Raspberry Baret/Kiss" for the gazillionith time.

As for Shelby. Well at least she's not singing off key for entire songs like some other mega hyped former band members. talk to the hand

Word. Not to disrespect the dead, but Boni Boyer often sounded like a Mavis Staples reject with a dog's squeaky toy caught in her throat. And, while Rosie was often great (I LOVE 'Closer than Close'), she was somewhat one-dimensional.

Shelby is a super talent. Her voice is fierce, and her stage energy is uplifting.

Ya know... the jam is alright, same as the Dance Electric jam. But the more I think about it the more it's bugging me that he played all the same stuff he's been playing for nearly a decade at all the recent US shows and then breaks out some jams that folks have been asking for forever when he's going to Australia.

Hey Prince. Remember 2004? That tour was in America. That was our money. Remember that Vegas residency? Yeah, our cash. You remember that last album? You know, the one you didn't even release in America? What's the deal, dude? lol

Hey, Prince was all over America on Welcome 2 America. He played New York, New Jersey, North & South Carolina, California, and Washington. smile

As far as all these songs played on this tour? Many of the arrangements were kept as simple as possible, and many times (Like Mountains for example) the girls did most of the singing. On some (A Million Days for example) Prince is mainly mumbling the lyrics. Dance Electric sounded ok but was shocked at how juvenile that stupid whistle sounded, and it was a bit heavy on the girls. Mutiny was almost as good, but still sounded a little flat, and that annoying Siren just showed me Prince has to screw up a good thing these days.

Exactly! Prince feeds off of her energy. She hypes him up. She is the second leader of his band. Like Lil Wendy use 2 b & the defunct Sheila E.....

Sweet Jebus, this is one gigantic pile of dung. Oh, those painful "Mutiny" chants by those untalented backup singers.

Go compare this to the version on the recently freed boot of one of Prince's 1986 New York concerts.

Last time I checked, the calender said it was 2012, not 1986.

Hilarious. You do not what year those songs were released, right?

Yeah, it's 2012. And here's Prince rehearsing a 25+ year old mash-up, and ending up with something so rubbish it's embarrassing.

I point to the 1986 performance because it's awesome, not because I want Prince to reproduce that performance note-by-note.

Not to mention that this does sound like an insult towards the two bands he sent it too. All it lacks is a "Punk of the month" chant.

Don't like it, fine.

Yet you seem to have some issues with me not liking it and voicing my opinion.

"But it's free" -- so, does that mean we're required to like it?

"It's a rehearsal" -- oh please, this will sound exactly like this live, because this is as good as his band gets. Listen to boots from the past 15 years: jams instead of songs. Listen to boots of the past couple of years: same jams, but now enhanced by shouty back-up singers.
