Let's look at this more...Take superstars like Madonna, Janet, etc. you don't see them allowing a background singer to over shadow them. Madonna fans would be mad as hell if that happened. Hell even Michael (may he rest in peace) would allow folks to sing, but not take over the show eek

can you show me evidence of where/when/how Shelby took over a show, because as I said, I've been to three Welcome 2 America concerts and I saw no such thing.

now if you simply dont like Shelby and think her voice doesnt mix well thats a different story.

This "rehearsal jam" is meh. I really, really like the Dance Electric rehearsal outtake--the best part of that one, imo, is the awesome guitar solo at the beginning. Mutiny/Ice Cream Castles is just an average funk workout. The only thing I like about this new one is that Prince didn't sing Ice Cream Castles. That song is probably my least favorite song by The Time.

As far as this track being a dis at fDeluxe and O7, I really hope not. It might be. And if so, that is really immature by Prince.

Every show I've ever seen and heard-she does a bit much. Just last night I was listening to Prince sing Which Way Is Up and as soon as I started to enjoy it here comes Shelby with her "loud" vocals-just threw everything off. Seriously, I remember loving Shelby's voice singing Misty Blue-it is beautiful, but when I pay to see Prince I wanna hear Prince. Chances to see Prince in concert are few and far between for some of us.

I think as a solo singer her voice would work well, but as a background vocalist it's too much.

Okay so you don't like her as a backup singer for Prince, which is fine. But that has nothing to do with her taking over a show because that never happened.

I think we're on the same page. Just from a concert standpoint she is not center stage, but I see how some feel that her voice is a bit too strong as a backup singer.

OK...

1st thought...This, a friggin jam session of old songs, is what all the hype via twitter, DrStunk, etc has been about? Good lawd...boring.

2nd - I listened. And got exactly what I was expecting...a tired new retread version of a classic into a concert jam. NEXTTTTTTTT

3rd - where's the real news...When you dropping NEW music P?

p.s. but dont get me entirely wrong...This will be fonktastic LIVE! wildsign

i had the same problem with rosie gaines. boni during 87-88 was just perfect. i loved her raspy, smokey feel, simmering but rarely boiling over.

though to be fair i don't see why anybody should feel malice to any of the band members. they do as they told n they don't challenge prince's ego. i'm a window cleaner that has spent years developing my tuneless, unmelodic whistle. if prince paid me a penny over 500 quid a week i'd gladly join the band and slaughter purple rain et al by waving a flag and whistling over the harmonies.

the buck stops entirely with His Royal Blandness.

I wish everyone who feels they know what Prince should and shouldn't be doing musically would put together a band themselves and show us what we're all supposedly missing! That's the problem on here too many critics with the answers to the supposed problems of this mans 30 plus year career. If you all know what's is and what isn't funky then put you money where your mouth is and drop your CD and blow us all away. Until then it's all just blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah blahblah .

there is no need 4 anyone 2 put their own cd or band together 2 state the obvious what's missing. now i will say that i didn't see fdeluxe when they came 2 NYC recently but i belive u did. their version of mutiny was WAY FUNKIER and more HARD HITTING then this. but that's what missing in prince's current state, the funk! the use of keyboards and or keyboard players that aren't hitting the mark. seriously look up any previous version of mutiny prince has done and listen 2 this version back 2 back and u can tell the difference. but my taste of funk maybe different from yours and others. i can just tell what's missing.

So if you know what's missing what's to stop you from putting it in there with your own lineup? And when i say 'you' I mean anybody who 'knows what's missing'. What's to stop 'you' from putting it in there and showing Prince how it's supposed to be done then? If you have a specific idea of what is wrong with something then shouldn't you have a good idea on how to fix it?

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I've actually seen Shelby with Prince several times and she's been just fine. The times that he has her (or the girls) sing an actual song are usually the times he does a wardrobe change. Frankly, it's nice that the band keeps going - better that than leaving the stage empty for as long as it takes him to change and/or grab a drink.

Bonnie's caterwauling totally ruined several Small Club songs. I don't mean to speak ill of the dead, but I was never a fan. shrug

is it so wrong that i think the fact that shelby is bald and generally odd looking does add to not enjoying her? especially when you see something live, visuals do play some kind of role

actually, i think that's part of her appeal. she's not some generic dime a dozen lady.

she's got her own style and that's pretty cool.

i just don't want anyone taking that much prime time at a prince show. wether it's

shelby or larry or andy or whomever.

i'm paying to see prince perform HIS songs. if prince wants us to be exposed to the

talents of other people, he should put them on as his opening act.

there'd be absolutely no problem with shelby doing a 30 minute set before his show

starts. or larry (well, i wouldn't mind never seeing larry live again, but you know),

or andy etc.

but when prince hits the stage, it better be prince all the way. some nice backups or

a short cameo, ok, but that's all.

i'd pick prince and an acoustic guitar, just strumming and singing acoustic versions

of his songs all night over any kind of show, no matter how spectacular, that has a

whole plethora of guests and mc's etc going on.

yeahthat ...and now back to this... music

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

cause wendy and lisa would tell prince when shit was whack or it wasn't working. sonny would tell him as well. no one in this current band has the balls 2 tell him when shit is whack nor any of his personal team.

if u wanna take it a step further in his business aspects, why do u really think grafitti bridge took 3 years to get done? it was because his management team knew the script was bullshit.

Kinda shitty of him to do - I imagine that he knows full well that they're expecting reunion talk or something like that and he just jerks them around.
