Compassion really is special. I don't even have a drink in me. Great, exhilerating middle eight which turs the song on its head. It actually sounds like Prince, no-one else could do it. Twists and turns, madness, a woman's laugh at the end.

Beginning Endlessly - the angular synth riff you've all already heard, triple-tracked vocals on the verses, again a wonderfully unexpected oriental-style middle eight which sets the song alight with multi-tracked operatic eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees in the endlessleeeeeee. Really fucking retro-futuristic. Mad, bongo lyrics about stardust, exploring anatomy and OH OH OH chant that actually doesn;t sounds cheesy. Loving this track.

@#23...Keep those thoughts coming!!!!lol

There is a cd called 1999, go listen to it already.

What the fuck do you care? We're all curious about how it sounds. Stop being rude and go find something else to do.

So now that more than a few of you have heard it...how about some more details?

Better than expected? Same as before? Better melodies? More focused? Help us out here....cool

It's certainly a return to the quirky Prince. smile

Now that's what I want to hear! I dig quirky Prince. cool

Future Soul Song is obviously his attempt to recreate Crucial, it has all the same elements including the explosive guitar solo. It really is lush, epic and beautiful. 'This is the future...sha la la la laaa'

Sorry if these wee reviews seem shit and unexpansive - I'm just jotting down shite while listening to the tracks. I'll post a fuller thing tomorrow along with everyone else, I suppose. I actually am quite verbose and articulate. smile

Sticky Like Glue is like a late 70's stripped down discoish funk track with a cool doubletracked vocal until the chorus - then it gets Princey with a nursery-rhymeish melody which works really well 'sweati each other/sticky like glue'. WARNING - includes a rap, but it's actually fun and tongue-in-cheek.

Hehe, just noticed that the word "Laydown" is written on the back cover in really faint scrolled letters, in the background behind the tracklist.

Favorite tracks so far are...........Beginning Endlessly, Sticky Like Glue, Everybody Loves Me, and Laydown.

Everybody Loves Me sounds like early Revolution to me. If i were to play a non Prince fan, Controversy, 1999, or even Dirty Mind and tag on Everybody Loves Me on the end, i do not think they would be able to tell it came from an album released in 2010.

Am i waffling now?

I need sleep....hehe.

Maybe for the first time. He knows it's not a seismic work, but it's certainly a step up from recent releases. Like I say, It's really a love letter to himself. I'm not complaining about that.

I've been wondering if "Stand Up & B Strong" might actually be "Laydown". Do the lyrics contain that phrase, that you've noticed?

Laveux is what you all heard in the sample - only it had a really out-there middle eight that threatens to turn the groove on its head - but the it kicks back in and you can't help but smile at the wee man revelling in his own retrofunk. It's pretty cool, but shamlelessly Time material. I really could hear Morris day ghosting along.

Act Of God sounds nowt like the live snippet. Probably the biggest sleeper I've heard. Gospelly chorus, hard funk groove, heavy heavy bass, fucking excellent actually. Only halfway through as I write this...finished now, ghostly backing chants led it to its end 'call it what you want, its an act of god'. Is it fuck Prince, but TUNE.

Well judging by the comments I'm pretty sure I'll like it. And I'm sure the "haters" around here will have their say. Whatever, at the end of the day it matters what I like and what moves me. Period. cool

Walk In Sand's verse really does sound like a Prince-era ballad, but the chrous shifts the groove to a breathy, beautfull melody and multitracked vocal middle-eight which sounds really, well, nice. He does that windchime soundeffect though, which I HATE. Fishes with a wee flute and segues directly into Sea Of Everything - a typically Prince sex ballad with a delicious smoky vocal. If the lyirc 'I wander the wilderness searching for a kiss' offends, skip directly to the next track.
