I don't see it anywhere online, but I look forward to hearing it. Personally, I'm just extremely thankful that Cause & Effect and Hot Summer, two of the worst Prince songs to come along in ages, aren't on this album.

Prince Primes Pirates For Huge Download Fest With 20Ten

Prince Primes Pirates For Huge Download Fest With 20Ten

2010This week will see the release of Prince’s new album. The ten-song offering which kicks off with a track called ‘Compassion’ will not be available in bricks and mortar record stores.

In an interview with the UK’s Daily Mirror tabloid – which will be giving the album away for free in a covermount promotion this week – Prince explains why the likes of iTunes and other digital music stores won’t be getting the track either.

“The internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it,” he explained.

“The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you,” he added.

While the album is also set to be given away with other newspapers, such as Het Nieuwsblad and De Gentenaar in Belgium and Rolling Stone magazine in Germany, contrary to claims by Prince, 20Ten will also be available for free via thousands of Internet outlets.

Sometime soon, probably before the planned release date of July 10th, 20Ten will be all over BitTorrent, Gnutella, dozens of one-click hosters, Usenet and file-sharing blogs worldwide and not one of them will have paid Prince the kind of advance he expects but didn’t receive from iTunes and other digital stores. With nowhere else but from a newspaper in limited numbers to get the album, Prince fans will turn to the web in their millions. eeklol

At this point in the final paragraphs one would normally sum up the news. “Prince is crazy for slamming the Internet and digital devices” or maybe “Prince is a hero for giving his music away” but in this case it’s quite difficult.

“I really believe in finding new ways to distribute my music,” he told The Mirror and strangely, by completely shunning the Internet with the release of 20Ten, what Prince has done is given this “outdated” network a golden opportunity to distribute his music on a scale worthy of an artist of his stature.

So where can people download this album right now? Well, it seems, absolutely nowhere. Despite the fact that almost 100% of albums leak weeks before their planned release date, 20Ten remains stubbornly offline with just 4 days to go.

So far for me, the music is cool, but the lyrics still dont do it for me. For instance, if on Future Soul Song he just said, "This is the future" and left off "soul song" it would have been PERFECT (at least the chorus anyway)

OK... is it me or is he whispering lyrics in this album? confused Some of the music has a retro sound, especially "Compassion" (think "Sexuality" with different lyrics and no falsetto and female background voices).

My take.

Much better than MplSound, it is a fun record, I agree that it sounds quickly thrown together, It shares virtually nothing with Lousflow3r, and in some ways very different to MplSound.(read not cringe-worthy)

I'm still trying to decide if i would recommend this to vainandy because I kinda like "Laydown" but it may be too "shit-hop" for him, but overall i think i would.

This album is not really my taste but it is not bad at all. The Ballads are the the best produced tracks.

While i thought Lotusflow3r had new instant Prince classics in "Dreamer" and "Colonized Mind" nothing here is of that caliber.

Other than the slow tracks, the production has a "look mom" "homemade" feel, it may be time for Prince to take a refresher course in production at the local college if he intends to do everything himself, i really think it would help a lot.

The standouts for me.

Beginning Endlessly - The most creative and impressive one to me of the bunch.

Future Soul Song/Sea of Everything/Walk in The Sand - Very nice well produced slow ballads.

Act Of God - I really liked what he did on the live mashup with "Forever in My life" in Berlin, it had a more soulful feel, on this one i kept hearing "melody cool" but its ok

Laydown - a 90's "Days of Wild" feel, I dont feel the "most modern" that some have mentioned. I like it but it sounds dated to me, but ist ok.

What i didn't like?

Ok I said it was different that MplSound, well maybe i lied a little. "Everybody Loves Me" and "Compassion" would fit t better on that album than anything from the 80's

.....and to me Lavaux still likes the Pointers sisters "Automatic", so with that i will paraphrase that song to sum my review.

"Everybody Loves Me" sounds like '80s Prince doing Gary Numan and A Flock of Seagulls...with vocoderized vocals I think... confused

Thank GOD for the homemade feel. It sure beats that over-produced glossy sheen that has coated alot of his recent work.

Yeah I definitely get that from the album...

Listening to "Future Soul Song", it's nice. Kinda sounds like the offspring of "Future Baby Mama" with the Linn drums from "The Beautiful Ones" lol
