The Housequake Website

I keep seeing fans refer to that now defunct website and claim that it was the greatest thing in the world. What did it have that this site does not?I never got to see said website before it was closed years ago and I have always wondered what could possibly make it seem better than this site? Not trying to start any kind of war over which site is better I just want to know if it had anything that was super spectacular or the like.

Some one fill me in damn it!

.What did it have that this site does not?

In the beginning it was freeer.
Less foreign, imported restrictions.

I never got to see said website before it was closed years ago and I have always wondered what could possibly make it seem better than this site?

This site is at times very close to where HQ was just before it went offline. Yes, I mean the atmosphere and ways things are handled. Most of you won't notice this, probably too busy with other stuff.

It was a really great site. I feel that Housequake as a whole was a little more critical of Prince's latest albums. I used to go on there almost exclusively. But after they were shut down I (and I'm guessing about 99% of the other quakers) jumped ship to the .Org

That's the story pretty much

It WASN'T the greatest thing in the world. It was actually quite boring compared to the org, and the types of threads allowed were nowhere near as colorful as on the org.

That being said, it had 100 x 100 avatars (moving gifs allowed), a vast and interesting unauthorized music video section, a decent image library, and a more European presence.

When it shut down half those crazy fuckers ended up here and polluted this place.

I hate you people. fuck off.

Just more freedom to post things over there?A little restriction is good and I haven't seen any instance of mods over stepping boundaries without really good cause.I adore the org.

The atmosphere was different over there.
More tame. (not Tame the user), and more congenial.

Folks were there to celebrate Prince moreso than debate him, though debates did take place. They were more 'civil'.

I found it quite sterile and boring. The general discussion forum over there was nowhere even close as entertaining as it is here. And unless I'm crazy, the activity on the threads wasn't as great, though the Prince themed threads did o.k.

Well if the content like music files and or pictures were just that damn good I could understand if the forums were slow.

It was the only reason I went there--the videos.

It was quite restrictive compared to the org. I posted a thread about eating ass and the damned thing got locked within minutes.

On the org, it would at least have gotten a thousand views and 200 replies.

Some people just need to chill out and remember that some threads are for fun.Was it a children friendly site or something?

A child friendly Prince site.

It was akin to that one party Tricky and Christopher Tracy went to "BEFORE" Christopher brought the boombox.

But was stated that video section pre-removal was badass.

I guess you didn't notice the deleted threads (left and right) on the Org yet.
Also the bans without explanation nor communication, the vague organisational structure if you want something to be done, the corporately enforced restrictive rules w.r.t. posting about certain items, etc, etc.
It is very close to what HQ was in the final stages.

housequake.com had the best Prince researchers and a group of people who would scan their rare Prince pictures (I've hardly seen any scans since HQ closed). For Prince content it was the best.

Whoa.I had no idea that any content was still there at this point.Since all of the people who left HQ came here why don't they just reupload their stuff here?Apparently while I was out Prince decided to be a complete ass about his musical rights and threatened/sued a ton of people.

I guess there is just never enough.

Is there some section of the gallery just for Prince's former stage costumes?

Much of the Gallery was removed when Prince went apeshit and wanted videos of babies dancing to his music and photos of Symbol tattoos removed from existence.

I remember Websherriff came after member's personal Photobucket-accounts, which resulted in the removal of all Prince pictures from said accounts.
It was beyond belief and turned the gallery into a mess.

I was one of the "lucky" people to receive such an email from Photobucket, telling me I had to remove all P-pics, on demand of Mr. WS. confused

He was actually successful in getting people to take picture of their personal tattoos off of this site? For goodness sakes they were images of Prince and his symbol not something like Nazi insignia!Free advertisement! What was he thinking? That making himself look like an ass would generate controversy and business for him?Yes but NOT when its fighting with your own fans.

^ I had Prince photos removed from PhotoBucket (mostly album covers), but I got no email, just the usual "violation of content rules" gif. It was weird which pix got pulled and which stayed. It only lasted a couple of months or so.

Websheriff is to be ignored.
If they mean real business then bring on the court case.
Because it never came to a court case this perverted idea about images of his persona still lingers on in P's head as being right.

I think the Org admins just took a proactive stance and said "fuck it" and removed pretty much everything that wasn't fan shot.

The mods only delete threads here when it goes against org rules.
The rules are clearly posted and folks are just too stupid to understand them though.

People are always complaining that my threads never get locked (which isn't true--some of them do get locked). But it's not about the material being stupid or offensive so much as the material violating site rules. Just stay within site rules ,and everything is fine.

However, on housequake a thread could get shut down just because the mod didn't like it.
