Back in the mid 80's, it was a solid percentage. Then, by the late 80's, Susan Rogers mentioned that number had fallen to about 1 in every 10 was a quality track. Prince would think he had this great song, invite someone from WB over to check it out, and they didn't like it at all ("The Line").

Now that ratio must be 1 out of every 50. Especially when you consider Bria Valente and Larry Graham are the people Prince probably "checks" tracks with before releasing it. They're gonna tell him it's great no matter what it is. I think Prince should check all tracks with me before release, and I would guarantee a 12 track, 4 star album. That's unless every track he's recording now sounds like Purple and Gold or Cause and Effect. If that was the case, I'd have him focus on releasing old tracks or at the very least, some live CDs.

The song is explaining where he is at - and its that he's no longer the superstar, he's grown up. But, the way that is put across seems like he feels he should have learned that sooner in life. And, after all this reflection, we get a verse telling us to be more positive etc etc so that we have fewer regrets when we all, eventually, grow up. Its a mature song, fitting for its subject matter.

I think it is a little shallow musically, especially during the verses at the beginning, but I really like what he was doing musically during the auto-tune verse and I really like when his guitar comes in towards the end.

Lyrically, I just can't relate. I like to really sing a Prince song like I'm living it and I just can't feel this one. I still love you, though, Prince!

Thanks P for releasing a song & allowing The Current to play it, whether or not people dig it, we have something new 2 listen to! With that said, I'm on my 6th listen & I dig it more with each listen. I wanna know who's playing the drums because they holding it down! If it wasn't so damn early I'd play along to it on mine, lol. I like the message of the song & it's kew to hear him reflecting. The music is jamming too! I really like the "I am here, where r u" line, the line sticks out to me, fits perfectly with the song. So all and all, I'm feeling this one!

Yea, I don't wanna slag the guy but I don't like the song. I'm hearing the comparisons made by others to Rock N Roll Is Alive and United States of Division...with maybe a pinch of the second half of Mad. It just sounds like a bombastic arrangement built around a merely average song. The playing is always top notch, especially the guitar. However, stripped of the arrangement, the actual song is boring. The production is also very dated sounding. The "Ladies and Gentleman" and the crowd chanting...it's all like an exercise in overproduction. A good song doesn't need all the bells and whistles, figuratively, and it Prince's case, LITERALLY.

I don't mind the lyrics. In spots it sounds like he's being honest and personal, which I appreciate. Is he really saying, "Made in the image of God and the Lamb?" I'm hearing, "Made in the image of cause and effect."

Also, the "I am here...where are you" I believe was taken from the 7/7/07 Macy's show. I was there and he started the concert with those lines.

With the settlement of the Ireland gig, the timing of its release, the "I am here where are you?" and audience bits, to me it seems like this is something like "Hello" in a way his response to Prince news as of late.

The lyrics are cool, but seemed brutally and painfully forced into song.

I am not talking about the lyrics,

but: I am not impressed with the music, it is way too "bombastic", makes "Strays Of The World" sound like a masterpiece. (Which it isn't).

Maybe the "Prince glass of inspiration" is half empty, or half full.... it sure is missing something...

It's not the kind of music I like.

this song is for the fans only, it's not reaching out for the big "mainstream" audience.

Is it pop? no...

funk? no.....

light rock...? maybe.

Damn I'm disappointed..... and this is nothing new when it comes to Prince....
