well my source is someone who's named somewhere in this thread.

trying to get confirmation on that Lewis Conection bit, will report back.

I don't know about the guitar but i'll be damned if it's not Prince on background vocals ^^

another missing track from the list:

Common "Star *69 (PS With Love)" from his Electric Circus album.

Prince plays keys and guitar on this, albeit buried wayyyyy back in the mix. Not certain on the date of recording, but I'm led to believe it was spring/summer of 2001.

and no, he's not involved at all on the very prince-esque interlude that concludes the track... though his Linn Drum was used for the piece.

he was asked to contribute guitar to the album's closer, "Heaven Somewhere", which features most of the guest artists that appeared on the album, but declined.

Prince is credited on guitar only if i ain't mistaken & i could NEVER hear any guitar on the track :-s When can u hear it???

Inner City Blues (Marvin Gaye) – tentative placing

== is this the version on the "Inner City Blues" tribute album from 1995?

Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holla)
Bass - Me'Shell NdegéOcello
Co-producer - Wendy Melvoin
Guitar - Wendy Melvoin
Keyboards - Lisa Coleman
Producer - Me'Shell NdegéOcello

This is the one from the tribute but i don't have it 2 compare with the bootleg version attributed 2 Prince that i have...

I could never get a definitive answer on that one, so I'd certainly like to
know for sure one way or the other. Obviously, he's credited on the record,
but Prince himself said he didn't play on it a few years back. I guess the
best person to check with would be Sonny T.

Prince says so many things...

I'm listening 2 it right now and listening carefully, i gotta admit that the background vocals might not be Prince (i was so sure it was him b4)... My copy doesn't exactly have a great sound so it's hard to tell, :-s i'm gonna try 2 find a better copy

When did Prince say that he didn't play on it? i believe you Boris but i'm really surprised he was asked about it in an interview, so i'm just being curious...

By the way, wasn't Prince's version of "Cold Chill" released on a rare promo in 1995 b4 it was released on itunes?

As 4 the Rosie Gaines songs, i think they should b taken out until we learn anything about Prince contributing 2 them ^^

liner notes for the album say keyboards and guitar.

and like i said, he's buried way deep in the mix.

in true prince fashion, what he sent back to common was not what common sent him. they took what he recorded and used it anyway but mixed it so low that it's pretty much inaudible.

So he might as well not have played on it. Who cares if he can't be heard? It's not going on my list. shake

But then, by the same token, the George Clinton tracks should be removed as well. I like having them on my list because the songs are out there on bootlegs whether Prince was involved with them or not (most likely not), so you can place them in the continuity of things. biggrin

If you disagree, you can just delete them from your copy of the list. (You did make a copy of the list, right?) wink

[Edited 10/17/09 4:45am]

I could check but i think the track time is the same, they just have additionnal sound effects on the final albums that aren't on the NPGMC versions. On "Y should..." i remember clearly that it's a very brief synth intervention (2 notes) that was added somewhere in the song. As for "Jesus Kiss", i don't remember what was added but i can check if u want me 2.

By the way i read your great (but now locked eek ) Chaka interview, thanks for posting this, too. It's totaly crazy that she didn't know about "Pain" being released. Her covering of "SOTT" on her last album seems to indicate that she & Prince aren't in bad terms as u feared, but the real drama of all time actually is that that they never did another album 2gether contrarly 2 what she suggested when u talked 2 her, because "Come 2 My house" is just a masterpiece and i'd love 2 get more from them 2gether!!!

Now i saw here & George Duke 2gether on stage in july and it was really amazing and it seems they might record something 2gether, which would probably b soooo cool!!!

They have performed together on stage since then, most recently at Club Nokia in Los Angeles 29 March 2009, so I guess they became friends again. biggrin

"Judas Smile" (originally released as "Judas Kiss", by the way) has an additionnal synth hit just b4 the words "pinnochio mentality" on the 2004 version.

"Y Should Eye Do That..." has an additionnal synth hit at 1:10 mn just after the sentence "u'll never know" in the 2004 version.

Xcept from that they're xactly the same.
