I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

doesn't matter how many songs were created in that time frame, bottom line is wendy started poking her head around 1983 and even if songs were used after 1986, the bulk of her playing with prince is only 3 years.

and she's a rhythym guitarist only ..not a lead guitarist like dez or even mico ..how many guitar solo spots did prince give wendy? or hell how many keyboard solo spots did he give lisa? fink runs circles around her and renato does as well.

hence both of them r good at what they do, but he has had better musicians them both of them period.

Your going a bit to deep lol
Fink Lisa & Renato are 3 different styles
Why are you comparing them?
I take nothing from Dr Fink

And where is all the music he created with Renato? that people are booting about?
And again, I don't know why U(people) continue to lump Lisa & Wendy together(the haters & lovers)

Lisa came to the table on her own, and I again say she had a profound affect on what became Prince music + proteges

I'm not looking at Wendy & Lisa a duo prior to 1986/87

since u want to throw in others, I'll throw in Susannah too, because her insiration went even further than just music and songwriting, shit some of the best Prince songs she's the muse

where is renato? ahhh i'm sorry what song just got released that clearly features renato on it? oh what of renato's playing live during the ona tour, musicology tour, vegas, o2 arena? news? xpectation? 3121? geez

and as 4 wendy and lisa not being a duo prior 1986/87 hah! damn u need a serious musical education
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Instead of comparing it to the original version, I am happy to be able to listen to both. The original version had more energy but the band work is great on the new one, IMO.

i've never heard the original one, but the new one is great! cool

where are Renato(who I like)'s recorded songs that he contributed to, the unreleased stuff he contr to that every bootlegger is after... I was pretty clear that I was not talking about live shows

No Lisa was a band member around 79/80 Wendy became a band member around 82/83

the were a part of the Revolution just like Eric, Matt, Mark, Bobby they just had more input, but so did Susannah
Everytime he did something with Wendy, Lisa wasn't there, every time he did something with Lisa, Wendy wasn't there. again Lisa was creating with Prince Dirty Mind(the Time)Controversy(Vanity 6)1999-
they became a duo after Dream Factory/86 then they became GirlBro's

Personally, I think the original cut "just brings it" in a way the newer version does not, although I could easily see P keeping the original arrangement, then extending the song to include this newer take - like a long/extended version maybe...think "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" where after the solo it goes into a bluesy guitar break...

You'd think Wendy and Lisa would be bored sh*tless talking about the the "Revolution Days" again, and again...

Lisa may be happy to have a letter so she can show "Prince Fans" hey look i can't talk about this boring subject anymore cause prince says so....

Great get out of jail card really... lol
They talk about it because people keep asking them about it.

Well, there really isn't too much else to ask them once you're past the 'what are you doing now and who else have you worked with' things. If they were to ask for a list of questions that excluded anything related to Prince, I don't think they'd get very many.

Prince hasnt used profanity for over a decade now. What grown up is still sweating that fact? Are to believe that his music is really hurting because there are no more bad words? cant we all just be over it by now? This rework of an underground clasic is masterful - it shows how much Prince has evolved in the last 25 years.

What is so incredible about it is that it so deftly demonstrates how much better Prince is now than he was in what many like to refer to as his prime. A true genius does not stop growing. Like Miles Davis, Prince is going into the latter half of like still pushing and growing and seeking out new musical space. This is the the primary reason I have always loved him - since 1978.

Please. This has nothing to do with Prince choosing not to curse and has everything to do with Prince trying to rewrite history. If you're ashamed of the art you once created and ultimately of the person you once were, then just leave the past alone and stop pretending it didn't happen. "The Christ" is the grossest example. But my point in even posting was to question the idea that "damn" is even a swear word. Isn't it in the Bible?

damn ass piss are in the bible

some word people just make more noise about than others

damn - a state of being, place of hopelessness, judgement etc etc
we say it now as a exclamation, not really a curse word

ass - an animal, horse/mule/donkey Jesus sat on the colt of an ass
we say it now as a persons behind(or the whole person represented by their behind. Get your ass out of here

Bitch, Fuck, Shit tend to be harsher words, foul

not bitch as much anymore

Wow, I had to read all 17 pages to catch up!

My two pence...

Orginal version - Great track.

New version - Prince's continued experiment with elevator music. That said, I think this is pretty good. But it might be because of the strength of the writing, rather than the choice of arrangement.

New Vs Old - Who cares. Enjoy both. I rather have two versions rather than one. For those who aren't keen, stick in the same folder as 1999 The new master.

Availabilty - Another prime Prince fuck up. I'm sure it will find its way to LF with better sound sooner or later, but it not the point. $77 is extortionate for a ressession membership that gives absolutely nothing. I hope now, more fans will think twice before signing up. Prince will only listen to the numbers. Hold back on paying and he will adapt for the better.

Jazz snobbery - We always get the jazz "specialists" pop up. Its like wine tasters. They don't understand that people can just enjoy it for what it is. They feel the need to dismantle everything element and judge other's opinions.

They can keep "true jazz". It just sounds like four musicians, each playing entirely differnet songs in the same room at the same time. wink

The more I hear this song the hotter it gets! I mean I really love the original!! What I would really to do is hear them back to back. But in all honesty this shit is HOT!!!!

Also I don't agree that every song Prince does has to end up on LF especially if he's using it to promote the show he's about to play with that specific site. I mean that's just common sense people.

Prince's performances of old material isn't in the past though, its in the present. Thats like saying a person's present & future should be determined by and merely repeat the past. Any existence that precludes change or growth would be pretty shallow imo.

I'm a member of StarWars.com and we get first hand stuff before anyone sees/knows about movie videos, books, comics etc etc
