This is not a bad song. It's a lovely beautiful ballad, and I'm not even big on Prince ballads. The video is pretty nice too. Although I will say that I think Prince may be putting on a few pounds. lol

Now, all you haters out there can bash him all you want. But this still sounds better than all the rest of the garbage that's plaguing the top 40. Even at this worst, Prince can still come up with something good. I know you all want the freak-nasty Prince. But I've accepted the fact that's he's grown up now and decided to play it safe.

Why can't people just look at the song and video and appreciate the virtue behind it, instead of trashing it because it's not what you would expect it to be?

The video was beautiful to look at, I could almost smell it. The dancers were nice too. After viewing it a few times. I still was unable to connect with it of feel anything. I sort of understood the concept and then I was lost. They are there together? They are imagining each other? That's not him in the pool. Was he dreaming of her and she appeared, is she a maid or housekeeper or something... cool incense holder. He videotapes her while she gets stuff ready and then he watches on the wall? Can she see him? Or is she doing the same? imagining stuff while she prepares for him? There is a message of love I got that. But the melody...forgetable. hrmph

I think she sees him videotaping her, gets creeped out, and leaves - that's what he's watching and he 'caresses' her face right as she gets creeped out. That part made me very uncomfortable - like they were admiring each other from afar, but dirty old Prince turned his fantasy into something unhealthy and scared the woman away. I wonder how many times this has happened in real life...

eek Thanks. I thought I had become disconnected inside or something. I could not understand it. I usually can. When did I become a naysayer?

Well, I've heard it, and watched the video (sorry - "AV") etc etc.

THE VIDEO:
Very pretty. Very nice. But (much like the song), it sadly goes nowhere fast, and is over before it feels like it's even started - it would have been nice if it had been a longer cut with some exposition as there's no doubt it's eye-catchingly beautiful in more ways than one. (Why does he keep doing that stupid 'I'm going to stroke the back of my head now reaaaal slow cuz damn, i'm fiiiine' thang tho? It just makes me laugh!) lol

THE SONG:
hmmmmm.... hmmm Well, I don't HATE it, but lyrically it's not shakin' my tree - Spanglish ain't his forté that's for sure! giggle I DO however like the music - the fact he's gone back to his library of unused Clare Fischer orchestration was a nice and welcome surprise, I think Clare's stuff has always complemented Prince's work wonderfully. Somewhat ironically, I think i'd personally enjoy it a whole lot more as a simple no-frills instrumental, but it certainly leaves me intruiged as to what lies ahead down the 3121 road.

OVERALL:
Visually: beautiful - no qualms there.
Musically: very interesting indeed.
Lyrically: disapointingly dull - lacklustre even.

More positives than negatives - but only just.

I have interpeted the lyric to Te Amo Corazon:

At Forty-two thousand feet above the sea
That's when you and I first came to be
from the dust of the earth
and the knowledge tree

I’m old as dirt.

Te Amo Corazon - I think you’re hot

At last I can tell what I know so long
my heart's been crying I can sing this song
I don't care who knows it
cuz there's nothing wrong

You’re over now 18, so I’m think I go for it.

Te Amo Corazon - I think you’re hot

I'm So Scared of losing you
I really don't know what I'd do
Can't bear the thought of another day apart
My heart, My Heart

It’s getting hard, my penis, my penis

Corazon
(Bridge)
Once when I first laid eyes on you
I saw heaven and earth anew
everyone else saw my brown eyes
no longer blue

I was lusting from the first time I saw you dusting.

Te Amo Corazon - I think you’re hot

First I couldn't find the words to say
How much you've changed me every way
I just want to thank ya'
each and every day

I’m not going to give up till I get in your panties,
but I have figure out how to do it with out getting charged with sexual harrasment.
Keep scrubbing my patio in a backless sundress.

Te Amo Corazon - I think you’re hot

at last and finally, an explanation that makes sense

I like the song very much.

On a different note:

1) The official http://www.3121.com website is starting to look interesting also!

2) Looking at the 3121 merchandise on NPGMC, I'm guessing there's going to be a song called Lolita or something like it on the album!

I remember somebody had posted a tracklist and it had a song with Lolita in the title. Does anyone know where I can find the tracklist?

Thx!

Antoon.

Is this album going to be funky or adult contemporary crap? Whatever happend to the true funk soldier? I'll still buy it but i'm not too impressed with the single though i've only heard it once whilst watching the video.

There's nothing bad about it exactly, it's just so unispired and so plain. There's nothing extraordinary about it and, frankly, it's boring. I'm very disappointed. PRINCE, PLEASE, NO ADULT CONTEMPORARY! I feel close to tears. Haha.

Pretty song, slick production, whimsical 'vibe', admirable musicianship with a nod to George Benson when he brandishes the guitar. A few people have said this before, but to me it sounds a little bit like 'And God created Woman' with a Parade-era arrangement. And that's no bad thing.

So why all the hate? The song is obviously a marketable first single from a musician who has nothing to prove to anyone, least of all to excitable fanatics who think they alone have a connection with 'the funk'. Personally I'd much rather have Prince growing old gracefully. It's the latest instalment in a crazy and unpredictable ride that started with an unknown prodigy in 1978 and continues to baffle, fascinate, excite, provoke and irritate me in 2005.

Madonna is shamelessly prancing around, jumping onto 'trendy', transient bandwagons like an embarrassing drunken aunt who's gatecrashed your wedding and won't leave the dancefloor. Prince, as ever, sets his own agenda.

couldn't have said it better myself. positively on the money. by the the way every casual prince fan I know(including my wife) absolutly loves the song.
Bring on 3121. I've no idea what it's going to be like, but I can't wait to find out. All part of the ride.
It is what it is

Well, we have seen the day where our boy does his version of Muzak. TAC is a stinky song -- the only thing enlivening it is Clare Fischer's touch (I, too, found it Paradesque).

The lyrics -- Prince, enough with the Adam & Eve references (dust, trees, etc.) -- even preachers know when to stop mining the same Scripture for new material for sermons at home.

The music (minus Clare F.) -- zzz

And, the video -- I dunno yet. I still use dial-up. boxed

"Let the flames begin!"

I like this song. All this talk about "masterpieces" and "classics" are nuts. Theres nothing on the radio now this smooth outside of maybe Kem. I for one am not looking for another "Do Me Baby" or any other ditty inspired by a trist with a groupie. I want grown-up music and this is it.

I think this is a very pretty song, well produced. The string arrangement is almost sexy by itself. cool

Watched the video on the VH1 website last night. A very "nice" song but very dull and does absolutely nothing for me whatsoever. If this is the best song to release as a lead track for the new album then god help us. A completely inoffensive song, slickly put together, but it won't set the world on fire and already has me thinking it'll be one to skip on the album. Hugely disappointed.

I have to say I think it's really rather good. Simple, stylish and very beautiful.

I've only listened to it twice - once when the audio file came out, once more with the video. I'm going to try and wait for the album before giving it a serious listen - so hopefully it will still be as new as the rest of the album.

Overall I'm impressed.

Rolling Stone have already reviewed it and given it 4stars, essentially saying while it's nothing "new" its brilliantly done and 'move over Sade' as Prince has mastered breeze-lounge pop. It's over on Housequake. Not too bad really.
