The video is nice, very well directed and it would have been even nicer with a fairly nice song, love song.
The song, the lyrics to 'Te Amo Corazon' are NOTHING!. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!! The story is BORING.. B-O-R-I-N-G!!!. They are nothing original. Sounds like he put them lyrics together in a flash of a thought. .. Really, I mean, read the lyrics!.. The song don't go with the music, the music well better left without lyrics. He should have saved that story/video and Selmas work for a much better song. NOT a ballad though. Prince is not good at ballads. I thought NOTHING of "she loves me for me" .. sounds like something a teeny bopper would sing on the way to school... "Call my name" okay, I have to give that some credit, but considering how many woman done called his name the song had no credibility.

-----
Have your ever heard of "Adore" a great ballad and he has written a few others that are great. I don't listen to P's music and expect Shakespearen verse and I never expect that from any love song. I did not like this the first time I heard but, it is starting to grow on me. I just don't know what audience he was going for with it.

I think some of you are little too young to appreciate a good ballad.

Lady, I'm an old fart and I still think Te Asshole Cornhola is the worst Julio Inglesias impression I've ever heard. Funny you mention Adore. Have you heard The Most Beautiful Girl in The World, Sometimes it Snows In April, Don't Talk 2 Strangers, Crucial etc, etc ... THOSE are ballads - and fucking GREAT ones. TAC(KY) is balls.

From what I read here, don't sound like many like the song as much as it sounds they are TRYING to like it.

I agree with that. I mean, as a fan I give Prince a far longer chance than other artists. I mean, if Mariah Carey was singing this song, I'd have switched off after the first hearing. As I've said, after multiple listens, I don't hate the song, it would work fine as an album track, but not as a lead single (or sample of the album or whatever the hell it is).

I thought it kind of odd that Prince was so quick to say that the rest of the album wasn't in the same vein, as though he really had seen a lot of negative feedback before heading into the press conference. Perhaps he's gone off and is totally re-recording the album! 'Ah, that Spanish vibe isn't working. Let's do it hard rock instead!'

What gets me, Prince has had a whole year (unless he has been majorly upto other stuff) to hone this song, I really would have thought he could have worked some more clever lyrics at least.

My favorite thing about the song is the guitar. It's could use more guitar with P going all B.B. King on it. I hope this album has lots more Prince on the guitar, and he just says the heck with it and cuts loose.

So after all this time we still can't get a release date?

Huh, we got a timeframe? but no actual date? Why?

Don't get it?

It would've been great to have the new album as a stocking stuffer for sure!

Lyrics in ballads are almost never that great. Just take a second and look back at the lyrics of some of his best and most loved ballads"

"Do me baby, like you've never done before. Ooh, give it to me til I just cant take no more"

"Until the end of time I'll be there for you. You own my heart and mind I truly adore you"

Every single lyric in TMBITW!!!!

Dont even mention Arms of Orion! ill

I could go on and on. biggrin

TAC has very simple little lyrics, but it's more a song about longing than about lust or passion. The music is understated too.

I think the song is a grower but I cant see it being any sort of hit (if that matters to you). I agree it's a strange choice for lead single but I figure with the album being likely to hit shelves in March/April that there will definately be another song released before then which I assume will be the song identified in the P/Universal camp as having the most potential to be a hit.

I think people should also bear in mind what demographic Princes music is being aimed at. Columbia did not even try to push any of the Musicology songs on the pop market as they knew the kids who buy up Eminem and 50cent are not going to buy a P record. I would guess that Universal are going to go for the same adult R&B market that Columbia aimed for.
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I, like many it seems, wasn't crazy about this tune upon first listening. Now after all the hype has subsided and I let the song just be, I like it. I like it's simplicity and mood. Clare Fisher's strings bring that familar Prince vibe that I love. I agree it does stick in your head. I woke up this morning with it stuck in my head. The song has cool little things going on when you listen on headphones. I hear new things each time. And that's the kind of songs I like. It's not about "instant gratification".

Exactly ! As I said before it is a very vicious song. You could think it is easy listening at first but the song is musically rich. I like the organic song, the sophistication of the arrangements and the sound as well.
Il n'y a pas de sentiment plus exaltant que celui d'appartenir à une nation si diverse, si libre et si douée pour le bonheur.

Admit it, Te Amo Corazon is possibly the weakest lead-off single Prince has released for an album. It made me cringe listening to it, and hated the music video. I hope the album is much better than that awful song.

I think that Selma H. did a beautiful job on the visuals, and i heard this on the other thread, but this vid did make me want to go watch Frida. I just like the way uses the camera to accentuate the smaller things-- his hands on the flowers, the way she lets her hair down when he's following her (or her ghost?)

Great visuals...especially when his shadow caresses her image.

The song is not a bad one, but it sounds as if Prince wanted to have an exclusive deal with Starbuck or Chapters. It's tasteful, subdued and unassuming, like good background music is supposed to be. I hear it being played while I serve coffee and eclairs to my dear aunt who's taking dance lessons to finally meet a man after 15 years as a divorcee.

Another take on this, although graceful and poetic, imagine if that glass shattered and Prince made contact with who he's dreaming about. There'd be nothing subdued and unassuming about it and probably lead to a blast of free flowing FUNK.

Thank goodness he said that this song isn't indicative of the new album. That was a relief for this orger, I can tell you that! He may as well have recycled "Get Blue", and done a video for that. It's a much better song. And if he's using the tune to send a message to a new love interest, hey P, just pick up the damn phone and spare us this dribble.

This crap from the same man that told us:

"aint nothing worse than an old worn out love song"

definitely not what i expected and definitely not good at all.
where is the rock? where is the funk? where is a little bit of humour?
this is totally sappy.....

sad

Just saw the video and am thinking i'm dense. I don't get it. Is he stalking her or something? Looks like they never meet or anything.

I will say Mia Maestro looks every bit as good in it as she does in Alias.

Yes indeedy a beautiful woman she is!! razz biggrin smile

I think one reason that they never interact is that Prince may be trying to prove wrong the rumors that he was cheating on Mani. Anyway, it leaves the audience with a feeling that there is something very impersonal between "the couple" who is supposed to be madly in love. Did Prince really want to film this video? Aside from that, the video has a mystical feel to it and the music is very mellow but heartfelt.

For me, it's down toward the bottom. On the level of Thieves in the Temple and Dinner with Delores. Above dreck like "Greatest Romance" and "Betcha By Golly" but below everything else.

A beautiful (albeit safe) song - Sade type feel, which we know he is into her/their music. Prince is not going to stand still and give us 80s material (so please get over it), but this song is very soft and sensual. Eric Clapton, George Benson, Babyface, and Earl Klugh are ringing his phone of the hook right now (joking). Sade is probably saying - That was cut material from my album; however, I like your spin.

Keep giving us good music Prince!

It just wasn't what I expected.. and Te Amo Corazon just doesnt seem like a single to me .. it would be great as filler for the album.. but I just wanted to hear something more exciting.. It wouldve even been a great instrumental interlude between tracks or somethin'. Wr've had enough Prince ballads. and I think Prince probably knows hes one of the greatest writers of the ballad of our time and he just played it safe and released one yet again as a first single. sad
