Sorry, but when I think blues, Prince is one of the LAST names that comes to mind.

At last, a voice of reason!!!

So what, y'all know it's THE RIDE dammit... :X

It's got a defintite blues riff; ZANNALEE comes to mind, too.. He can play 'em, but I don't think of him as someone with an extensive catalog of blues numbers (not counting covers).

It would be very interesting to see him on stage with some true blues guitar-slingers

I don't want to seem controvercial...but to some of you commenting that Prince doesn't have many blues songs....How can you call yourself a fan, and believe that? Prince has MANY blues songs. I think much of his life has been expressed in the blues songs he has written/composed, coupled with all of his other music, (funk, pop, rock, etc) I think Prince IS his music, and his music IS him....And A LOT of his music WAS (& some still is) blues-ish, even a lot of the funk and rock had blue undertones...again, this is my opinion...peace and much luv 2 u all..Rachel

OK fuck it, WE AIN'T FANS!!

The Ride and Old Friends for Sale and the Blues Medley he did on Rave un2 the year 2000 was very spine tingling.

Just in case some of you have forgotten, Prince can take

any of

his songs and give it a blues riff.....and make it sound

good.

From the ones you all have noted, MY top choices are;

1. 5 WOMEN
2. THE QUESTION OF U
3. THERE IS LONELY

No one mentioned;
4. ANOTHER LONELY CHRISTMAS - does it not qualify????

Also - with so many votes for THE RIDE, I think I am going to listen to Crystal Ball a little more closely now....

The Ride is tops, but the original "Old Friends 4 Sale" is right behind it.

Everybody here seems to refer to "The Ride" from the Crystal Ball album. I have a show called "Stars & Bars" and the version of The Ride on that is the first track and it BLOWS AWAY the CB version.

if it can be considered blues (in a stretch), "Joy in Repetition." P is doing some really strong blues playing on the "cleaner" guitar. The overdriven guitar is all Santana-land, I know (even though that includes some bluesy stuff), but the clean guitar makes ya wanna sit down and weep.

Witness -- dude's playing some bluesy, Hendrixy stuff.

The Ride (Crystal Ball) -- because of that really cool descending scale he does near the end.

The piano runs he throws in the midst of "Under the Cherry Moon" (I kid you not)!

the Hendrix-inflected playing he lays down on "Had U!" Oh my gosh. First time I heard that one, I was like, "Dude, where's the rest of the song???"

Dude, I totally agree with the Hendrix stuff you were saying about Prince. "Had U" is... there is only so much you can say about that song. Can I get an extended version please?

I don't believe it

I was just about to come on here and say
" Please don't anyone say 'The Ride'"

and I see almost everyone DID say it !!!

Please - that song is so boring, sure it has some kick ass solos but one chord thru the whole song ?

Is that really blues ?
But lik someone said Blues has a pattern, a chord progression. The Ride sounds like Blues , and I would probably classify it as blues , sure it has a bluesy feel but technically it isnt a blues song - it only has one chord throughout the whole song...

The Undertaker - that's a stretch - that one has TWO notes!

Geez dont u hate when u say something so much you forget
what it means ? Blues blues blues

Kiss is Blues !
Zannalee is Blues !
