I still think I'll hunt down iVault, if nothing else, for the Get Satisfied outtakes. I love George 2nd only to Prince...
Based on my own instinct, your words & those of squirrelgrease, I chose to delete Chronic's quotes from my posts, I'll leave it to you to decide if you want to delete them from you quotes.

If you don't care about the group or their album, what on earth are you doing in this thread??!

Yes, PLEASE!!
On one hand I'd like to just keep believing I'm right, that I hear Prince all over Hey Man, especially on Get Satisfied, on the other hand, FACTS would be cool!! [Edited 5/27/11 9:20am] Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

No, no, this was NOT copyright infringement. It was a clearly referenced and credited quote used as reference for a discussion. Chronic has no legal right to prevent this.
THAT SAID, it could be considered disrespectful of his wishes. That is why I deleted the quote after the discussion was complete.
Because I DO respect his wishes. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I said "may" be copyright infringement. It doesn't necessarily matter if it was quoted and/or credited, if it was reproduced without explicit consent of the copyright holder it may be in violation of US copyright laws. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's not.
Legally it's fair use.
This is clearly a case of respect, not of legality.
And, the point is moot considering I've already deleted the quotes and I expect databank probably will as well.

Your first post, and the last one I'll be reading. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Man, I wish I had the luxury of free time to constantly write long, ranting posts on a music thread. Guess some of us aren't so lucky, we're too busy with little things like earning a paycheck and stuff. Seriously folks, this thread is at least 5 pages too long. ~Using the Fat Albert emoticon 'cause no one else is... ~

I do know what I am saying, here is a quote from Neil, "PRN/Paisley Park or whomever the parent company is have continued to exploit the band's image, voice etc" and don't tell me I don't have a clue about what I am saying, without looking up your facts. It's no use, this is the way this site is and it's never gonna change,I don't always agree with Prince or the things he does, but name calling and the hateful things that are said is disturbing. That's my opinion. Attack all you want.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I am ok with that. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You shouldn't be okay with that. Squirrelgrease is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people on the org. Pissing him off in your first post is quite an accomplishment. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Pissing him off simply because I have a different opinion than him. Nothing I can do about that, I will continue to express my opinion even if it is different from yours. I have a right to my thoughts and to express them just like you.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Of course you have a right to your thoughts and to express them. Just like I have a right to walk into a party that I've been invited to and tell everyone there that they're a bunch of jerks and they're stupid to have the party in the first place. Have fun. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I read posts that look interesting, I have that right. look we don't agree on this issue and that's ok, I just have a problem with the negative tone on this site, I just think people can agree to disagree, not tear people down. I have never been on a fan site that tears down the performer like this. This is my opinion of course. I guess you don't feel like that is what you are doing. We agree to disagree.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Uncalled for, I mean really I did not call you any names. Do we really have to go there, simply because I have a different opinion than you, now I am a jerk? I have not said anything bad about anyone who has respond to my post, I would appreciate the same respect.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Normally, I wouldn't bother responding to your post. But you haven't been here that long and you seem to be generally confused as to why people are having a negative response to your posts in particular and to speak to your perception of the "negative tone" of this site.
Here's the deal. When you have an artist that's been around as long as Prince has had the fortune to, you end up having fans of all ages. Not just young fans that idolize everything you do, but even older fans that have been around the block a few times.
Throw in Prince's love/hate relationship with his fanbase (multiple perceived ripoffs via websites, the lawsuits over YouTube and even the ones involving this particular website, etc.) and you get a fanbase that is somewhat unique in the fact that we are all fans of his music (and even then, he's been around long enough that we all don't agree on even which period we're fans of) but not necessarily fans of the man.
That's part of what I like to call "The Eternal Debate" here on The Org. You see some in here believe that to be a fan of an artist means that you never disagree with that artist on anything. There are some that think that this would be a better place if there was never anything negative ever posted about Prince. Actually, this site is a hell of a lot closer to that than it was. Which in my mind is why this place has suffered in recent years.
You used to be able to have healthy, yet respectful debates in here. Sure, sometimes they got spirited but it was all coming from a mutual place. Our love of Prince music. In my opinion this place is boring for the most part now, save the occasional threads like this one. And then you saw what happened. The internet egos that have infected this place with their blind rhetoric in favor of their purple liege came out in full force to attack and defend his honour.
I've been a Prince fan since i was 13 years old. My whole life. Back when he just belonged to the black community. I've been to every tour in Detroit since Controversy. Yes, i was even at the highly bootlegged birthday concert in Detroit at Cobo Hall in '86. I hate The Gold Experience and think that Graffiti Bridge was one of the worst films in cinematic history. I think Prince is a musical genius and probably one of the worst businessmen i've ever seen. You see, i'm a fan of the music and the artist but not necessarily the man.
I'd never want to meet him. When i was younger I used to dream about what that would be like. Now i'm older and i know better.
Being a Prince fan is a complex thing. Not unlike the man himself, I imagine. I don't think that if i talk about his lack of business acumen in regards to websites that it "hurts" him. I'm pretty sure he doesn't care what I think about that. So coming to a place like this and talking about it with other like minded individuals should be okay. It's not an "attack" against Prince. It's people's opinions about some of his decisions. And we don't bring them up so he'll get pissed off and write about it in a song, or in the hope that he'll show up here one day and "set us straight" and make us "internet famous", it's just what we think. And you can be free to disagree. And we can debate it. But the conversation itself isn't a bad thing. At least it shouldn't be. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts

He wasn't calling you a jerk. You have misinterpreted his statement.
While he has the right to do so, he doesn't because he knows better and is, presumably, a respectable person. You may have had the right to come in and shove your shit around, but that doesn't mean you should've.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah- you got no clue. the FULL text reads: "Business was not handled correctly. Paisley Park/Warner issued The Family album without a finalized contract signed by the whole band. PRN/Paisley Park or whomever the parent company is have continued to exploit the band’s image, voice etc with the full knowledge that they is doing so without the performer’s permission." If that is a fact it merely says Prince does not have a finished contract. The BIG issue is the use of the name and Prince's lack of communication with the band from what I have read. AND the fact that they have chosen NOT to use the name. So your cherry picking a semi quote from 3 sentences to make some point that is not even the main issue. If you have to work that hard to create a stir perhaps you need to rethink your anger at this site. So there are your "facts". I have not attacked you or called you or anyone else any names, but you are rather big on inviting people to do so. As if to fulfill your own view of the org.

I am not shoving anything around, Why I am shoving something around because I have a different opinion than you. Fyi, I am also a respectable person, I don't think I have said anything in any of my posts to imply anything else. I simply think most people took what was said by Neil and Alan as truth, without knowing the other side. I think Fans should be able to have a conversation about the artist with out all the mean sprited comments.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
THANk YOU!!! How nice it was to read your post with out all the meanness. Thank you for taking the time to help me understand things better, I appreciate that. I have been a Prince fan for about 20 years, I don't always agree with him, and have been upset with somethings he has done in the past. I just think we could think differently on a subject about Prince and still have a constructive conversation. Again thank you so much, I think I understand better now. All I want to do is go some where and discuss his music!!

I think that quoting someone quoting someone else, while that someone doesn't want to be quoted quoting someone else and this someone else himself doesn't want to be quoted by anyone at all would really be too bad for my karma, so I've decided to delete my quote of you quoting ChronicFreeze.
May this help me reincarnate on a better place

My goodness you took this post to heart, not sure that is good or bad. I have had many responses to this post, I at first did not understand the anger. However a lot of you have sent some really good constructive feedback, (org notes) thanks to those who took the time to help me understand the anger, with out being angry. Look it's seem you all think I am attacking your admiration for Prince, I guess it was not fair to group everyone in the same vein. I was only speaking to those who only looked at one side of the story, and then had extremely negative things to say based on one side. Please simply because I asked for us to remember Prince has a side does not mean I am a Prince fanatic. Prince probably will not give his side, I understand that. Don't mean he does not have one. It is just fair to remember we only heard one side, and we don't have to agree on this. However I wish we would not start attacking each other. I would like to understand more about the site as time goes on. I hope I get a better prospective of it. Thanks!!
