Hey, you can feel the way you want, but you do know he is going to do what Prince wants to do, and if he wants one of his singers to be lead vocal, so he could take a back seat for a minute, then he will do that, as it's obvious he's the one calling the shots with his band-- not the people whose show he performs on or the fans, regardless of how they/we feel.
By the way..no koolaid drinker here, dude, that's too much acid for me.
I'd suggest you lay off typing in caps a bit though, to avoid giving yourself a heart attack, because you're showing strong signs of screaming fits and anger. If you do that, it might just help cure that sh*tting --> problem you say you have as well. Nice chattin' with ya.

I thought least she look better when she had some hair!!!! And she did seem to bogard the stage when she came out front to sing the last song on Lopez last night!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
So the reason why you don't like her is because she doesn't have hair?
And no, she didn't "bogard the stage", she walked up confidently and got her piece in. She can't shuffle up to the mic if she's going to lead a song. And according to my statistics it's 150% likely that Prince arranged the set up for the last song. It's not 100% but............. time flies.

I like Shelby's personality, style and her singing Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

Shelby and the other two covered "Which Way Is Up?" in Charlotte and it was quite wonderful. All three powerful voices covering a very funky song. I've seen Prince four times during the W2A tour and aside from the "Eyes Of An Angel" cover at the IZOD Center back in December, I am a fan of the three back up singers "sangin'."
I might get some shit for saying this but I will anyways...
If Shelby were thin, white or biracial, and she had flowing long hair to go along with her powerful voice and stage persona, would she get so much hate from this board and from others I've seen complain about her?
Rosie Gaines' role was to sing and then meld into the background, Shelby is not that kind of artist and to compare her to Tony, a third rate rapper cum hype man, is almost blasphemous. Shelby had a career before Prince and she will have one after him. Many of you on here heard her sing "Misty Blue" as I did and it was amazing. If you really can't appreciate good musical talent like that, then you really have no idea what Prince is about. His concerts haven't been just about him since what, 1986? He understands that his platform allows him to showcase people he thinks/knows are talented. He had Esperanza Spalding as an opening act BEFORE she won her Grammy. I know that exposure like that didn't hurt her sales numbers or her chances of getting acclaim and awards.

So for some reason you think Prince had absolutely nothing to do with her being in front singing lead if he did not want her there? Come on now.

I think a lot of his fans are used to the 80s Prince girls and expect him to showcase a certain "type" the rest of his career, that they were used to him passing off as talent. Clearly that is not happening now, because he is showcasing artists with real talent, since the industry is promoting manufactured, lip-synching, limited talent, pop acts, and pimping them off as r&b artists with no real talent or image of their own. I think for over the past 10 years a lot of music lovers got used to the talentless, and now that they hear real talent out there singing, they can't seem to recognize it. Some think real talent is only about looks.

Ladies & Gentlemen I give you Shelby Johnson and the New Power Generation!!!! Oh yeah Prince is here too.
When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

nothing's wrong with Shelby J....the girl is talented, and she can sing. the problem - just like during the 3121 era with Tamar - is that she's just TOO front and center. too much Shelby J! i like her, but if i'm paying money for a Prince concert, give me Prince singing and Prince making love to that guitar. if there are side acts, let them be opening or supporting acts, in their own right. i don't want them taking up time from a Prince performance.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah she totally took over the whole show and demanded that prince not sing in the last song.
Prince actually wanted to sing lets go crazy but mean old shelbey shoved him to the back and sung the song all by herself
Afterwards she fired Prince....
I should probably add that I'm joking (because some people actually want me to be serious so they can yell at me)

New Shelby generation, they wanna change the world, the only thing thats in their way is that dude, with his old fashion music, his JW ideas, sick of Prince tellin them what to do,
Lay down your funky weapon, come join us on the floor, shaving all your hair off going bald is the only thing worth fighting for.. xD [Edited 4/14/11 14:40pm]

oh thats cool .. i don't take all this that seriously .. no heart attack for me .. its like how certain kids in school get pushed a little harder because they have potential for greatness unlike the dumb ass sitting in the next desk who is destined to work for peanuts at some low class slave labor job .. i'd like to see prince well respected again, amongst all his fans .. not holding out for a great record but he could really take his live show to a more focused and mind blowing level .. a tight set of even 15 songs full length would really not be difficult .. he could play extended mix versions if he needs a vocal break .. just the 7 half sung hits mixed with medleys and filler crap is not only boring but it makes no sense why prince chooses to present himself this way .. i am sure the crowd is happy with the hits mixed in there but again i come back to the potential for greatness and unfortunately prince is not being pushed .. he has no reason .. i know he doesnt care to win awards .. but as a musician i am sure he cares if his work is respected by his peers .. this new set is just beyond lazy on prince part .. there is no focus and his song selection is perhaps his most cringe worthy aspect of his personality right now

love shelby.
hate when he forces some twee-voiced lil-lala on us tho.

Actually, it's apparent he was the kid who pushed harder because he had the potential for greatness, and took it to that level a long time ago. He certainly wasn't the kid that didn't take that risk or he would have never made to the level of a famed musician, like he is today. Secondly, his work is respected by many fans, as well as a plethora of musicians/artists, and he has been and still is, an influence and inspiration to many musicians/artists. No musician/artist will ever satisfy all their fans, that would be unrealistic. I see nothing wrong with his current band members as they're all talented musicians and artists. To each their own, as we all have different tastes in his music. [Edited 4/14/11 20:32pm]
