Alt.Music.Prince - The Good Old Days

Someone mentioned amp on another thread, and I got all nostalgic. I posted there for a long time.

I remember that dude named Lou, who was always bragging about how many girls he shagged. Then someone posted a picture of him (allegedly), and it was the funniest picture I've ever seen. I still laugh when I think of it.

I remember Rudedog from amp. Cool dude.

And T. That dude was weird. He was always railing on Prince, and talking about the secret stuff he had that no one would ever get to hear. And then he'd threaten to commit suicide.

amp is also where I heard the masterpiece that is "Hey Hannigan". Greatest song EVER.

Memories - got any?

It was cool, but only because in those days there was no such thing as downloading. So people always talked about what they had, and who would trade what, and who the bad traders were. There were PLENTY of bad traders.

But the org is cooler than amp. Although, now that I think about it, amp wasn't moderated.

It was great. Until it devolved into ernest and his battles with everyone. The org getting a forum in 2002 was pretty much the death knell for A.M.P. though.

There were downloads. It was alt.binary.music.prince

Anyone remember that we had the same issues on AMP that we do on the Org? Liiiiiike people claiming to be real fans (aka "Fams") and bitching about the "negativity" of those Prince dubbed "Naysayers"?

Remember the ongoing AMP-ism, "Y R U on AMP?" which was used to take the piss out of people who didn't like others criticizing Prince.

Hey Hannigan is a classic one.

The original appearances of famous orgers like Ernest, Bart, UrVile, Rhastus69, Lee (gosh, I forget his username now!), Patricia the stripper (and the guy she dated whom she met on AMP and who was banned from Paisley for tryng to steal a VHS that was laying around), T vs Lib, T vs all of AMP, Neversin's permanent cling to T's dick, user "Never Forget" (taken from the LRC mix), Lou and his intense stalking of that one girl who called herself Lil Mayte - Connie Marie I wanna say, Rudedog's list of bad traders, the trader Reputation Wars that broke out every once in a while....

There's some others whose screen names I forget but I can clearly remember their posts.

I left AMP in or around 2003. Prince's material wasn't so hot and the climate at AMP was just lacklustre as it became a lot like how Prince.org is right now....

He began as NPAlbany for his... I guess back then there were a lot of things like NPNY and LovesexyDC and he was starting to make one for upstate NY. Never got off the ground. That was in 1999 or 2000, I believe. He then just went as Ernest Sewell IV with the same big ass sigs and overbearing personality.

Gotta love Ernest, but boy that guy can point fingers like a true christian!

Man, you have a great memory! I knew about alt.binary.music.prince, but I never knew how to download MIME files (isn't that what they were called?).

Then there was the great debate about whether or not isis2000 was Prince on AOL, or maybe it was isis2ooo, or some people said no, it was isis200o. LOL.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Man, U got a great memory. Those were some good times though. It was Connie Marie that was Lil Mayte and Rude was on there and that bad trader list. It was like a little Bible and he never let me down. I forget who it was that had so much stuff on his Prince server but I came across the 9 or 10 cde's full of mp3's that he sent me....I'll have to look through old notes to see who that was again...I love the Org now but those were some good times for trading...but then we had the drama...Thanks for reminding me of those days!!

Lee = JuvenileHi, right?

Innocent times... Trading stuff on audio tapes that you had to physically send to other people...

I discovered alt.music.prince in 1993. My brother used to print (!) messages from alt.music.prince for me, because we didn't have internet at home.

yeah if you could find all the parts and if they all worked the way they wetre suposed to work and then it could still take 12 hours for a MB. I remeber dling one of the variations of "slave 2 the system" that was like 2 minutes long at at 97% and 18 hours it failed!

the PML was the best. it was an instant email forwarder that would email all the posts to everyone on the list. But then some fool kept bombing it with huge (64kb files) and then it went to digest form and kind of died.

It held on right up to the end of 1996, but died when it became this website and the chatroom and news threads began. I miss mailing lists. It was a fun, guilt-free diversion throughout the day when you'd get a new message in your email, rather than seeking it out on a forum.

Shit-chucking fest at its best!

Think Hammer's site was earlier though - along with NPN (New Power Network) which was around circa 1994-96?
