Didn't T fake his death on amp?

He obvious never died but I thought he did and contacted him to find out it wasn't true.

That was the stangest thing I have ever seen him do.

I never understood his motive or need for attention.

When he is himself he is actually a funny guy to hang out with.

I don't remember Ernest from amp. What name did he post under?

He began as NPAlbany for his... I guess back then there were a lot of things like NPNY and LovesexyDC and he was starting to make one for upstate NY. Never got off the ground. That was in 1999 or 2000, I believe. He then just went as Ernest Sewell IV with the same big ass sigs and overbearing personality.

Gotta love Ernest, but boy that guy can point fingers like a true christian!

Remember a guy named Tim Carlson, Ronny Bhadra...old timers.

There was a dude who was really good pals with Ernest who used to get in disputes with him sometimes, too. The guy actually wrote posts a lot like robinhood's posts. All i can remember is what he looks like (there was an AMP Photo Thread/Site too). (Edit: Remembered him - RDHull)

hmmm. I don't think it was rdhull. Or at least he's changed his mind since. He's not a big ernest fan these days.

Holy shit, Bart - I forgot about Prince Family, Le Grind, and Sevenmag... man, those were busy times for a Prince fan.

No rush, but if you could dig up those archived AMP posts, i'd be happy to "wiki-them-up". smile

It's amazing to look back at those old posts and look at the dates - 15 years! I could barely drive and was there arguing about bootleg quality and how shitty the mp2s of Animal Kingdom sounded. (yes, mp2). Good times.

I'll never forget leaving my dad's phone online all night so I could download "My Little Pill" from ABMP - took almost 5 hours for a one-minute song. The song sucks, but I'll always love it for that reason.

I think Warren was one of the original L4OA team and walked away from it at the same time as I did. I vaguely recall something called "Electric Sun" or something like that, which Warren set up after he took down The Dawn, but then this never went anywhere and I don't know what it was supposed to be.

BTW Any chance you've got some digital archives of Uptown issues, like the article on Prince's web presence?

The Dawn web site...

S ‘s official World Wide Web site on the Internet, The

Dawn, opened on his and Mayte’s Wedding Day, February

14th 1996 [see the Interactive section].

Message From The Artist

On December 22, Paisley Park issued a press releasethat read as follows:

”S has officially given notice to Warner Bros. Records(WBR) of his desire to terminate his recording agreement with the company. Over the course of their nearly two decade long relationship, The Artist and WBR have developed irreconcilable differences. Most recently, the unstable and ever changing management structure within WBR has made it impossible for the company to effectively market and promote its flagship artists, including S. The Artist is prepared to deliver the three (3) remaining albums under his former name Prince which will fulfill his contractual to WBR. Currently, the albums are titled: Prince: The Vault – Volumes I, II and III. S will release a new recording entitled Emancipation once he is free from all ties with Time Warner.”

The press release wasn’t very detailed, but it outlined my feelings as the Holiday week approached. While it was a message to everyone, it was more for the ears of the entertainment industry, and specifically it was geared towards the music industry and its musicians – both young and old, green and seasoned, struggling and successful. These words from Paisley Park are from me. My ultimate message is a cry for solidarity amongst artists and a reprieve from the greed of entertainment executives.

My message stems from a lifetime of development as an artist and as a businessman, and my increasing awareness of a greedy structure within the music industry that unjustly rewards large, slow corporate management teams, while overlooking and not protecting its bread and butter – the artists.

As difficult as it is to admit now, when I began my career with Warner in 1978, I had a lot to learn. The transition into the artist I am now hasn’t been a smooth one. I don’t want other young artists to be mislead in the same way. I’m expressing my feelings so that others will learn from my mistakes. I also want all established artists to understand the issues and know that there should be a better way and to join with me to create that new path.

At 37 years old, I have been a recording artist for Warner Music for what will be seventeen years this April. I was only 19 years old when I recorded my first album as Prince. Recording for a large label was new and exciting. I had an opportunity to reach millions of people around the world, not just my faithful following here in Minneapolis around the club scene. As time passed, the realities of the music industry and its current hierarchical pecking system sunk in. Artists are last on the totem pole in terms of recoupment.

My path has been a long and arduous one. In the beginning, both youth and excitement towards the opportunity to have an album produced made me, as Prince, naïve. Savvy lawyers claiming to have my interest at heart, long in bed with the record companies they pimp, offered me what seemed to be a lucrative contract, without fully explaining the ramifications of its terms. I wrote an album a year for many years until I realized a trap had been laid. I would never be able to leave the legacy of my music to my family, my future children or anyone, because “Prince” did not own the Masters – I did not, and still do not, own my Art.

For most of all of my adult life, I have labored under one construct. I compose music, write lyrics, and produce songs for myself and others. My creativity is my life; it is what guides my everyday, my sleepless nights. My songs are my children. I feel them. I watch them grow and I nurture them to maturity. I deliver them to my record company, and suddenly, they are no longer mine. The process is painful. I have been long ready for a new program. The time is now.

As an artist, I want to share my music with others. I crave the experience of writing and sharing with others. It is what I do as an artist; as a human being. I take pleasure in the fact that others are able to share in my joy once the process is complete. My fans are my children’s friends; I respect them and want to communicate with them.

As a businessman and the owner of NPG Records – the label that released “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World” – the 1994 Number One release by an independent, I realize that record companies are a natural part of the food chain. It is the record label that allows a musical artist to reach out to his or her audience, but that does not mean that whichever organization markets and distributes the music should own the final product, i.e. the Masters.

What I have learned as both an artist and a businessman is that a middle ground must be developed. All artists, whether new or established, must have a substantial ownership interest in the music they create. Conversely, all record labels need an incentive to market music and push it through their distribution systems; still, that incentive should not be ultimate control. Record labels have no right to enslave the creators.

The first step I have taken towards the ultimate goal of emancipation from the chains that bind me to Warner Bros. was to change my name from Prince to S. Prince is the name that my Mother gave me at birth. Warner Bros. took the name, trademarked it, and used it as the main marketing tool to promote all of the music that I wrote. The company owns the name Prince and all related music marketed under Prince. I became merely a pawn used to produce more money for Warner Bros.

By my 35th birthday, June 7, 1993, I was beyond frustrated with my lack of control over my career and music. It seemed reminiscent of much that had been experienced by other African-Americans over the last couple of hundred years. They had turned me into a slave and I wanted no more of it. The dilemma had only one clear solution. I was born Prince and did not want to adopt another conventional name. The only acceptable replacement for my name, and my identity, was S, a symbol

with no pronounciation, that is a representation of me and what my music is about. This symbol is present in my work over the years; it is a concept that has evolved from my frustration; it is who I am. It is my name.

I look forward to the release of Emancipation in the near future. It will be The Dawn of the next phase of my life as a musician. It will represent my freedom from the past and it will be a continuum of what I have started here today.

FIRST VERSION OF MESSAGE FROM THE ARTIST FROM THE DAWN WEB SITE.

Uptown 24

New Warner Bros. web site

On June 7th, Warner Bros. Records opened a new web site in honour of S’s birthday and the upcoming album,

Chaos And Disorder. This is the site address: <http://www.wbr.com/chaosanddisorder>. There is a oneminute

downloadable Real Audio excerpt of “Dinner With Delores,“ the first single from the new album, available at this site.

There is also “Dinner With Delores“ lyrics, the album’s cover art and a downloadable limited edition screen saver

of the album cover art.

Children’s projects

According to a statement that appeared in USA TODAY

on June 26th, S and Mayte are currently working

on a series of children’s stories and songs.

S’s web site The Dawn has put up this press release:

“S and expectant wife Mayte are already at work on

their next joint venture – a series of children’s songs

and books to celebrate the November birth of their

child. The excited first-time parents will record eight

new songs and develop three short stories for children.

The creative parents are working on the project as a gift

to their new born child.”

This idea is not so new, as it is known that Prince/

Paisley Park Enterprises had in its possession on the 1993

US Act I tour a children’s story treatment concerning a

little girl who travels to Minneapolis to present her favourite

musician with a home-made purple tambourine.

Fuck, how did I miss that?

Of course there was also PrinceFan from ATL who was a big trader, smartass ratso who was actually very cool in person, JeePee (always thought of him as a big stoner), the infamous TedDaniell, KaresB from Hungary who did an excellent job on "remastering" a few discs I sent him, Aerogram from Canada with the hearing implant, The Ur-Vile, Rhastus big Time fan. etc etc

The AMP misfits page, I'd like to see that again. haha

Oh, also Chastity with a nice FTP server.

AMP was all about the boots and uncensored, unmoderated and therefore heated discussions. RD threatened to kill me, Lou was stalking Emani and TheSeduction747 and the neverending flame wars between T and Lib201. Also remember there was a huge thread about some pics taken at a Prince fan meeting. That's when we'd stop the bullshit arguments and make fun of the "fams".

Something archived:

"With that introduction, here is alt.music.prince, a forum for free-form discussion about Prince, his music, his label Paisley Park, and other artists on Paisley Park. The emphasis is on news about just what is Prince up to (like "When is the new album coming out?", "Who just signed to Paisley Park Records?", etc.) but discussion is welcome on any topic related to Prince"

Dang, I forgot about that page and a few of those old names! I was just looking for the old site I had where I had the 'pretend' pictures of everyone, but I can't remember what it was called.

I still give T shit about faking that he died and I learned a of couple years ago, that Ratso was in on it too (I think with the posting part IIRC) and he also got his ass chewed out. It was during a hurricane and I was on the phone with T while he was outside telling me how crazy it was. Then he kind of yelled about something blowing off his apartment and the call disconnected. I tried calling back a few times but couldn't get him. A few days went by and I figured things were fine until that stupid post, which I figured was fake, but being the worry-wart mom I am, it still freaked me out because some of the stuff they said, I knew had to come from his roommate. Then I had folks calling/writing me asking wtf was going on. When he finally called back, I was ready to kill that little fucker (and his accomplices)!!

I'm sorry to see this thread relegated to the backwaters of prince.org site discussion, but I have a suggestion for all of you experienced orgers from "way back when." I am not a "newbie" to Prince even though I am a "newbie" to prince.org. This thread was one of the most interesting in recent history, considering the amount of "what if Prince.." and "OMG Prince is my next hubby" threads which currently proliferate here. My own posts about listening to some bootlegs for the first time have been soundly rejected as badly written or not well thought out, among other criticisms... LOL

My suggestion for those of you who have had long experience and knowledge of Prince, his concerts, his music (official or non-official) is this: why don't some of you start posting some knowledgeable and intelligient threads about some of these subjects in order that a real conversation can get started and so that many of us who don't share this knowledge could learn from all of you and ask (hopefully) some intelligient questions and really join into the conversations? I miss real threads on here about Prince's music...as well as others. We need your music knowledge, wit, and wisdom. Won't some of you please post some serious threads to educate the younger ones (and those of us late to the internet world)?

Thanks for any thoughtful responses or considerations. wink
