He could have played any song he wanted, and I still would have loved it. Andy Mckee teasing us with an acoustic take on Purple Rain was great, I loved how he opened with Gold (one of my favourite songs!), I had the biggest smile on my face when Little Red Corvette started (my favourite Prince song), it was a treat hearing Jam Of The Year and $ (I think they were geared towards the hardcore fans), Sometimes It Snows In April was beautiful (another one of my favourites), Love... Thy Will Be Done was amazing (Listening to bootlegs, I always thought, "Wouldn't it be great if Prince took lead vocals on this song?" Well he did and it was FUCKING AWESOME!), by the time he was playing Purple Rain I couldn't stop crying, that was heavenly, inspiring and moving! I loved the sampler set as well, I don't care what anyone else says, that was so good! Controversy absolutely blew me away, I love that song! And I'm so glad that I waited for Peach, it was well worth the wait. Prince came back riding his bicycle and I was sooo close to him! Damn, I felt sorry for the people who had already left.
That was the best show ever, and nothing that anyone says can convince me otherwise. Prince is sooooo funky!!!
I'm so happy for you! I've seen him over a dozen times but I never tire of reading the thoughts of people seeing him for the first time.

No, they do not. There was a heated long thread on the org about a guitar-throwing-don't-get-to-keep-it incident quite a while back. I can't remember if an org'er came on here whining and crying about having the guitar ripped from him, or whether someone just posted an article about a whining and crying fan who had the guitar ripped from him. It might be plausible that you could keep a jacket, but keep the guitar?? Of course you have to give it back. Fans have taken nice photos with it before handing it back - that's what you're supposed to do, not keep it.

After watching some clips of the show from my living room here in L.A. (thank god for the internet! AND THANK YOU TO THE FANS WHO HAVE POSTED THE CLIPS!  ) --
it looks like he was really full of energy, well rested. He was getting gradually more and more ragged as his W2A tour went on to Europe, then Canada. Then he had a few months rest from touring, and now the "Kiss" dance seems to be more extended and fresh, "When Doves Cry" is the full song, he's got snippets of TMBGITW (a song that's supposedly too hard for him to sing on tour), and he's laughing and looking really animated at the Sydney aftershow. I wish I could witness it all in person, but it's looking good from where I am. Thanks everyone!

I suspect that whoever loads up the teleprompter probably draws on a big database of lyrics to do so, and Purple Rain has that line in the original lyrics, so it goes in there too.

I think it would be weirder to have every other song in a show loaded up in a teleprompter except that one.
You might as well have it in there, if not to remember phrasing (which must be burned into his brain by now), but more to keep track of where he's up to if he's running on autopilot...
