sweet jesus that was intense eek my heart was racing all through the episode.

only thing that kept me from crying was imagining rick and negan f*cking. you
know, since negan dragged rick into the camper there was this voice inside me
that kept whispering 'ooh here it comes, this is gonna be hot' boxed

that's probably more sick than the episode itself. but hey, it got me through it lol

now i just need carol to get herself together and come barging in, kicking all

How in the hell did Negan blame Daryl for Glenn's death on talking dead falloff JDM is a trip lol

That funny note was brought up because it could be construed that if Daryl had not jumped up & hit Negan, then Negan wouldn't have reacted and killed Glenn as a punishment. They almost killed Daryl, but Negan liked something about him, and spared him. But Negan had to stick to his guns and his word, and because Daryl broke the rules of no talking or whatever, then Glenn suffered for it.

Child, it is the zombie apocalypse. These people aren't glamping. Shit's gonna happen, go down, and get fucked up. Eating a pregnant woman, or decapitating people isn't too graphic? It's been harsh since day one. Wait until Rick eventually kills Negan - that's gonna be bloody, too.

This time around, they crossed the line, it was far too explicit, it was too much for me. i can't believe that bastard killed Glenn, was a shock.

The fact is, it's a show that people are making up to get a reaction out of an audience and to make money. So the question is... do people still like it when it uses that kind of sadism as it's emotional core. Sadism to the audience. It's a choice to have someone suffer and then bring in the human romance and connection at the most brutal final moment, to create an intentional effect on the audience. But it is like S&M in concept. Now you wait for the release of revenge. But is it good or bad for people? I know Prince would not like it! Well, I'm going to catch up on another sadistic show... American Horror Story.

I can't help but think of
Prince with that show though.... you got Stevie Nicks, then Patti Labelle...

I'm feeling the loss in weird ways... Manic Monday was playing in their grocery store.

Too dark this episode...and too many axe fakes made it hard to watch....We better get a few relieving episodes now, or i'm done with the show.
They blew this one It was so gory the women in my household watching it walked away and had enough when they were bout to chop of the kids arm.
Took the show too far last night. One killing was enough but went over the top. Do not care for the reset so won't watch anymore. It was good while it lasted.
So glad I don't watch this show anymore. Faithful fan since the very first episode but no more.

I guess I'm not understanding how people are saying that this episode was extremely violent. I've seen much more violent and disturbing television and movies than what was featured in TWD.

come on we all knew this was coming... and there have been plenty of just as gross things in the show before.

(in the following the use of YOU is in general for people mad that the show is not for kids)

what is funny is how some silly parent group is all it a tizz over this! Huh.... if you do not know by now what the show is, if you ignored the full screen warning, if you ignored the rating box, if you were not monitoring what your kids watch, if you chose to NOT block that show, channel, or shows with the MA ratings... and your kid watched the show! That is YOUR FAULT!

To be fair, they're only being faithful to what was on the page of the original comic. I appreciate them being faithful to the source material in that respect. And the impact was needed to make this a true 'before and after' event for the show.

And Fox did give the "Warning - This show contains violent content that some viewers may find disturbing" ... but most people go "Yeah yeah, whatever" ... can't really then moan when the show turns out to contain violent content that some find disturbing lol

Great episode!

I've read every issue of the comic and been a fan of the show from the start and I rate this episode among the best.

As much as I'm a fan, I've never been to a TWD fansite or forum, so, looking to see what people are saying about it I made the mistake of checking the comments at A/V Club & IMDB. What a fking mistake that was...

Everybody I know who watches the show knows what they're in for and loves it. So, I was surprised to see almost universal negativity among the commenters at those two sites. So many people complaining about a death that happens almost exactly as it did in the source material. In my opinion the comics are so much better than the show and the closer they align, the better.

I'm thinking the commentors at AV/Club are all 15-25 year old hipsters that guage their "coolness" by how much they hate that which most love. Am I off-base here?

Wondering, is there anyone here that is "done with the show" because of this episode?
If so, have you read the source material?

I've gotta say, Negan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are the best thing about this show so far...

[Edited 10/24/16 7:46am]

You're not alone my friend. I've been following the comic and the show both since day one, and I loved the episode last night. JDM is the best addition to the show so far, he just lights up the screen whenever he speaks, amazing delivery of the script.

We made an evening of it last night (in the UK here), with my missus, my bro and my sis, and some friends. We rewatched the season six finale, then the new episode, then the Talking Dead special. We all agreed, the new episode was brilliant. Fun watching it with a group to, we were flinching all over the place and shouting at the TV! lol

You've hit the nail on the head re. alot of people jumping on the 'cool' bandwagon of bashing a show that alot of people love. Seems more 'hip' to be a Contrary Mary these days. I gave up trying to have any sort of constructive debate with people like that ages ago and avoid such websites. Their loss at the end of the day! biggrin

I've watched the entire series so far, and this was by far the most violent and disturbing event in the series (yes I know they matched the comics). But it also out does any Scorcese movie and most movies for me too (of course there is "Irreversible"... shudder... and also "Trouble Every Day".... double shudder)

The reason that it's more intense: The acting and filmmaking was top notch, and the roots of the scene go back to season 1 (the relationship between the two characters, the romance). I can't tell you how good I think the direction and acting was. It's tough faking that kind of intensity in that kind of contrived fictional situation.

So, I think what some people are wondering, is; what is the worth of this comic and show in terms of human culture... is it good entertainment or is it the modern equivalent of Roman collosseum spectacles of human suffering? Remember, at one time that was mainstream entertainment for the people!

At the end of the day, this is a horror show about people trying to survive in a post-zombie apocalypse. Not the kind of entertainment most people who are looking for "culture" go to. No?

That said, the show is much deeper than those labels I used and in my opinion does have something to offer in terms of the characters struggling with humanity, and how it applies it this world in which they inhabit. These kind of shocking moments set up the stakes for the characters and should be expected from the genre. They've had these moments before and they will again. Anybody who can't stand to see their favorite character brutally killed off shouldn't watch anyway.

actually 4 me, being a sci -fi fan

I think anytime we have humans together we have the possibility of culture

On the Walking Dead we've seen culture begin to form in its various 'Edenic' settings before the horrors of that world forced them out

1. the spot near the ravine and pond of water(where Rick found his wife and kid)

2. the CDC in Atlanta

3. the Farm(Hershels farm)

4. the Prison

5. Alexandria

we see culture and a way of life begin to form in these places
