My big beef with the Star Trek: Enterprise TV prequel series is that it started out promising and deteriorated over time. I thought it was pretty humdrum with monotonous characters, except for T'Pol--the female Vulcan--who was a strong and interesting character at the beginning but quickly became too humanlike and emotional. My least like Star Trek series.

Season 4 was the best season. Season 2 was horrible. Hoshi, Mayweather and Reed never had much to do. Show mostly focused on Archer, Tucker and T'pol.

I wonder if they tried to Americanize it too much, I mean the Federation is American enough, but I think to add that extra, exploring the new frontier American style-ness to it kind of jacked the universal spirit of it. Captain Archer seemed to be fashioned cowboy style, and everything that comes with that style doesn't lend itself to others taking center stage sometimes.

Well it is an American show, that's like saying Doctor Who is too British or the power rangers is to Japanese. Reed is from England, Hoshi is from Japan, Mayweather grew up off world, T'Pol and Phlox are aliens (and they showed alot of aliens like the Andorians, Telerites ,Xindi, and Suliban to name a few) so just two Americans with Archer and Tucker. It's American (Earthlings) at this point becacuse there is no Federation of Planets yet. The last episode showed them signing a union of 11 planets (I think 11, maybe 13). "Cowboy style" well that is how the original show was pitched to the network. It stil feels more like exploration.

Yes, it's American and it's been flavored in an American style since the beginning, I'm not knocking that. But it tried to be inclusive and sometimes tried to look at things from another perspective. I'm just speculating if they took the whole American spirit concept a bit too far, which kind of makes everybody else just a sidekick to the American dream model. Maybe I'm just picturing that opening theme too much it just screams American spirit.

I think Spock helped a lot in tempering TOS, he was different in his ideals yet heavily prominent, one had to view a decision from a different insight all the time watching the show. I think that's what made DS9 so enjoyable, you had that strong American front but you had a heavy amount of the Bajorans way, you had the Cardassians, the Ferengi, all the time, you were Americans in their world.

Well for Enterprise it was the Vulcans standing by and watching Earth set it's roots in outer space. Vulcan was the parent and Earth was the child, which drove Archer nuts. Well as you put it, Enterprise should be more "Americanized" since this takes place 80 years before Captain Kirk and I'm guessing 160 years before Deep Space 9.

I get your point. But I guess since we are starting to see more blending in scifi shows, like you see more asian influences, especially in American shows, certain things stand out more to me.

Maybe it is intentional.

I think that took me aback though the first go round.

I would say yes to that. At this time The Vulcans kinda looked down at humans, thinking they were not ready (and maybe they were right in some regards). I think T'pol did a good job in bridging the gap between Earth and Vulcan.

I wished the JJ Abrams Star Trek would have featured T'pol. She could have been an Ambassador who was a mentor Spock.

The long Xindi storyline burnt me out. lol It started feeling like a chore to watch.

How would they fit T'pol into the JJ universe. I know Vulcans live long but wouldn't she be really old even in JJs verse?

Well she is young in Enterprise and it is around 80's years before Captain Kirk era. She would be in her early hundreds and yes Vulcans do live long, so yes it's very possible for her to be alive during this time. Don't forget that Spock and his father Sarek were both on Star Trek the next generation which is also like 80 years after Captain Kirk. Now with that said Star Trek Discovery takes place 10 years before Captain Kirk so I hope T'pol shows up. They could even show a way much older Dr. Phlox.

Well you won't feel that way in season 4. In fact you might get mad because it finally gets good then they cancelled it.

Just got done watching the intro again. Well they wanted to show mans progress to reaching space travel. They open it with a shot of what looks like a Hawaiian vessel crossing the Pacific ocean, then a British HMS ship from the 1800's I guess. After that is almost all American. But let's be honest America did accomplished alot of air and space travel advancements including the first moon landing, first flight at Kityhawk, first flight across the Atlantic. I guess you could show more Russian since the Space race was between Russia and the US. Then they show alot of what NASA could be in the future. I mean what do you want to show??? I guess you could "make up" stuff that the Brazilians and Japanese did in 2067.

I could make a case, and I guess I'll make a itty bitty one ESA(european space agency), ISS(international space station)

Anyway...

They could have left it generic like all the others with a kind of universal inspiring classical music theme honestly. But the whole Cochrane warp drive ship tie-in is cool though.

'Star Trek: Discovery' Premiere Delayed by 5 Months, 'Good Wife' Creators Back for Spinoff
by Philiana Ng 3:47 PM PDT, September 14, 2016

You win some, you lose some.

Star Trek fans counting down the days to the premiere of the anticipated new series, Discovery, are going to have to wait even longer. Originally slated for a January launch on CBS and its digital streaming service, CBS All Access, the debut of the 13-episode series has been pushed to May.

The reasoning for the five-month premiere delay, according to CBS, was to give the creative team -- led by executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller -- “appropriate time” to deliver “the highest quality, premium edition” of the new Star Trek series.

“Before heading into production, we evaluated these realities with our partners at CBS and they agreed: Star Trek deserves the very best, and these extra few months will help us achieve a vision we can all be proud of,” Kurtzman and Fuller said in a joint statement.

Because of Discovery’s later premiere date, CBS has moved up the launch of The Good Wife spinoff, starring Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo, from May to February. Like Discovery, the spinoff will first air on CBS before continuing on CBS All Access.

Set one year after the events of The Good Wife finale, the spinoff also marks the return of creators Robert and Michelle King, who will serve as showrunners.

In August, Fuller revealed that Discovery would focus on a female protagonist, with the intent to cast a diverse actress to file the role. He hinted at the premise for the show, which has been shrouded in mystery.

“There’s an incident, an event in Star Trek history and in the history of Starfleet that had been talked about but had never really been explored,” Fuller teased.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

tumbleweed Star Trek is pretty PC as it is, don't over kill it on being PC. I like showing of the Space shuttle Enterprise and yeah the whole Cochrane warp drive ship tie-in is cool. Don't like the song, closing credit song is better.

Sounds more like that they shot stuff and are not happy with it. Maybe they might be re-casting actors because they are not happy of what they are seeing.

If Enterprise made it to Season 5

Season five

A computer generated image of a dark red spaceship.
The Kzinti Dark Stalker vessel as designed by Josh Finney for use in the fifth season

At the time of the cancellation, Coto had hoped for renewal and had already started to make plans for the fifth season. These included the expectation that the show would begin to cover the buildup to the Romulan War, as well as continue to link to The Original Series such as the cloud city of Stratos as seen in "The Cloud Minders".[106] Another feature that Coto planned was to have a "miniseries within a series" with four or five episodes devoted to following up on in events of the Mirror Universe episode "In a Mirror, Darkly". The producers had also intended to bring Jeffrey Combs onto the series as a regular by placing his recurring Andorian character Shran onto the bridge of the episode in an advisory capacity.[15]

Work had already begun on an episode referred to by Coto as "Kilkenny Cats", which would have seen the return of Larry Niven's Kzinti, usually seen in his Known Space novels, but had previously appeared in the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode "The Slaver Weapon".[107] At the same time that Enterprise was broadcast, writer Jimmy Diggs was pursuing the idea of a CGI animated film called Star Trek: Lions of the Night, in which Captain Hikaru Sulu would lead the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B) in attempting to prevent a Kzinti invasion of the Federation.[108] Coto's episode was based on a similar premise, with Diggs brought onto the Enterprise team to work on the episode.[109] Production had begun on the new Kzinti ships for "Kilkenny Cats", with Josh Finney commissioned.[110]

My math tells me it's 103 years between, TE and JJs verse, T'pol's like 66 maybe when the show ends, at 169, she'll be old, I'm guessing Spock was 150+ when they pulled him into the wrong timeline.

I remember hearing that Enterprise took place 80 years before the Original series. Wow yes you are right T'pol is alot older than I thought she was. T'pol was born in 2088 and served on Enterprise from 2151-2161 which would make her 63 years old when she joined the crew. Honestly I have a problem with that. Watching the show T'pol seemed very young and naive. She basicaly was placed on the Enterprise because all the other Vulcans didn't want that. Vulcans are supposed to be much more wise than humans. So for a Vulcan being in their 60's I would expect them to be well seasoned and not green, doesn't help when the actress is in her mid to late 20's. Regardless I don't think it is out of the realm that T'pol could still be alive during Captain Kirk days. We really don't know exactly how long a vulcan can live except they have a much longer life span than humans. Sarek (Spocks father) must be close to 200 when he was on Star Trek the next generation.

But the whole Cochrane warp drive ship tie-in is cool though.

tumbleweed Star Trek is pretty PC as it is, don't over kill it on being PC. I like showing of the Space shuttle Enterprise and yeah the whole Cochrane warp drive ship tie-in is cool. Don't like the song, closing credit song is better.

Not being PC, there are some uncommonly known truths to the whole US space race. We're good, very very good, but aren't motivated by exploration. And I'll leave it at that.

I guess with discovery coming out one better get brushed up on the enterprise universe because i'm sure there'll be all kinds of references that'll go right over my head.
