I saw the movie, and I'm a gemini so I was able to watch it as 2 person: 1 a Star Wars fan from the beginning-movies, comics, novels, toys etc 2 an interested movie goer who knows of Star Wars and chose to view it as a SW Alternative story

In general I enjoyed it. I'm taking a friend to see it so I must be ok with it to pay money again to watch it and pay for somone else.

My Issues With the Movie/Story in continuum of the Star Wars Universe(trying to keep my info derived from SW I II III IV V VI

1.) I liked Finn, but it was hard believing he was a storm trooper indoctrinated and instructed from very early youth, to be so comical and at times 'all over the place'. I felt some of the comical places with him were pushed just a little to much

2.) It was wonderful seeing Han Solo Chewbacca Leia C-3PO R2-D2 (and Luke) on screen again.

But the way the movie presented them seemed as if all the energy drive hope and excitement that we were left with by the end of SW Return of the Jedi, made it seem like they ^^^ did nothing afterward, or that they gave up, or explosion of Hope that we were left with did not really happen.

a.) Han Solo (and Chewbacca) I can see them still getting involved with some space runs and deals here and there. But to not have the Falcon and not be connected to these people who literally became family...? 30yrs later

b.) Leia, the daughter of one of the greatest Jedi Knights w/just as much Force Energy, the daughter of royalty and two of the most influential Republic Senators (by blood and by adoption) To NOT take up the way of Jedi training and NOT be a Jedi Knight(Master) by now and just running a 'Resistance ie Rebels' group(<- this will be discussed further down) and even though a General, I would think she would have a more higher rank by then -Admiral maybe 30yrs later

c.) C-3P0, I would expect to still be connected to Leia, not much to say about him

d.) R2-D2, I can sorta understand the shut down because his 'master' disappeared. But I really cannot understand after so many years of Luke(leaving) that R2-D2 would just shut down. Not the HERO that R2-D2 always was. When his other 'master' Anakin stopped communicating with him in SW Revenge of the Sith, R2 kept on connecting with C-3PO and others he was connected to

e.) Luke, the son of one of the greatest Jedi Knights w/just as much Force Energy, the son of royalty and one of the most influential Republic Senators (by blood) To NOT press and overcome in rebuilding the path of Jedi (Pass On What You Have Learned) and just give up and go into seclusion because his nephew turned Dark and kill the few students he had. For that LIGHT and Spark to go out, to leave his sister and friends to deal with the world on their own. The Farm boy looking for adventure... 30yrs later

3.) the Nazi imagery was to close. And using the blonde admiral ...

4.) Why is there a RESISTANCE when they are the REPUBLIC? The Republic would have it's military fleet that would deal with 'the First Order'. Why is the REPUBLIC:General Leia etc behaving as REBELS running from a group that is technically not in Power. Why wouldn't the REPUBLIC military just take out that space/planet station? Again, as if nothing happened since SW VI

5.) Too repetitive of the original story, just this time a much BIGGER space station that is able to destroy 6 planets/moons at 1 time. If the Empire with all their resources and power could not do that how is this offshoot group able to?

6.) a. With all we know of Leia I cannot see her (in that moment) saying to Han 'Bring our son home' 'You can save him' most likely having some knowledge of Jedi (Dark/Light side of the Force) what happened to her father etc

b. With all we know of Han I cannot see him risking the mission and those under his guard by reaching out to his son like that

7.) Han is killed by his son Kylo Ren, outside of Chewie roaring and shooting the Son, he completed the mission. But Hans horrific death is not even acknowledged. When they return, it made no sense that Leia reaches out to this girl, that as far as we know, they don't know each other. Their would be a much more implactful emotional scene if she and Chewbacca reached out to each other. That is where the connection would be. Maybe it will be acknowledged in the next movie, but you almost forget Han died by the end of this one.

8.) Rey can just fly the Falcon. Rey can just reconnect with the Force or her training and woop this guy Kylo Ren, who has been actively using the Force... I did like watching the fight scene, but still, really?

9.) I generally favour droids so I loved BB-8 no issues there

10.) a. I like the scenes of Kylo Ren using the Force to extract info from the minds of a few people, and the unknown force resistance of Rey.
He showed no realy use of using the Force to 'leap' 'jump' etc

b. Unless he was just toying with him, there is no way Finn should have been able to get a second against Kylo Ren.

11.) I enjoyed the character Maz Kanata

12.) What was the name of the Planet(s)/Moons destroyed?

13.) I still say it was a good movie, but it moved to fast, jumping from concept and story to quickly, and it had too many holes in it. Too many things that most fans would expect or want to see not happen.

14.) None of the planet actually had the magical mystery feel to them, like in the previous movies. They all looked like anyplace on Earth.

agreed, but in the Original Trilogy this was also the case: ice, desert, swamp, forrest with big trees, whatever

it's just the prequels which had alls those awful CGI crap landscapes. you can keep those

Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

Maz’s Flags

Boba Fett’s Mandelorian flag is featured in the scene where they arrive at Maz Kanata’s castle. Most of the other flags and symbols are from the prequels. You can even see the flag of the 501st Legion.

You're not a real Gemini....we revoked your pass ages ago, no no no!

1. In Clone Wars, Storm Troopers were characterized a lot like regular GIs including the banter so Fin's wisecracks were not unusual to me.

2. Time constraints and the introduction of multiple new characters made it unlikely we would get much in the way of catching up with the old characters.

A. As far as I could tell the story suggests that Han returned to his pirating career and Chewy only after he and Leia split. If Chewy sold the Falcon for salvage and went home, Han wouldn't necessarily know where it was until he hooked up with Chewy again.

B. Many, many, many force sensitive individuals never undergo jedi training. Leia and Luke were raised in different environments and remember they were initially being hidden from Vader and the empire. The droids and Luke actually found each other by accident.

C. Yep.

D. It's not that R2 wasn't still connected. He was hiding his master's whereabouts and I'm speculating that R2's re-activation was triggered by the presence of the one who is presumably Luke's heir?

E. Hell, after what he went through with his own father I guess he got fed up. I'm sure he didn't see it coming and those murders must have troubled him greatly not to mention shaken his confidence in his training abilities?

3. Yeah, the Nazi crap was way too transparent and corny. Too Disney-esque, I dare say.

4. I don't recall the Republic having a standing army before they had to end up fighting the empire either. They were in the process of trying to build one in Clone Wars IIRC. Correct me if I'm wrong somebody.

5. Agreed....lame and lazy.

6 a and b. It's called being parents. lol

7. Leia is force sensitive although not a practicing Jedi, so she senses the force. Besides I'm assuming that she already had reports of what happened with Rey and Kylo. She could also be privy to Rey being her niece? I knew Han was toast the minute he stepped onto that bridge. I thought his death scene and the aftermath were okay though.

8. The way Rey is portrayed is very reminiscent of Luke though. She was very technically and mechanically proficient before flying the falcon. She was skilled in combat as well. Basically the only thing that changed was her weapon. Remember, Kylo was severely injured when they fought.

9. The droid was way too corny....they may as well have named it Lassie. disbelief More disney stuff.

10. Jedi, Sith, etc. still have individual skills they are better at besides being adept with the force in general. Fin is a trained fighter but would have been no match for a uninjured Kylo. Same as Rey.

11. Look too much like ET. lol

12. Not a clue.

13. I binged watched Clone Wars and read Wookiepedia last year plus my sons and their friends are die hard SW geeks so they keep me somewhat informed of the EU. cool

I firmly believe that the Falcon was placed with Rey as a future get away vehicle either when Luke showed up or Leia or Han. There is no other way that Han or Chewy would sell it or lose it. Plus you had Han telling Finn and Rey they needed a "clean" ship if they wanted to go undetected, so I think the Falcon was bugged and showed up on Han's radar when it went into space.

yeah they say something about how they picked it up on their scanners... but it seems she did go into hyperspace and was pulled out some how by Han. (as he seemed suprised it was at Jaku). I would have been just as easy to have it go into hyeprspace on its own and then the leak and then it comes out and they get caught and Han says "it was programed to find me when it was in space"

I think Chewy knew where it was and told Han when they hooked back up after he split from Leia. What was Chewy gonna do with it after Han went all domestic on him with a wife and kids? There was no one else for Chewy to trust as a partner. lol

Maybe he just pawned it but I dont think it was left there with Rey either. Rey was scavenging for that trader who was giving her food and she stole the Falcon from him so she and Fin could escape with the droid.

I thought the Boba Fett backstory in the prequels was the best part of the prequels.

Clone Wars had some cool Mandalorian arcs.

Boba Fett was badass ... I like the idea that he gets out of the sarlaac pit. I hope he shows up in the ep 8.

Rey's Beauty is breathtaking..They tried to "dirty" her up but that Chick is just Beautiful....I like that she's tough...The only reason I believe the Fight scene with Cousin Ben was believable is becuz she was trained to fight with a Staff...Towards the climax of the Flick her Powers grew as she became "aware"...So the final Fight scene was believable....I like Bruh Finn and Ben could feel the "Force' within Finn during the very first scene on that Planet...Finn was battling Light Vs Dark and he was leaning toward the Light and Ben could feel that...I do not think Finn & Rey will be a Love connection..JJ Abrams tried hard not to have them Kiss or anything...Finn will be connected to Luke in some way or he'll be connected to Ben....I read a while back that Harrison Ford said he wanted Hans DEAD a long time ago, so I should not have been surprised when Evil Ben killed him....My only COMPLAINT is that Giant Ghost looking Sith or whatever it was looked like a Giant Spiegel from lord of The Rings..I kept waiting for that Giant thing to say "My Precious"......JJ Abrams did a great job rekindling the Magic and the movie is so Good that you gotta see it TWICE...

I think Rey looks better all "dirtied up"...
I thought that too about Snoke looking like Gollum but I suppose it's the same actor doing the motion capture so they're bound to look alike. I do kind of wish they had just a live actor rather than a cgi thing but maybe it doesnt matter. I still loved the movie regardless.

Luke, the son of one of the greatest Jedi Knights w/just as much Force Energy, the son of royalty and one of the most influential Republic Senators (by blood) To NOT press and overcome in rebuilding the path of Jedi (Pass On What You Have Learned) and just give up and go into seclusion because his nephew turned Dark and kill the few students he had.

11. Look too much like ET. lol

12. Not a clue.

13. I binged watched Clone Wars and read Wookiepedia last year plus my sons and their friends are die hard SW geeks so they keep me somewhat informed of the EU. cool

When & Who? the Gemini council...

<img src=" />

1. Well remember the Clones soldiers are clones of Jango Fett, so they would have his sense of humor, but in general reading a lot about the Empires Storm troopers... I'm just saying his 'extra' humor is hard to believe.

2. I'm not saying they needed to focus on the original characters more. But where they are seems like they didn't do much with their lives after SW Return of the Jedi, and far cry from the now (non canon) literature. And Lando Calrissian will be in the next one.

b. Yes I know many don't take up Jedi training. But that is generally because of circumstances. Whether they learn how to use the force on their own, become darkside users, taken under the wig of a Force(dark or light) user or the Sith. In the previous SW canon Leia begins training, her skills as a warrior using a light saber are very apparent. Using the force to read energies from individuals or in space etc, and Luke shared a lot of info of his training and Jedi history, she was involved in researching things with/for him. She becoming the 2nd to Mon Mothma and then taking her place, put a hold on her completing her training. She later completed her training become a full Jedi Knight.

Yes they were both hidden, but it was always known between Yoda & Obiwan that they would train them to be a weapon against the Emperor and Darth Vader. In the extended universe, there was a Jedi Knight that Obiwan encountered that he sent to Leia's home planet to watch over her and when the time was right train her.

d. R2-D2 was also hiding the information about who Darth Vader, who Luke & Leia's mother was, that they even existed, that Anakin (basically) killed his wife etc He kept on trucking...

e. can't buy it, it just doesn't work with the optimistic character of the farm boy turned Jedi Knight. I could understand him going away a bit to reevaluate what happened. But the knowledge that one of his students who is also his nephew (of his sister that he never knew of prior to SW VI) I can't see him just leaving the galaxy to that... and obviously he know of the dark sider who influenced him because Han & Leia know of him as 1st hand knowledge.

3. " Too Disney-esque, I dare say" I agree

4. originally the Old Republic had an army, after they and the Jedi Order established peace, the military was no longer needed. It wasn't until the return of the Sith (and what they did creating a war) that of course the Clone Army was used. So the Republic technically had a full blown military(but they were always under the control of Darth Sidious)
But when the Rebels overthrew the Empire, they had a HUGE military fleet at hand. And knowing from history what is out there (there were other Empire War Lords out there still) that there is no doubt keeping a military is key and needful.

6. Yeah, but they aren't regular parents. Their son was already turned to the dark side, they could have gone after him anytime. But during a very important mission, where this superweapon was turned against them down to the second death. "Bring Our Son Home" and Han risking the mission at that moment didn't make sense. Remember this is the Senator who while on the death star, would not give up the location of the Rebel Base even while facing her home planet/family destruction.

7. According to the movie, Leia had no acknowledgement of any connection to Rey. And it would still make more sense for her and Chewbacca to embrace and acknowledge Hans death.

8. A laser shot like that I believe would generally kill someone. But he has the Force to draw on, which is why he was so easily able to pursue Rey. Generally Rey's response with the Force would be a draw on the dark side. Hopefully they will explain what happened in her 'Awakening' to the Force. The use of a light saber without skill could get the person using it wounded.

10. Finn would not be a match for an injured force user. Remember he was injured in the station and then left there and pursued Finn and Rey. Rey who seemed to hold a lightersaber like a Jedi would have only lasted that long if Kylo was toying with him.

11. Well there is an ET species in Star Wars

* I'm taking a friend to see it this week, so I'll find more thing wrong with it or try to make sense of things <img src=" />

Something occoured to me!

So they "land" on Starkiller base and in one of the deleted bits (I am not sure if it is in the book or not) Kylo Ren and some storm troopers board the falcon... and look around and then just leave?

Seems he would order it captured or leave a trap or blow it up... and then... do they have keys?

I'll have to check it out, but I thought I saw those scenes
There seems to be a lot of 'rushed' scenes that are not fully followed through

This film is bad in the sense that it is hardly a film at all. It has no structure, no dialogue, no screenplay, a threadbare story, but one that is not told because of non-existent direction, etc. It continues where the original left off, and just notches off plot elements one by one without any urge to tell a story, or develop characters, relationships, etc. The makers probably conceived this as a filler between numbers one and three and didn't bother with it. Of course, that's all right. I don't have any problem with that. But what really does disturb me is the high praise meted out to this "film" from almost every quarter – from viewers and critics alike. On this board it's being rated as the 17th best movie of all time. I've consulted quite a few film guides, and they all tag maximum, or near maximum, stars to this film. Even more bizarrely, they consider it to be the best of the series, and in my mind it's clearly the worst. What is going on? Of course, it's not difficult to see why this film is idolized. The first film was both good and a milestone. Not great, but it was the perfect statement for an age. It was a fairy tale that was confused as science fiction. The "Force" embodied morality, even religion, for the space age. It is set in the distant past and therefore pertains to origins rather than where technology is going. Spaceships and laser guns are just the backdrop, and have nothing to do with the story or the subject matter. When this film appeared in the middle of the crisis-ridden seventies, it really must have been a beacon of "new hope". And to put the ground-breaking special effects into its proper context, they symbolized optimism. There is no doubt that the effects served the story well, but they served even better the mood of the age. And with all this going, Star Wars rightly became a tremendous hit, and the focus of fanatic devotion. It was to be expected that any sequel would have been gobbled up by the fan base, as long as it didn't spoil the original. Empire doesn't spoil the original. It not only continues the war between good and evil, it does so with more spectacle, more aplomb, more special effects. When people say they like Empire, what I think they really mean is that thy like Star Wars so much that they are thrilled that it has a new and glossy wrapping. Because Empire is nothing but embellishment. They're not judging the film itself. The ideal situation would have been if Star Wars remained as a standalone fairy tale. Fairy tales end, and they leave us with the aura of "happily ever after". They don't go on and on and become sagas, and if they did that would totally destroy the aura. Empire is the first mistaken step towards saga, and that is why it quickly finds itself out of its depth. There is nothing else to be told, and that's why the film is so bad. One boring battle joined to another boring battle, and in between we have cardboard characters mouthing atrocious dialogue that serves no purpose whatsoever. The strain tells. Everybody is straining to do something when there is nothing to do. The third film, The Return of the Jedi, redeems itself by trying to finish a story. The prequels are interesting because they are filling in the background. But Empire is caught in no man's land. It is bad, and it should be exposed as such. All this pretending isn't healthy, I don't think.

I agree with some things you said. SW Force Awakens just copied SW A New Hope to many degrees

But SW Empire Strikes Back is the best film out of all of them. Mystery, secrets, Bespin/Cloud City, you get to see the SW universe in a bigger way. The characters are developed better, the connect etc I can watch that one over and over and over

he didn't say jack shit. those are again not his words, but just a copy&paste from someone else at IMDB

he's fucking troll, he copies (even contradicting!) stuff from other sites into almost every thread he posts on, be it about movies, politics or sex. just check some of his recent posts and runsome of his drivel through google, it will immediately pop up at some other site

I'd say this is agaisnt the rules, no?
just copying ad verbatim without giving own insight or even a source...?
