Very similar to the "is/was Prince bisexual?" question.

Your opinion will most likely depend on your own views of marijuana.

Yeah, always a lot of projecting going on in these type of threads...

^^ Yes, you are both right.. this is the clever answer to the question raised.. "projection".. wink

I really don't understand those who "downplay and justify" the use of drugs,

I am raised to refrain from drugs:

Even "mild drugs" cannabis / marijuana are slowing your brain down, they can lead to harder drugs, can lead to psychoses, and of course they can cause lung cancer.

But

I guess we will never agree on these, those here who are smoking weed (whatever) will defend, and those who think drugs will lead to addiction and bad behaviour, health issues will be more critical, and avoid.

Personally I would never want my kids (in case I had some) use any drugs.

Imho nothing good comes out of drugs-use. That is what I believe in. (Amen)...

Likewise, I don't understand why people like you have to vilify people who do take drugs. You have bought in to all the scare stories and propaganda surrounding drugs and wilfully regurgitate things that are not correct. Cannabis does not cause cancer - in fact, there are many studies that show it is an effective treatment for it (and other conditions besides, like MS). There is a risk of psychosis, but that tends to be with people who are mentally susceptible anyway. And "slowing your brain down"! What does that even mean?

Most of the best music and art is created by people who have taken drugs - from Shakespeare to the Beatles and many of the modern pop artists who have are still around to tell the tale and don't seem at all affected by their past drug use (Macartney, Richards, Clapton) - so your assertion that nothing good comes from drug use is also patently wrong. You choose not to - that's fine and is entirely your choice. But it also means that you have no experience or reference point from which to comment and you just make yourself loom somewhat silly propogating all the untruths that surround drugs, largely due to government's determined demonisation of them.

BTW, the UN is about to release a report recommending that all governments cease their pointless "war on drugs", as the victimising and criminalise of users is far more harmful and dangerous than the drugs themselves.

As I said, I respect your choice not to take them (though, I'll bet you take caffeine and alcohol which are, of course, powerful psychoactive drugs), but I would ask for the same respect over my choices in return.

We can go even further: Dreams and visions experienced in a state of trance are at the very beginning of human culture. The very earliest forms of art, the rock paintings in the caves of Lascaux and Altamira and similar paintings in South Africa were most likely inspired by the visions one sees while in trance. Shamanism, which basically is travelling between the "real" world and the spirit world, is the oldest religion and the oldest culture in the world. And this altered state of mind is often and easiest reached through the use of psychothropic plants. Mankind has been doing it since the dawn of time. Read Graham Hancocks book Supernatural if you want to know about this. It was a real eye opener for me. Open your heart, open your mind...

To Mindflux:

A lot of people ends their life sadly as drug addicts, familys are split up, some addicts ends their life without a job, without family in the streets, homeless etc.... in my family my uncle died in his 50's because his liver failed, or maybe it was his kidneys I don't exactly remember. He was a black sheep in our family and he was a drugs addict when he was young living in Copenhagen the capitol of Denmark, he later moved to the north jytland, to come away from drugs and bad company, the bad surroundings. When he was younger, he sometimes arrived at my moms house asking for money to his drugs, he was a sad case. I wasn't that close with him but I was at the hospital back when he was dying. And I was at his funeral back around 15 years ago.

But never mind him, like I said I wasn't that close to him, I remember him from my early life as a kid - he was a really nice guy back then, but we later grew apart. However. The real reason why I dislike drugs is education in school and because I was brought up with strong parrents who told me to keep off doing drugs, told me about the dark side of drugs so to speak. You just can't deny that a lot of people ends their lives in unhappyness, becoming drugs addicts. That's a fact you guys can't deny.

I prefer living without smoking or taking any other drugs. And to be honest I think people are too "careless" if they really wanna make their life into a drug- experiment, drugs just ain't the right path to go down, imho. Drugs leads to no good, still this is my philosophy, it's my experience.

If you wanna dope your brain with drugs, go ahead - but hopefully you are aware that its' not healthy in any way.

Because of the context and style of the paintings (geometric patterns and abstract images), as well as the fact that similarities occur between other ancient tribes that never met. It is hypothesised that the common denominator to produce such similar concepts involves the use of magic mushrooms to induce the shared imagery, as well as trance-like rituals. The paintings at Lascaux are 18000 year-old and could not have been communicated to the other tribes.

Thanks for answering the question. (It was getting late, bedtime for me.) South African professor David Lewis Williams did a lot of research on this. He compared rock art in South Africa with descriptions of San rituals and found a lot of similarities. Graham Hancock decided to take it one step further by exploring medicinal plants himself which resulted in the book I mentioned. Which in turn inspired me to do the same.
So while I totally agree with thedance that drugs (especially stuff like heroine or crack) can ruin your life, that doesn't have to mean every mind altering substance is bad for you. You just have to know what you're getting into.

Kind of surprised there are so many hardcore conservative Prince fans. Are these Jehova's Witnesses he's brought into his music or something?

Which drugs though? To talk about marijuana in the same light as heroin or oxycontin is ridiculous and something hardcore conservatives usually do. If you vape it's literally doing no harm to your body. According to the US government marijuana has even been proven to kill cancer cells http://www.cancer.gov/abo.../#link/_13

Whatever you put in your body is your choice, but when you make these wide sweeping generalizations based on incorrect information you just come across sounding like a misinformed old fuddy duddy.

^ I feel I am repeating things in this thread. wink

To those who are being "romantic" about drugs addiction, ok go ahead and do drugs all you want to.

Imo, you are taking a dangerous risk, marijuana are making you dizzy, cocaine drains your body..... right?

I know I don't want any drugs- experiments at all, and in case I had kids I would not want to see them as drugs addicts neither...

I don't think I have other things to add, really... different opinions, and imho "drugs spells danger", it's unhealthy for you, imho that is.. wink

You're repeating yourself because you don't know what you're talking about and keep saying things that are wrong.

As I said before, more people die horse - riding than from taking ecstacy! So is it really that much of a dangerous risk? Should we ban horse - riding? More people die from eating peanuts too - shall we ban peanuts?! 20 times more people die from drinking alcohol than ALL ILLEGAL DRUGS PUT TOGETHER! Shall we ban alcohol?

Furthermore, you consider anyone who takes drugs an "addict" - yet another misguided opinion. There is a huge difference between addiction and recreational use. I don't do drugs every day, not even every week - I can take it or leave it. That is not addiction. In the same way, not everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic - they are two very different things. Do you drink? Do you consider yourself an alcoholic?

You are totally misinformed, prejudiced and don't respect freedom of choice - THAT is why you are being branded a conservative. And the irony is you live in Holland, one of the most liberal countries in the world!

I'm from Holland (thedance is Danish) and years of right wing governments have surely made the country less liberal in its drug policy. This discussion was interesting, but I think everybody is starting to repeat themselves. I'll just sum up my own view and leave it at that: drugs should be treated with caution. It can be a very rewarding experience.

No, but to tell others what drugs they can and can't do is beyond conservative. It's fascistic.

I'm not saying you personally are doing this by the way. But, attitudes like yours help to keep the drug war running. One look at prison statistics in the US will illustrate that this policy is not working.

I didn't say thedance is Dutch, but he/she does live in Holland.

Agreed, recent governments have tried to tighten things up (I'm English, been visiting Holland for 25 years, both recreationally and have played dozens of gigs there), but it's still far more liberal than many other countries are. And thank goodness for that!
