Acting YOUR AGE.

"You don't act your age," I'm told.... often.

I'm told I don't look my age either. This has always been true. But part of it I think is

that I 'forget' to act my age, whatever that is supposed to mean.

I'm really just a grown man-boy, and often revert to a childlike view of things when

I should be looking and behaving like an adult.

But I don't really know what is my age.

I mean, I just discovered there is actually a bar that plays 80s neo-Industrial

music here in BANGKOK friggen Thailand, and now I want to check it out.

..but I'm 40.... sooooooo, perhaps that's not a good idea. Most of my friends

are in their early 30s, but even that can be 'old' in certain settings.

I'm not self-concious about it to the point that I wouldn't go. But, I really don't

have any intention of hanging out in places that are meant for the young.

When is it ok to not act 'your age', and when is it not ok? Do you have a line?

Heck if I know. shrug

I hear a lot that I neither look nor act my age. I used to take that as a compliment, but now -- especially in a professional setting -- I'm coming to think of it as a liability. I wonder sometimes if I'm not taken as seriously as those who present "older."

Doesn't much bother me in the social arena. I simply have no friends regardless of what age they think I act relative to them. confused

i always get told that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i often think ppl dont get me confused

but i have learnt to ignore them because i hate not being relaxed and feeling like i have 2 behave a certain way, just to fit in....

the thing with being like this is that even tho i sometimes feel like a loner or often feel out of place it does not bother me and i am ok with that side of it.

so i just carry on being the crazy nut i am, and i found that as soon as ppl warm up 2 me it doesnt take long 4 them 2 start showing their fun side when they r with me

& this is my line......................i dont care if ppl think i'm weird ~ just as long as i am happy cool

I'm 44 but when it comes to age, there's no such thing as "acting your age". When it comes to clubbing, I don't do that anymore, not because I'm older, but because I'm too young for the clubs these days. All that slow to midtempo music these days in these clubs these days that these kids listen to, hell, that's senior citizen tempoed music, not for someone middle aged like me. I can't help it if a lot of the younger generation went backwards in time to Lawrence Welk tempoed music instead of moving forward. evillol And then there's that trance shit that's actually too fast to dance to. They don't shake ass anymore, they hop around like rabbits on speed. lol

Then there's the "act your age" thing when it comes to having fun, being raunchy, and talking shit. I love old foul mouthed, shit talking whores like Millie Jackson and Denise LaSalle. Hell, even Betty White is a cool old 90 year old dame who can still get nasty when she wants. And Little Richard's crazy old ass. I love folks like that! Hell, I'm gay, single, with no children, and I don't have nobody to "set an example" for so why should I hold back? The station wagon, dog, and white picket fence is fine if that's what someone likes but the world is full of people with variety and it would be boring as hell if everyone lived the same lifestyle. I'm scriptgirl's wild "Uncle Teddy" and in the words of Fred Sanford...."I'll be a dirty old man until I'm a dead old man". lol

Andy is a four letter word.

I don't look my age.

And no I don't always act it either lol , although sometimes I do and sometimes even older. I really don't think that deeply into it though, I just am what I am and act however I feel in that moment. How other people perceive it or how they think I should be is of no real interest to me.

28 here, always mistaken for being in my late teens or early to mid 20's. I used to get offended years ago, but I love it now. It really depends who I'm with when I act a certain way. I can be very child-like one minute, and dead serious the next.

Your students invited me out dancing with them. When I said I was too old they emphatically tried to tell me I wasn’t. When I told them my age they all got kind of quiet and let it drop. neutral

lol

I think most people think I’m younger than I am by how I look and act but not in a bad “Young Adult” kind of way, more in a I’m-not-the-suburban-american-soccer-mom kind of way. I’m single, I live in the city, I don’t have kids, I travel a lot, I don’t own a car, etc. I’m not living in arrested development, I just don’t have the typical life of a 36-year-old. I still go to concerts/shows but I don’t go out dancing every Saturday night. (Only a few times a year now, and at age-appropriate venues.)

I don’t know. I don’t worry about it too much. Also, when you’re woman, being seen as younger is almost always better.
