Far too many parents have lost complete control over their chilldren because they won't spank their children. I have seen it first hand how parents become enablers to their childrens off behavior only to become tired, angry, frustrated and depressed at how their child has turned out.

If you instill solid values and they then decide that value system means nothing to them, then they should be punished accordingly.

I agree that "lashing out" is not a good first start in dealing with an unruly child but lets not pretent like the outside world isn't competing with you to bring your child up properly. This girl was stealing and I'm sure her father the judge did not teach her to do that. I've seen kids who grew up in the same home and one got the belt while the other didn't yet the non-spanked kid turned out to be the bad child.

Just saying there is no 100% perfect way to bring up a child and spanking does not have to be a bad thing. Not all parents who spank do so in the same manner that this Judge did.

True, there is. But, when you really think about it, most parents were babies themselves when they had their children, so most don't have a clue. Also, in this day and age, most kids don't give two shits, about a "time out" or having something taken away from them. This man obviously got tired of talking to his daughter and did what he thought was best. Had it really been abuse, he would have used a closed hand and hit her all about her face... That is abuse. well imo, corporal punishment upon a child should be used at the very last resort. talking and taking away privledges is as effective as hitting, and less taxing on all parties involved.

in the video, i feel it is really a case of child abuse. when both parents gang up to punish it's demeaning and traumatic to the child.

also when the father left the room, the punishment should have been over. no excuse for coming back into the room. imo he (the father) and she (the mother) should both be held accountable in the courts for domestic violence and child abuse. nothing less.

i really felt sorry for the girl, whether the whole thing is staged or not! how would anyone know if she did not record this incident on video. many times people do not believe such accountings from the victim, or they do not want to get involved.
