i love weeding, it's quite thereputic lol i've got an allotment & grow lots of stuff.

i get my bloke to do all the sweaty dirty jobs, i get the plants going, watering is a joint effort & a huge chore but it's worth it in the end.

this year we are growing a lot of peas & broad beans as they freeze very well.

i have some artichokes that come up every year so they're easy

we've just put potatoes in, sewn some carrots, parsnips, beetroot, onions, leeks & garlic.

tomorrow i'm sewing runner beans, courgettes & sunflowers!

our fruit plants are more established now, so hoping 4 plenty this year.. smoothies & jam, yum.

strawberries, gooseberries & raspberries. even generations old rhubarb crown from my husbands side of the family.. planted trees last year which i hope will give us plums & cherries

got a greenhouse to sort out soon 4 my cucumbers, melons, chillies. i've bought 'special' cucumbers.. they're sausage size.

last year i did one chilli plant & had 100's from it, i made sweet chilli sauce & the melons have to be suspended in bras

then in my garden i grow salad, radish, herbs & sweetpeas heart tomatoes in hanging baskets

busy busy..

it's very rewarding, much easier than i thought, saves money! always tastes better & it's great to give away!

i'll try get some pics sometime

You don't have a garden, you have a farm! lol You're so lucky to be able to have the space to grow all of those lovely plants. I just wish...

biggrin u don't need much space to grow stuff!..

i guess the allotment 'plot' measures about 40ft x 20ft & we pay £30 a year. our greenhouse is TINY! i'm talking 8ft square.. lol in uk we do everything on much smaller scale

in the last couple of years growing your own has really taken off & the allotments are in demand. They were always something associated with old men & retirement!

loads of younger people in2 it at the moment cuz it's easy & saves ££

i will try & get some pics once it's looking a bit tidier & everything is (hopefully) growing..

there are radishes & mizuna on my window sill..

Oh, your seedlings are loverly!

I haven't started planing yet except for my "exotic" seeds. wink I put them in last Sunday and hopefully I will be able to save this crop from thieves this year.

I would love to start a "community" garden in my neighborhood, but there are so many kids and teenagers who would have free access to the garden that I don't trust them to be respectful and leave the crops alone. I can see it now--some smartass kid would deliberately destroy something and I would be ready for blood. I don't need the aggravation. hmph!

Just found a cabbage worm on my kale. mad

I really want to try and keep everything organic so I won't jump the gun to pesticides on one worm.

A few leaves on the brussels, kale and one tomato plant have holes but everything else seems to be going ok. whew

I use 100% natural ( usually homemade ) sprays with essential oils ( and never use chemical fertilizers - I use natural ones )

look up Neem oil

you can also plant sister herbs near veggie plants as some of their scents naturally repel bugs

example

Tomatoes and Basil ...

Look up garlic sprays as a pesticide as well ~ really there are several different things that help and wont harm because they themselves are edible

peace!

All you have to do is make a solution of dishwashing detergent with a little sugar added and spray it on your plants.

thanks & yeah i understand the problem with kids.. they get bored & think it's fun to trash stuff (little shits)

it would be heartbreaking to put effort in to see it damaged. over here the allotments are fenced & padlocked but still get the occasional raid

but with regards to community space... lol a little while back there was a local incident where a mystery person was digging up roadside grass verge, they had a serious crop going on!.. strawberries, tomatoes, leeks!!

of course the authorities got all arsey about it.. one day the mystery gardener was seen tending the plot dressed as a tree!!.. funny stuff

anyway good luck with your exotic plants!

don't waste time & money on pest sprays & stuff!! in my experience nothing helps except daily squashing.

find the eggs & squash.. get the caterpillers & squash them too. it's a tedious job & probably why i don't grow cabbagy stuff anymore, it's so much effort & can put u off wanting to eat it
