Potted plants here die... except for my huchera that I gave to Stillgotit. They are in her garden now, they got too big for my window box. I may do dwarf cannas in that box with the begonias and some ornamental small grasses.

I can't wait!

My current apartment has a small balcony with southwester exposure. Last year I had basil, dill, parsely, and some flowers. It was SO hot last summer that the only thing that did well was the basil. But when I brought it inside over the winter it died. sad I do have some other smaller basil that I kept inside all summer, but it's looking a little leggy.

This summer I am going to try rosemary, basil, cilantro (again), oregano, and some sort of flowers. I guess I should figure it out soon so I can get the seeds.

Good luck with the cilantro, and please post if you have success. Last year I tried to grow cilantro at least 4 times - both indoors and out - and had no sucess. It seems very finnicky and also seems to have a short growing season. I was trying to grow from seeds. This spring I am going to cheat and buy seedlings from the greenhouse.

Martha Stewart show cased these bad boys on her show... I immediately went online and pre-ordered mine last fall.... I was put on a damn waiting list. disbelief

I hope the fiber-optic grass really looks like this IRL, I will keep them for years since its a perennial, unless it look like plain crappy grass. lol

I've been vegatable gardening for about 3 years now. Can't wait till the new season starts here in Jersey.

My yard is not fenced in, so i get a lot of stray racoons and skunks around. I've circumvented that by growing my veggies in self-watering pots sitting atop a picnic table. Along with my penchant for mulching and composting, it's a lot of fun.

Please keep us updated and post pics! biggrin

Yes, I'm in New York City. I don't know if it was something I did/didn't do or just the nature of cilantro. After the first seedlings died I bought new seeds (different brand). I started some inside and some out. But they just didn't take. They had really weak stems and never got full. That, combined with the heat, was too much I guess; even though I made sure they were watered properly. That's why I'm trying "pre-grown" this spring.

Some of the people on this thread look like hard cores professionals! I don't use fertilizer or mulch or anything. I just wanted some fresh herbs to cook with. I wish our balcony was a bit bigger, I'd love to try a tomato plant but I think I need to succeed with the herbs first! I should be better - I grew up on a farm and my grandparents kept a garden at our house, with sweet corn, string beans, strawberries, watermelon, cateloupe, pumpkins, tomatoes, and peas. It's definitely harder when you only have pots and not much free time.

You guys don't understand... I have only one person IRL to "garden talk" with.

Everyone else I know gets like zzz when I start yapping.

I can't wait til growing season is in full swing for us all.
