They're screening all the oscar nominated shorts in theaters in some cities, I'm going to see them this week here in Ann Arbor. Both live and animated.

The documentary shorts are being screened here in New York as well. The others I catch every year, but this is the first time I've seen the documentaries in theaters too.

Documentary (Feature)

  • “Exit through the Gift Shop” Banksy and Jaimie D'Cruz

I hope Banksy wins! Just to see if he would turn up and not be anonymous anymore...

I'm a huge Banksy fan.

If he did win, it would be funny if he sent some actor in disguise to accept the award pretending to be him. Then if he gets arrested and unmasked, everyone will be like, "it's not Banksy, it's Colin Farrell!" (or someone like that) lol

I made the mistake of having two glasses of wine before I turned on Inception, and eventually I really had to just let it go and turn it off. Only interesting thing I got out of it was that the following week I kept having dreams inside of dreams hrmph

Aww guys really??? Come on! pout

How can you say it was a mess? What didn't you get? It's a great plot, really well thought out and really strong performances too. Hugely ambitious for a director of Nolan's stature too. How many big name director's take such a risk on a Hollywood big budget movie these days? Even if you couldn't cope with the concept, surely you gotta respect the originality and style? In my opinion it's a far superior movie to most of the chaff on that list!

I completely agree!!!!

I agree. Not nominating Gosling is a crime.

I'm just being contrary. Every so often, there's a book or film that comes along that everyone's all excited about and I go bored just on GP.

For example, I've never seen ET. lol

I would pick on you for that, but I've never seen The Wizard of Oz. So there! razz

I think I just died.

It's what you make it.

Fair point sir, my comment wasn't meant to condescend you on your life's work! After 2 glasses of shiraz, my attention span is also a little weakened. smile To be honest, my response was merely a light retort not solely directed to you, but more to the general interesting consensus that felt the film was cluttered, or messy. Personally, i liked it for various reasons including how it so cleverly worked in it's structure and i didn't find it messy at all. But yes, i can totally see how the film is not everybody's cup of tea (or glass of vino).

1. it's not my life's work, just a mere interest cool

2. i'm a chick, not a dude...and i'm fit mad

3. there are definitely some nights where i'm up and raring to go for a special effects blockbuster (with a Hans Zimmer underscore blasting in my ears), but the night i chose inception just wasn't the night...cluttered and messy may not necessarily be a bad thing, but i can tell that the next time i try to tackle that movie i will have to be really attentive, really in the mood for it, and it will be sans vino...and at least i can avoid falling asleep-straight into a dream within a dream. neutral

I really liked it. Suspension of disbelief is of course a prereq, especially if you have pre-formed ideas due to your studies regarding dreams.

We rented it and watched it at night, then woke up and watched it again in the morning to catch everything that we missed.

thumbs up!

It's what you make it.

It's probably been said, but what sense does it make to even put 2 other movies against Toy Story 3 for Best Animated Film, when it is nominated for best Picture? If they were better, wouldn't they have a Best Picture nomination?

shrug

There are numerous excellent films that won't get nominated for best picture for one reason or another. Great animated movies get recognition in the Best Animated Film category that would otherwise go unnoticed like Howl's Moving Castle, Persepolis, The Triplets of Belleville, The Secret of Kells, etc.
