Or Stage Coach? Or The Quiet Man? (My two favorite John Wayne pictures.)

hmmm I truly liked Stage Coach and Wayne's performance but the occasional wacky acting of the secondary actors was distressing confused

oh and The Quiet Man!! I forgot that one! One of the best films of the Wayne/Ford combo nod cool It's been ages since I watched it though...

my fav John Ford movie is still The Grapes of Wrath touched

Oh, yeah. Nobody played wackadoodle characters like Thomas Mitchell. ("Wackadoodle" is a technical acting term, you realize. geek )

My favorite John Ford is How Green Was My Valley. I never get tired of that one. touched

How can you say it was a mess? What didn't you get? It's a great plot, really well thought out and really strong performances too. Hugely ambitious for a director of Nolan's stature too. How many big name director's take such a risk on a Hollywood big budget movie these days? Even if you couldn't cope with the concept, surely you gotta respect the originality and style? In my opinion it's a far superior movie to most of the chaff on that list!

Umm, I have spent nearly 20 years as a devotee to Carl Jung, studying his work on how dreams and other entrees to the subconscious are related to the thought process of the human psyche, so frankly it's not about not getting it or if I can "cope with the concept" of Inception . It simply bored me and couldn't hold my attention after two glasses of Shiraz. There are going to be days when every movie is simply not for everybody. martini

Fair point sir, my comment wasn't meant to condescend you on your life's work! After 2 glasses of shiraz, my attention span is also a little weakened. smile To be honest, my response was merely a light retort not solely directed to you, but more to the general interesting consensus that felt the film was cluttered, or messy. Personally, i liked it for various reasons including how it so cleverly worked in it's structure and i didn't find it messy at all. But yes, i can totally see how the film is not everybody's cup of tea (or glass of vino).

I don't know, I'm kinda feeling Annette's anal retentive type A personality angry lesbian haircut wearing head of household in "The Kids..." I'm watching "Winter's Bones" right now and I don't know if it's because I overate at lunch, but it's making me sleepy. The barn scene's kinda good, though hmmm

I thought Annette was excellent, don't get me wrong, I just don't think it compares to the other two. But I'm afraid she's reaching that whole "awww...it's about time we give her something" point. I hope that doesn't give her the edge. sigh

okay, I'll go ahead and admit I'm in that club. Oh dear, i'm not doing very well here... sorry ma'am! i have no idea why, but for some reason i assumed your name was male. Anyway, please accept my sincerest apologies for the offence.

Congrats on being fit, but you lose points for being aware of it! wink

To be sans vino is to be incomplete. Might i suggest you attempt the movie next time with an 'associé de film'? His (or her) role in alleviating the boredom would be to pour the vino and ensure you don't fall asleep by offering foot massages or similar counter-acting stimulants. In fact i know of a really nice guy who's seen the movie enough times now...

I won't give away any spoilers (although I think the movie promotion itself gives everything away), but I will say that the movie is exceptionally well acted. Michelle Williams is really amazing, and I don't say that lightly. So is Ryan Gosling.

Looks like I'm gonna have to wait for Netflix. It's not playing near me. Is this limited release? pout

Unless I sneak out to Fairfax during the week. hmmm

I'm sure it's in DC but I'm about 15 minutes further out now than I was before, which is not a big deal, but if I have theaters around here I rather not have to deal with parking and such. If I'm gonna bother with all of that I rather be doing theatre or museums.

Same here. I see almost every film in the cinema solo now. Can't be bothered anymore with waiting around for a friend to have some free time or one that is interested in seeing the same films as me.

Yeah, it definitely seems to be his time. I'm glad. He's a solid actor who does good work. I think Jeff Bridges is amazing too, but since he just won, I think Oscar voters will want to spread the love around a little bit.

I watched the nominated live action short films last night:

The Confession - Worried about having nothing to confess for their first confession, two boys create mischief.

The Crush - Schoolboy with a crush on his teacher challenges her fiancé to a duel--to the death.

God Of Love - Lounge singer uses magic love darts to make his drummer fall in love with him.

Na Wewe - Hutu rebels in the country of Burundi stop a minibus to determine if any passengers are Tutsi rivals.

Wish 143 - Terminal cancer patient wants his last wish to be sex with a woman.

All were good. God Of Love was the goofiest. The Confession was the most tragic. I think I liked Wish 143 the most. It was funny, heartwarming and fulfilling. But that was the worst reviewed of the five on IMDB. lol Too sentimental and obvious perhaps?

I just watched Inception. It is pretty ridiculous, and I kept thinking it looked like a bunch of kids playing make believe, not the most powerful men in the world vying for ultimate control.

But it was very good for a big budget Hollywood movie. They did not wimp out on the story in favor of a big car chase at the end. The movie was totally unbelievable, but the plot was tight and the acting was good, and it looked great.

I have long liked Nolan, and he continues to deliver very engaging and interesting movies. As I'm sure this movie was designed, I lok forward to watching it again!

I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of unexpected installation happens at the Oscars.

I just finished watching Exit. It was interesting, but I got the impression Bansky's pissed with Mr. Brainwash because he became so successful so quickly. Is it jealousy? I think Banksy's a better artist.
