When I read the thread title I wondered to myself: "How long before someone mentions 'A Serbian Film'"? Anybody who thinks that movie is suitable Halloween fare deserves what they get.

It's allegorical and metaphorical. If you think it's a horror film, more fool you.

ok eek , curiously, there will be one 28 years old pregnant girl at the party... eek

I would just check with her ahead of time. This kind of thing doesn't bother some people but it completely wigs others out.

Basket Case goes down as one of the b-movie legends..it's not really sick and twisted..more so a campy classic 80's black comedy horror film with some great moments!

My vote goes to the sickest, maddening movie I have seen all year: I watched "A Serbian Film" last week for my scary movie watch..and .. omg Ill never ever watch this film AGAIN disbelief

Sick, sick, sick, twisted movie..I dont recommend anyone to watch it....but happy I have seen it to test my limits.

After watching Anti-Christ and Martyrs, I am SUPER intrigued to watch this!! But Martyrs fucked me up...Dammit!!

I already put this film in my Netflix "saved". boxed

Serbian Film is fucked up. Like, some people should not see this movie. You need to know before you press play that there is some shit in this movie that will never leave you. Not ever. If you're cool with that, have at it. But this is me talkin', and I'm tellin' ya this movie is FUCKED. UP. lol It's one of those movies where you should absolutely believe ALL the hype and consider very carefully whether or not you want it to be part of the rest of your life.

but is it a good movie? is it worth watching? is it really that bad? is it gorey or more the idea of what's going on that's bad? did you enjoy watching it?

i'm wondering if the people who have saw it and warn against it were used to seeing such content, used to seeing really gorey movies, or if perhaps they just weren't used to that stuff and don't have a strong stomach and open mind. i mean some people threw up or ran out of the cinema during movies like saw and hostel 2. some people said blair witch was incredibly scarey and likewise some over movies that i thought were utter shit and not scarey in the slightest. some people said human caterpillar was fucked up, but they never actually saw the movie, which isn't that bad at all, hostel 2 is much more gorey. some people puked after watching 1 girl 2 cup and said that was fucked up

i mean it's just a movie, a story, actors, special effects etc, what makes that movie far worse than anything else?

so you are drawing a conclusion about a movie that you've never actually seen, and have no desire to see?

reading reviews of the movie on imdb etc, it actually gets some pretty good reviews. it says it's disturbing, but well shot, edited, etc

antichrist was disturbing, but i've never had a nightmare from watching a movie, i've seen a lot of bad shit and have far bigger things to worry about than a movie. in fact if it did take something away from the other worries in life then that's a good thing. i wonder if that's why people enjoy watching horror movies?

Is it disturbing more on subject matter or gore?

Are the scenes worst than the face-crushing in Irreversible?

As long as I know it's actors I'm fine with being disturbed. What I don't want in my brain forever is shit like the Chechen video (which I continue to refuse to watch however morbidly curious I might be).

A few quick responses to what people have said/asked...

**SPOILER FREE** If you want to know what takes place, go read the Wiki. But out of respect to those who are going to watch it I'm not going to explain anything in detail here.

John, real life is always much worse. I totally agree with you on that. But there are things in this movie that I never expected to see, ever! Not in a movie, and certainly not real life.

Unique, it's quite easy to draw conclusions regarding whether or not you'd WANT to see something like this WITHOUT actually seeing it. That's exactly the point I made in my first post. Some people should not see this movie. Because once you've seen something you can never UN-see it. Me personally, I don't need to ACTUALLY WATCH anything having to do with Two Girls One Cup to KNOW, without a single fucking doubt, that I have ZERO desire to see that mess. I know what it's about and that is NOT my thing.

In general, yes, it's a movie. But movies are supposed to allow you to suspend your disbelief. Plus, this is not a cheesy b-movie. The production value and acting is actually pretty good. And as you'll read all over the internet, it has a few characters that you'll like (or WANT to like), which makes what happens ever harder to watch. But the stuff that ends up going down IS foul. It's shock cinema, in the same general universe with Salo, Martyr, Audition & Anti Christ. But this is a MUCH different beast due to some of the subject matter. Having seen it, I just think it's worth putting out there that all the hype is real. All the "this may be the most disturbing movie I've ever seen" quotes are honest.

Read the reviews on NetFlix, which basically say the same thing over and over: Watch at your own risk.

"'Serbian Film', makes 'The Human Centipede', look like a Disney film." is pretty damn accurate, though. lol

Side note, but back on topic: I would NEVER, EVER, under ANY circumstances consider this an "invite some friends over and watch some gross horror movies around Halloween" kind of flick. It's doesn't inhabit that world at all. My favorite movie for that purpose is Xtro. biggrin That birth scene still gives me the willies. lol

My best friend used to be in the army. About 8 years ago, she sent me an e-mail with a video attached to it. I'm thinking it's a video of her showing around the base and what not. I download the video, and it's this.

There's many websites dedicated to hosting videos beatings, torture and executions from around the world. It's one of the few things I've found on the internet that made me genuinely upset. THAT'S why I say people really need to be SURE they know what their kids are looking at online. Because porn is NOT the worst thing they could be watching.

I watched 'a serbian film' last night. This definitely isn't a horror and i certainly wouldn't recommend it. It's a very weak film with a few 'shocking' moments thown in to justify it's existence. it would sink without trace if it wasn't for these moments.

Few redeeming features - except that the editing is quite good, and the actors do well with the weak material they're given.

It's like the producers have gone out of their way to be as shocking as possible, but with little suspense or originality it doesnt work. it's just weak. it's like an extreme version of a saw film (torture porn), but with lots of sex thrown in. and the nasty ending doesn't even 'shock' because it's so fuckin obvious. By all means see it, but be aware that it's 2 hours of your life that you won't get back.

"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

i was going to list some recommendations of horror films, the obvious ones 'The Exorcist', 'The Shining', 'Psycho', 'Texas Chainshaw' etc, but you guys have probably all seen them.

So how about 'The Mist'? This was largely slept on when it first came out , i only saw it very recently, but it's really good fun - and then ending stays with you. Highly recommended biggrin

so are you saying it's not that shocking after all? not as visually gory or horrible than saw/hostel? and it's more the psychological effect of what people are thinking when watching it?

are the certain parts that people mention shown in graphic and gory detail or not? sometimes it's when things are too graphic and gory they don't look real and lose impact, whereas tarantino used things where you don't actually see something happening to greater effect (ie. you don't see the ear removed in res dogs, you don't see the head shot in the car in pulp fiction)

Damn, i really enjoyed 'The Mist'. Ok the script isn't great, the acting is a little wooden, and the effects are tv budget, but that ending.. very rare for a film to have a hollywood film to have a bleak ending like that. infact, the ending makes the film biggrin
