They essentially created a whole new continuity with this movie, via the alternate universe. What's going on in the new Trek is not what's said to have happen prior to the original series ever before. We've really got two of everything now. were there green ladies in the original?

There were, but as far as I know they only ever appear as dancing slave girls in the original series. I supposed having one as a cadet in this movie could be seen as an attempt by the filmmakers to balance that sexually iffy portrayal out a bit. Though I don't think it was ever established originally if Kirk actually hooked up with a green lady or not though. Guess Greenie Chick's appearance in this flick was a way of clarifying. Ya'll should check this out
It's a comic book "prequel" to the flick and expands Nero & Spock's backstory. ...While involving some "Next Generation" characters too. • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

Saw it again last night.
I can say with confidence I think it's the best of the Star Trek movies, and the actors are better too. They should have titled the movie, "Star Trek: The Wrath of Lens Flare"

They should have titled the movie, "Star Trek: The Wrath of Lens Flare" I'm probably going to it again tomorrow. This is definitely a repeat-viewer. I know I'm so wrong for this. I had the same issue watching The Dark Knight. I really, really want to see Spock beat the crap out of Kirk again. I thought it was kinda hot. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

The one that does the initial talking? I want him to have my babies. One of the things that impresses me about this movie, is that J.J. Abrams threw in enough elements to keep the movie "trekkie", but gave it a healthy does of Indiana Jones to expand the viewing audience. A smart move for the franchise, and a slick, fun, summer flick that is worth repeat viewings. Can't wait to see if there will be an Abrams sequel. [Edited 5/16/09 13:00pm]

Can't wait to see if there will be an Abram I have no idea who that was, but he filled up the screen with some pretty. I agree, the movie was well done. Trek enough to keep nerds like me happy, but action-y enough to please those who came just because it's the big summer movie. And the whole alternate universe plot was a slick move on Abrams' part, leaving plenty o' room for sequels if it does well enough, without having to worry about the original continuity. Careful, or I'll send Spock to bitchslap you into the console. I'm well aware action-y isn't a word. But it's okay to break the rules if you know how to do it right and choose not to. That's exactly what I was saying a couple of pages back. It really got me how the father died as the son was being born. And my son is still laughing at me because I was not satisfied till they finally played the right Trek music and Spock said the "space" speech. If they hadn't thrown in some trekkie moments there would have been hell to pay and they know it. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
